- Civilization has been laid waste by a general amnesia. The keenies lead a peaceful life, devoted to their patients. #166, a very young keenie, is about to start their first assignment at Xirst. #8, one of their superiors, gives them a tour around the premises while explaining the operative of the center and their role in it: To watch over a lost case of a patient who never got to remember anything at all. #166 submerges themselves in the depths of the building and remains locked up with their patient. Out of profound observation, and disregarding the rules, they start to empathize with the woman. And suddenly a tight friendship is born. An unlikely relationship given that they both belong to different species, and that they don't speak the same language. Intuiting that the old lady is being held up against her will, #166 decides to put an end to her treatment, risking their very own life.
