Product Description
In the summer of 2015, legendary musician David Byrne staged an arena concert event in Brooklyn, New York, to celebrate the crativity of high school color guard: synchronized dance routines involving flags, rifles, and sabers, colloguially known as "the sport of the arts." Bryne invited performers Lucius, Nico Muhly & Ira Glass, Nelly Furtado, St. Vincent, Devonte Hynes, and many more to join him in creating original compositions to accompany ten color guard teams' performances. The result is CONTEMPORARY COLOR, a bold and irrespressible snapshot of a one-of-a-kind live experience.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 25, 2020Color guards aren't exactly my cup of tea but I put it on mostly because I'm a fan of David Byrne and figured it would probably be interesting. Like his recent American Utopia tour/Broadway show, this is a wonderfully uplifting spectacle. It's hard not to smile and be impressed by the talent of the folks performing. If you're looking for an actual documentary of color guards you're probably going to be deeply disappointed in this but for everyone else it's well worth watching. I especially enjoyed the segment with Ira Glass where he interviews the students and their commentary is synced to the performance.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 27, 2017Well, my color guard is one of the fuard featured so I do love it. After being with the film crew throughout the season this is a different view then we're use to. Very interesting perspective, the editing and filming is fantastic I thought and I'm proud and so so happy my kids were a part of this experience.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 20, 2017Everything about this film is beautiful to the tiniest little detail. A brilliant concept and an even lovelier execution.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 21, 2017ZOOM. OUT. St.Vincent did it right.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2020If you're going into this wanting to see a straightforward presentatino of the big performance at the Barclays Center and the community around color guard, you're going to be disappointed. It's a much more impressionistic dip into what's going on not just onstage but also in the audience, in the dressing rooms, in the hallways, in the staging areas. There are jumps to rehearsals and to individuals doing snippets of their act in unexpected places. If you're unfamiliar with color guard in non-marching-band contexts, you may be shocked to find out it exists, and even wonder once or twice if the whole movie is an elaborate, thoroughly brilliant put-on. (Christopher Guest could never.) The musical performers are kind of a mixed bag, but TuNe-YaRdS is completely electrifying. Ultimately, you get an unmistakable sense that the kids at the show's heart are dedicated to their art form and having the time of their lives on a singular night.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2017I’m in this movie and I love it!!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 16, 2017As a mom with 2 girls in indoor color guard, and as a spectator who has seen all the featured guards perform live, I was very disappointed by this "documentary."
I was expecting to watch the rigors of indoor guard training; how dance, flags, rifles & sabres were used to connect with the audience and how the music was tied into the guards' choreography.
Instead, I saw very little about Guard but I sure did see the featured musicians, including David Byrne, "accompany" the guards as they performed.
By watching the snippet of Mechanics-burg's show, titled Every 40 Seconds did you realize it was about how frequently someone is abducted in the US? There is no way you could have, and that's the viewer's loss.
All those guards are World Class. It's a shame the viewer could not enjoy their performances.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2019I have no idea what video these positive reviewers watched but it certainly was not this one. I am frustrated I have to give this even one star.
We were interested in this because we wanted to see a documentary about colorguard. I was in it years ago, and now my daughter is.
Also, we are familiar with some of the guards featured. However, it appeared to us that the color guard features were an afterthought! When the guards were actually shown, the camera work was laughable! A two year old could've done better camera work! There's lots of close ups when they actually do show the color guard so you can hardly see the flagwork ,saber, rifle.
The bulk of the filming is on the bands, weird backstage fillers, and various other strangely patched together random nonsense. If the focus was supposed to be on Color Guard then the whole production had ADHD or something.

2.0 out of 5 stars Il problema è il codice regionale DVD
