Doug Savant, who played Matt Fielding, a gay character on Melrose Place, recently explained why he avoided discussing his own sexuality while on the show. He felt it was important to stay true to the role he was portraying.

On the Still The Place podcast, Savant talked with former co-stars Laura Leighton, Courtney Thorne-Smith, and Daphne Zuniga about the challenges of playing a gay character as a straight actor during a time when TV had very little representation.

When we were shooting all those things and the trailers for the show, I said to Sam, our publicist, ‘Do you care to talk about how we’re going to handle this going forward, that there was a gay character?'”

I knew it was exceptional, and I thought people would be interested. But she goes, ‘Well, no, it’s not a big deal. You’re an actor, you’re just playing a character.

Courtney Thorne-Smith looked back at her career and recalled a particular moment she experienced when she started.

The Melrose Place alum is opening up about an inappropriate encounter with a director in a movie she did as a teenager.

“One of my first movies, I was 17 years old, and I was in Tahoe. And the storyline was, I was 17, and I was playing against this guy who was in his late thirties,” she did on the Still the Place podcast she co-hosts with Daphne Zuniga and Laura Leighton. “We did sleep together in the script, and I wore one of his button-down shirts afterward.”

Thorne-Smith said what she arrived on the set of the production she was uncomfortable with the “really sexy negligee” costume she would have to wear and told the director that was not in the script.

As a Melrose Place reboot is in the works at CBS, the original series is getting a new audio boost.

Three of the show’s original stars Daphne Zuniga, Laura Leighton and Courtney Thorne-Smith are launching a rewatch podcast of the Fox drama.

Still The Place launched today, on the 32nd anniversary of the show’s launch. It comes from iHeartPodcasts.

Leighton, who played Sydney Andrews, Thorne-Smith, who played Alison Parker and Zuniga, who played Jo Reynolds will dissect each episode from the very beginning, share behind-the-scenes stories and interview special guests from the original cast and crew.

It comes after Deadline revealed in April that a reboot featuring Leighton and Zuniga, as well as Heather Locklear, was in the works at CBS Studios and was being shopped to networks and streamers.

Actor Erich Anderson, whose notable TV roles included portraying the father of Keri Russell’s titular coed on Felicity, died over the weekend in Los Angeles following a battle with cancer. He was 67.

A revival of ’90s hit “Melrose Place” is in the works at CBS Studios, with original stars Heather Locklear, Daphne Zuniga and Laura Leighton set to return, TheWrap has learned.

The Darren Star-created night-time soap followed the complicated lives of several 20-somethings who lived in a Los Angeles apartment complex called Melrose Place, where the drama included a bombing, a drowning and a “Dynasty”-esque pool fight.

Locklear played advertising exec Amanda Woodward, whose addition to the show late in the first season helped boost ratings at the time. Zuniga played Jo Reynolds on the series from 1992 to 1999 while Leighton played Sydney Andrews, sister of Josie Bassett’s character Jane.

Apparently TV can’t get enough “Melrose Place.” The campy sudser from the 1990s, which was already rebooted once in the 2010s, is looking to make another comeback — and this time with three of the Og stars. Heather Locklear, Laura Leighton and Daphne Zuniga are all back to reprise their roles in the latest reboot, this time from writer Lauren Gussis.

Gussis will also exec produce with Leighton, Zuniga, Tiffany Grant and Jason Weinberg. Here’s the logline: “When one of their dearest friends dies suddenly, the Og residents of Melrose Place gather to honor the deceased. But the pressure cooker of a reunion soon uncovers old traumas, rekindles old romances, reignites old resentments, and reveals new secrets… throwing our characters into chaotic drama that’s reminiscent of the past, but with a much more modern perspective.”

Four original Ally McBeal cast members, star Calista Flockhart as well as Greg Germann, Peter MacNicol and Gil Bellows, reunited Monday night during the Emmy broadcast on Fox more than 26 years after the debut of the legal dramedy, which aired on the network for five seasons, from September 1997 to May 2002.

The bit started with Flockhart washing her hands in a replica of the show’s famous unisex bathroom.

“I knew I drank too much water; I had to take my Spanx off, I had to put my dress back on,” Flockhart is heard “thinking” in a voiceover before she takes a look in the mirror and tells herself, “Girl, you look good.”

The new series will be a sequel rather than a reboot and will focus on a young Black woman who joins the law firm from the original “Ally McBeal” after she graduates from law school, according to Deadline. The lead character will reportedly be the daughter of McBeal’s one-time roommate, D.A. roommate Renée Raddick (Lisa Nicole Carson).

As for Ally McBeal herself, Calista Flockhart, her involvement in the project is currently unclear. Per Deadline, “Flockhart has been approached to reprise her title role from the original in some capacity and to executive-produce the followup.” However, the outlet added that “a decision on her potential involvement likely won’t be made until a script has been written.”

This isn’t the first time talks of Flockhart returning to TV as McBeal have made headlines.

ABC might take viewers back to the world of Ally McBeal.

Almost 18 months after it was first reported that a revival of sorts could be in the works, Deadline revealed that a sequel series is in development.

According to the outlet, the project would be written and executive produced by Karin Gist, and would follow a young Black woman who joins the law firm from the original Fox drama.

"The young woman is believed to be the daughter of Ally McBeal’s (Flockhart) D.A. roommate Renée Raddick, who was played by Lisa Nicole Carson on the mothership series," Deadline teases.

Calista Flockhart, who headlined the original series, has reportedly been approached to appear and executive produce.

David E. Kelly, who created and executive produced the original series is said to have given his blessing for the new project.

Kelley previously opened up about the prospect of a revival or reboot.

The Melrose Place that premiered 30 years ago, on July 8, 1992, is likely not the Melrose Place you remember. Initially, Fox’s first Beverly Hills, 90210 spinoff — which focused on the young, attractive residents of the titular West Hollywood apartment complex — played it safe with episodic storylines that neatly resolved at the end of each hour. “We were just eight nice kids trying to make it, and nobody cared,” original cast member Courtney Thorne-Smith (Allison Parker) told The Hollywood Reporter in 2017. One of the most memorable riffs by comic Norm Macdonald was his classic rips at Melrose Place star Courtney Thorne-Smith’s choice of films on a 1997 edition of Late Night With Conan O’Brien.

Macdonald took off on Thorne-Smith’s then-upcoming film with Carrot Top, Chairman of the Board.

“If it’s got Carrot Top in it, do you know what a good name for it would be? Box Office Poison,” Macdonald said, drawing a huge laugh from the crowd. He later topped himself: “I bet the ‘Board’ is spelled ‘bored.’”

Thorne relived those moments on Friday as a guest on an episode of Inside Conan: An Important Hollywood Podcast, which is hosted by former Conan writers Mike Sweeney and Jessie Gaskell. Exclusive: Don’t expect juggling or magicians on Conan O’Brien’s upcoming HBO Max “variety” series.

The comedian, who exited the late-night space with the end of TBS’ Conan in June, has lifted the lid on his streaming plans on the opening episode of Season 3 of the Inside Conan podcast.

The audio series, which is produced by his burgeoning Team Coco business, has been rebooted for a third run with Conan writers Mike Sweeney and Jessie Gaskell, who host the series, covering the beginning, middle and end of O’Brien’s 28-year run in late-night as well as what he and his team have been up to since the show went off the air.

While best known for anchoring “Weekend Update,” Macdonald found himself in other “Saturday Night Live” sketches. For the recurring “Celebrity Jeopardy” sketch beginning in 1996, Macdonald channel a hat-wearing, gum-smacking Burt Reynolds.

One of the final roles of Norm Macdonald, who died Tuesday at the age of 61, was voicing Lieutenant Yaphit, a recurring character on Seth MacFarlane’s hourlong space odyssey The Orville. Macdonald played Yaphit, the gelatinous, shapeshifting engineer on the Orville, in the first two seasons of the Fox series, and sources tell Deadline he’s also in the upcoming third season, which is set to stream on Hulu.

Behind-the-scenes photos from Season 3, which wrapped production in August, featured a model of Yaphit being wheeled to the set and prepped for action (you can see them below).

A new iteration of Ally McBeal may be headed to the small screen.

Ideas about a possible revival of the legal comedy-drama series, which became a pop culture phenomenon, are being bounced around 20th TV, which would produce, sources tell Deadline. Original series creator David E. Kelley is expected to have some involvement in the project, but likely not as a writer. We hear Calista Flockhart, who starred in the title role, has been approached about reprising her role, but there have been no formal talks.

TV Line is reporting that a limited series revival of Ally McBeal is officially in development.

Calista Flockhart, who played the titular lawyer on the original series, is being eyed for a comeback.

If they seriously plan on calling the series Ally McBeal, then they really need to think about locking Flockhart in before pressing on with the project.

Could you imagine Ally McBeal without Flockhart playing the snarky lawyer? It wouldn't land well.

Hosted by Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley, the Stars in the House YouTube series has been posting special reunion episodes for weeks, welcoming casts from Frasier, Glee, Desperate Housewives, Sctv and Taxi, as well as original Broadway casts from Spring Awakening and Les Misérables, among others.

The Tuesday, April 28 episode featured the Melrose cast reminiscing about their years in West Hollywood’s most iconic apartment complex.
