Suffered a heart attack, Tuesday, April 19, 2005, while undergoing a health 'check-up' test at Medica Sur hospital, in Mexico City.
She was Pedro Infante's most frequent leading lady. They made six films together.
Her parents were Spanish and hailed from the municipalities of Coín and Churreana in Málaga, Spain.
Of Spanish parentage, she was born and raised in Argentina but became a star and lived most of her life in Mexico.
Third actress, after María Félix and Dolores Del Río, to win two Ariel Awards for Best Actress (1950, 1955). She also received nominations on five other occasions (1952, 1953, 1954, 1956, and 1958), making her a seven-time nominee (she was the most nominated leading actress of the classic era of Mexican cinema). She was also nominated for Best Supporting Actress in 1947 and won in the same category in 1948, making her a nine-time nominee and three-time winner overall. In 1993, she won a special Golden Ariel Award for lifetime achievement.

In 1955, I became a Mexican citizen. I've been a Mexican for 40 years. I am Mexican, I feel it in my heart, and I am an artist from Mexico. I am known as a Mexican in Argentina and, blessed be God, here too.
I believe that, of the 82 films I've made, 50% are very good films that are still there today, with very good quality, with very good stories. La tercera palabra (1956) is a sensational film, one of the best ever made.
Only twice have I played a bad woman: in Hasta el viento tiene miedo (1968) and La mujer sin lágrimas (1951), where I made Libertad Lamarque suffer.
We sang, danced, recited. My siblings played instruments: bandoneon, violin, drums. We came to Mexico in 1938. We had an incredible success, and we stayed here for two years. At age 14, I met and fell in love with Mr. Amador, who was 16. In 1941, he went to Argentina to look for me and we were married. I returned to Mexico in 1942 and stayed here. We had our two children and three years later we divorced. It was then when I began to work on stage, with Anita and Isabelita Blanch, in very small roles. I also worked in stage revues, but they were very family-oriented ones at the Follies, at the Lírico, singing and dancing. It occurred to me to visit Mr. Grovas to see if I photographed well to make movies. He gave me an opportunity in El hijo desobediente (1945) with Tin Tan in 1945. They liked it and they finally gave me a leading role in Las colegialas (1946) with María Elena Marqués and then I played the leading lady in Mamá Inés (1946). Then, I was already under contract for three years.
