Wild Bunch TV’s “Arcadia,” a high-concept sci-fi thriller series, will return for a second season across 17 territories.

The series, produced by Banijay Entertainment’s Belgian banner Jonnydepony, is set in a near-future, in a society where citizens’ rights and entitlements are determined by their scores.

“Arcadia” follows a “family of hardworking people with a high score and a good life, that is, until the authoritarian regime discovers father, Pieter, tricked the algorithm and manipulated the score of one of his daughters. As a result, he is deported outside Arcadia and the scores of the family members are lowered, changing their lives for good,” the synopsis reads.

“Arcadia” was penned by Bas Adriaensen (“Blackout”), Zita Theunynck and Philippe De Schepper, who is also showrunner. Belgian director Joël Vanhoebrouck, whose credits include “Homegrown,” “Blackout” and “The Infiltrator,” will direct Season 2, taking over from Dutch director Tim Oliehoek who helmed season one.

Created by Philippe De Schepper and Bas Adriaensen, “Arcadia” refers to a post-global catastrophe society where its citizens’ rights and entitlements are determined by their scores. Life is good as long as you remain “healthy, focused and efficient.”

Four sisters, Luz, Milly, Alex and Hanna, retain top scores except for Luz. Their father, anxious to save Luz from being expelled to the Outer World, alters her scores but is caught. He is banished from Arcadia and the entire family is placed under surveillance, their scores slashed. The question now is whether they can get their old lives back.

De Schepper was the showrunner-writer for 10-part Flemish-language thriller series “Blackout,” set in Belgium where an act of sabotage plunges the country into darkness. The female prime minister receives an ominous missive: Turn the power back on and your daughter will perish.

The English-language Dutch film is now shooting in Italy and the Netherlands.

UK actor Aneurin Barnard, whose credits include TV series Peaky Blinders and Dunkirk, and Israel’s Dar Zuzovsky have joined the cast of Dutch director Michiel Van Erp’s costume drama A Beautiful Imperfection, about Casanova and the woman with whom he falls in love.

Barnard is set to play Casanova’s brother Barrnard while Zuzovsky has been cast as Maria, the woman with whom Giacomo Casanova (the more famous of the Casanova brothers) is played by Jonah Hauer-King.

The Amstelveen-born helmer’s new film, an adaptation of her book of the same name, stars Elise Schaap, Pierre Bokma, Maarten Heijmans and Stefan Rokebrand in the lead roles. Antoinette Beumer’s new film, a drama entitled My Father Is an Airplane, is currently in post-production. This is the director’s seventh feature, following her most recent productions Rendez-Vous (2015), Soof (2013) and Jackie (2012). Her best-known works are The Happy Housewife (2010), starring Carice van Houten as a woman who has trouble adjusting to the birth of her son, and Loft (2010), a remake of the 2008 Belgian film of the same name, Loft. The script, penned by Maaik Krijgsman (The Good Terrorist), is based on Beumer’s debut novel of the same name, which was published by Lebowski in 2018. Forty programs from 19 countries have been nominated for 2015 International Emmy Awards. None, alas from Australia.

The awards cover 10 categories and will be announced on November 23 at the Hilton New York Hotel.

Nominees come from Angola, Austria, Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, France, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, UK and the Us. This year the Academy will present two special awards. Downton Abbey writer/creator Julian Fellowes will receive the 2015 International Emmy® Founders Award.

HBO chairman/CEO Richard Plepler will receive the 2015 International Emmy Directorate Award.
