The Case Western Reserve University Police Department was founded with the goal of providing professional police and security services to the campus community, specifically tailored to meet the diverse demands of the student, faculty, staff, and visitor constituencies. Protection of the members of the campus community and the University’s physical assets is the fundamental objective of our department.
CWRU Shield Smartphone App
As part of ongoing efforts to enhance campus safety, Case Western Reserve’s Police and Security Services Department launched CWRU Shield, a free smartphone application that allows users to:
- report emergencies to the nearest authorities based on the user's location;
- set “safety checks” to alert emergency contacts if they do not respond to the app’s timed reminders; and
- create “iReports” to send campus police photos and/or videos of crimes or potentially dangerous situations.

Mission Statement:
Through vigorous patrol by the highly trained staff, deploying state of the art technology and a variety of crime prevention services, we hope to reduce criminal opportunity in the campus area and protect the physical assets of the University while reducing the threat of physical harm and emotional distress to members of the community and the public who visit the campus.
