- Reviewed in the United States on December 10, 2018I wanted a good mono headset that was comfortable and didn't make my ears feel bruised after ~8 hours of use 5 days a week. I also wanted a headset that wasn't immersive and stereo meaning covering both ears as my line of business is technical support and I would rather just hear mono audio through 1 ear. This helps peoples bad attitudes not rub off on me or affect my performance.
The mute button does flash red if muted *no matter what circumstance* and the call button goes green when on a call with certain software, in my testing Microsoft Teams which is kind of like Skype.
The microphone quality is fantastic with a very natural and crisp sound. The noise cancellation is questionable though because I could hear my dog barking 2 rooms away through 2 closed doorways on a QuickTime test recording. I suppose if the software you're using also allows or has a codec that does software noise cancellation you'd be safe but with my job we can't have dogs/kids or basically anything that isn't expected to be heard in a real "office" environment.
The headset is very light, the earpiece is extremely soft and unlike anything I've ever experienced as far as "on ear" headphones go. It's VERY comfortable. Most "on ear" are that crappy leather material that eventually leaves your ear lobes feeling bruised and tired after 8 hours. Not these. Very cool material, pun intended and very very soft and adaptable to your ears (left or right).
Sennheiser you hit the nail on the head here. IF you could make the microphone a bit better noise cancelling that would be good but honestly anything more would probably compromise the beautiful quality of the microphone on this headset, so forget it. :)
Totally worth $35 and the reviews where people say the cable lasted 1 year with heavy daily use still seems extremely reasonable at the price point. If I get 1 year or more out of this headset I'll order another. Fantastic.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2014I got my first SC30 about a year ago. Has been working flawlessly (until now). I have used many other brands and types but this is one of the absolute best one-ear-headsets. Sound is great both to hear and being heard (great noise cancellation). I use it every day with Skype, GoToMeeting and WebEx (both with Win 7 and Win 8.1 - no extra software need to be installed, just plug it in). The sound control box (CTRL) works well for muting and adjusting the volume when on calls. The headset is comfortable to wear all day.
Only one product enhancement wish, a better quality of the connecting cable. After a year of (intensive) use the connecting cable is cracked at several places so bad that the inner wires are exposed at several places and since recently the microphone have stopped working intermittently (due to the cable issue). I therefore need to buy another SC30 now but I will still buy the same model as everything else is good with this headset. I am giving it 4 stars (with a better cable it would have been 5 stars) but since this is the only issue with the SC30 I will probably buy a now one again when the one I am getting now breaks down in a year or so.
In summary, if you use a headset frequently and need excellent sound and noise cancellation and still want a headset that is comfortable to wear all day, and are OK buying a new one once a year, then this is the headset for you! (I highly recommend it!)
- Reviewed in the United States on April 22, 2022I purchased this for work. I only rarely need to be on conference calls, and needed something that had the ability to mute the microphone from the headset. It sounds great, and people seem to be able to hear me well.
I recently noticed that the cable is starting to break, though. While I've had the headset for about 3 years, it's been sitting in my cubicle at work and I've spent a lot of the past two years working from home due to covid.
So while the audio quality seems great, the build quality is not so good.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 17, 2014I've been using mono headsets like the SC30 now for years. When gaming, I don't like to wear a headset because I still want to be able to hear things/people around me. I like to listen to music/my game through my stereo system, rather than a headset like most. I only have voice (from Skype/Ventrilo/TeamSpeak) coming through my headset, no music or game sounds. That all goes thru my stereo. Because of this, I've preferred (over the years) to use mono headsets.
In my experience, line-in headsets always have issues. The signal is analog, meaning you can have distortion or a host of other annoying issues with them, over time. To avoid that, I needed a USB (digital) solution. In the past, I've used the "Logitech Vantage USB Headset" which was the right solution (and really... *only*) for me. The problem with that headset was, it would fail. The wire inside of the cable or where the volume adjust was, would eventually fail - almost like clockwork, after 6 months. I've bought Vantage headsets now for nearly 10 years, and every 6 to 8 months, the same thing would happen. Every time. No matter how careful I was to not run over it with my chair, or yank on the cable - they would still fail.
In comes the Sennheiser SC30 CTRL. Same type of headset, BETTER solution. Build quality is a huge thing for me, and dealing with headsets that fail every 6 months is no longer something I want to deal with. The SC30 delivers. I've been kinda (not on purpose) rough with the SC30 - yet it still holds strong. The build quality is excellent thus far.
The SC30 has a nice cable cover near where the cable enters the headset itself. Most of the failures with my Vantage headsets occurred right at that point, since my head is bobbing around and moving all day long. The wiring on the inside would eventually fray and tear from wear. The SC30 has a huge cable cover thingy (I have no idea what to call it) that helps stabilize the cable and prevent it from twisting or bending too much at that point. This greatly helps increase the life of the product, and made my life way better.
The only downside of the SC30 is: no drivers! Sennheiser's website does NOT have drivers for the SC30. I was under the assumption I could plug-n-play with this device, but Windows was unable to find and install drivers for it. I actually was lucky enough to know how to search for the proper solution on Google.
This may have been an isolated incident, so don't let it get you down too much. I just really wish Sennheiser would make drivers for the SC30 headset. That would have saved me a lot of time trying to figure out how to get this thing to work.
Overall though, I love the SC30. Totally would recommend it to other weird people like myself who don't like wearing a headset.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Headset / Not Necessarily Work From Home Quality
It seems to be a great headset for light use. It has a foam ear cover that is not very comfortable (may be worth buying a different ear cover). It is lightweight and would be great for skype etc. As far as work from home it doesn't seem like it would last or be flexible enough or comfortable enough to wear for several hours per day. Other than that it is a nice headset.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gran cancelación de ruido.

5.0 out of 5 stars Una diadema obligada para todo trabajador remoto
Pros:
- Calidad de audio incomparable
- Realmente plug and play
