Universal and Blumhouse have announced a sequel to the 2022 horror film, “The Black Phone,” set for June 27, 2025. The companies say “The Black Phone 2” is the “launch of a sinister new franchise.”

The original movie starred Ethan Hawke, as a child abductor and murderer called the Grabber, and Mason Thames, a 13-year-old boy named Finney who crosses the killer’s path. The Grabber locks Finney in a soundproof basement, where nobody can hear him or come to his rescue. The only item is the basement is a disconnected telephone that begins ringing. When Finney answers it, he realizes he’s able to communicate with the spirits of the Grabber’s deceased victims. The kids’ ghosts teach Finney how to survive and fight back, and he’s able to escape the Grabber’s clutches in the end.

Will the Pogues ever catch a break?

Our favorite characters were happily lost at the end of Outer Banks Season 2.

They were ready to live out the rest of their days in a corner of the world, well away from everyone else.

But this is TV, and there has to be drama.

Netflix unveiled a wild first look at Outer Banks Season 3 on Thursday, and we think it's fair to say this will be the most dramatic season yet.

One of the most significant moments showcases John B with his presumed-dead dad, Big John.

That will be a huge moment, for sure, but in true Outer Banks fashion, there are far more pressing things on the agenda.

We also see the Pogues in the city of El Dorado, but what takes them there?

The trailer doesn't give that much away, but we have to assume treasure will be the driving force here.

Evoking a similar vibe to stories and shows such as Stephen King's It and Stranger Things, The Black Phone combines childhood nostalgia with bloody horror for a truly spine-tingling tale. The Black Phone cast is full of recognizable faces, some old and some new.

Based on the short story of the same title from author Joe Hill, The Black Phone is set in a small, suburban Colorado town in 1978. The serial killer known as "The Grabber" has already claimed the lives of five victims, and when 13-year-old Finney Shaw awakes in a soundproof basement after being abducted, he quickly realizes he has become victim number six.

With A Jazzman’s Blues, Tyler Perry proves himself to be, more than anything, a reliable auteur of serviceable melodramas. The film, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and will stream on Netflix on September 23, is an exercise in tropes and caricatures, a game of “spot the cliché.” Nearly all the usual suspects of Black and Biblical stereotypes make an appearance here: the tragic mulatto, the mammy, the magical negro, Cain and his brother Abel. Ethan Hawke reteams with Sinister director Scott Derrickson (Doctor Strange) for this ’70s-set serial killer thriller with a supernatural twist or two. Despite some flaws, it’s an enjoyable slice of retro-set horror.

The film opens in North Denver, 1978, where 13 year-old Finney (Mason Thames) is repeatedly bullied, despite having some proficiency on the baseball field. With no mother and an alcoholic, frequently abusive father (Jeremy Davies), Finn’s only support comes from his precocious younger sister Gwen (Madeleine McGraw), who’s prone to dropping colourful f-bombs.

However, their lives are upended when a local, mask-wearing serial killer known as The Grabber (Hawke) kidnaps Finn and locks him up in a basement. Gwen finds herself having strange dreams that might give a clue to her brother’s whereabouts,...

Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for Scott Derrickson’s “The Black Phone,” set to hit theaters on February 4.

Starring Ethan Hawke, the film follows an abducted boy locked in a basement stained with the blood of half a dozen other murdered children. In the cellar with him is a black, antique telephone with a disconnected cord. However, the phone rings at night with calls from the dead children, helping the boy plot his escape.

In the trailer, Hawke first appears in white face paint and a top hat, struggling with falling grocery bags beside a completely unsuspicious beat-up black van. Universal Pictures unveiled a packed trailer for its upcoming Blumhouse horror thriller “The Black Phone” on Wednesday, during a presentation to the annual convention of movie theater owners in Las Vegas.

Reuniting Ethan Hawke with his “Sinister” writer-director Scott Derrickson, the project is adapted from a short story by Joe Hill. Hawke delivers a bone-chilling performance as an unnamed villain, a character he said breaks with his “no bad guys” rule while introducing the clip.

“The Black Phone” follows an abducted boy “locked in a basement that’s stained with the blood of half a dozen other murdered children. Sienna Miller stars as a single mother in rural small town in Pennsylvania whose life is transformed by a tragic event. American Woman is both a character study and blue-collar family drama. It is the kind of human drama that some worry is being squeezed out of theaters by blockbuster action and superhero movies. The film follows the ups and downs in this working-class woman’s life over several years, but while it has length, it does not have as much depth, although it does treat the characters with respect. Sienna Miller turns in a fine performance but director Jake Scott never lets us really get inside the head of this American woman.

There was a time when, if you were a movie, the last thing you wanted to do was go up against Tom Cruise at the box office. That time was long ago, however, and Cruise is far from a reliable box-office draw these days. This summer's The Mummy was a colossal flop domestically, and last year's Jack Reacher: Never Go Back did even worse. That's why Cruise's new movie, American Made, is unlikely to best the modestly successful Kingsman: The Golden Circle in its second weekend of release. It's not out of the question, actually, that Cruise could even lose out to a remake of the 1980 thriller Flatliners.

Tom Cruise isn't just appearing in The Mummy this year. There's the very different American Made, too. Here's the trailer...

With The Mummy landing in cinemas this week, Universal has taken the opportunity to launch the trailer for its next Tom Cruise project. Once known as Mena, it’s now called American Made, and sees Cruise reuniting with director Doug Liman, following their work on Edge Of Tomorrow.

It also looks like Cruise’s most interesting acting role in some time.

The film tells the story of a hustler by the name of Barry Seal – the character is based on a real person, even if the adventures around him use creative licence – who finds himself recruited by the CIA.

If you’re like us, one big Tom Cruise blockbuster a year just isn’t enough. Cruise may be headlining the start of a brand new franchise with The Mummy this coming weekend, but those who are lukewarm on the prospect may find more to like in his other venture coming out later this year, American Made. The film reunites him with Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman, and shows him as a pilot given the opportunity to run a covert operation for the U.S. government.

Universal has now released a brand new trailer for the upcoming crime flick, and it looks to be pretty darn solid. If the names Cruise and Liman aren’t enough to sell you, the trailer itself may be. It looks to be a fun little ride in the vein of War Dogs, Lord of War, and Catch Me if You Can, which is a very good thing.
