Khoi, a naive twenty-year-old, travels to Ho Chi Minh City from the countryside to begin a new life. It's his first time in the big city and he's looking for a place to live. He befriends Dong, a handsome extrovert who offers to share his apartment. When Khoi goes to check the place out, he meets Lam, who also appears to be living there. Khoi decides to stay, but while he showers, Dong and Lam - who turn out to be boyfriends - run off with all his cash and belongings. It's not long before Lam is himself abandoned by Dong, and winds up back on the street as a prostitute. Meanwhile the penniless and disillusioned Khoi takes on menial jobs to survive. Lam and Khoi are eventually reunited, and despite Lam's past actions, the two become closer and closer - even though Khoi becomes more and more troubled by Lam's dangerous source of income. At the same time, Cuoi, a mentally handicapped man abandoned by his family, attempts to befriend a female prostitute. Her pimps do not take kindly to his hanging around and scaring away customers, but she takes pity on him and ultimately becomes his protector.

The story is about a young man named Bao Nam, living in a rich family, so he has a coxcomb personality. Because of being lazy, dissolute and snobbish, Bao Nam keeps turning his parents down. He did four times university failure, gradually being a playboy. Nam usually comes up with some plans to cheat on his parents and get them really angry, expelled him from the house. Nam has a severe mental shock, got through street sleeping, no money, so he relies on a girl who sells old books on the streets. That girl is Truc, a beautiful and strong 18 years old girl. She doesn't have parents, Truc has to live in an abandoned house which is waited to be destroyed, she is an illiterate but she loves books. In a moment Nam was in troubles, Truc saved Nam and she taught him a lot of meaningful things. When Nam was kicked out of the house, Truc took him to her house and they live together. But Nam's mother has a special affection for Truc, and she doesn't want Nam and Truc to be in love to avoid troubles which will happen in the future. Nam's father has a lot of trouble at first as well because he was misunderstood by Truc, when he was too concerned about Nam, but was afraid to be caught by him.

Linh, an art student, moves to a new house where she encounters a ghost. She helps him to uncover the mysterious cause of his death realizing what is important in her life.
