The biggest new announcements in the slate include the formal announcement of Jay Kelly, three-time Academy Award nominee Noah Baumbach‘s latest film, a “heartbreaking comedy” featuring George Clooney and Adam Sandler in the large ensemble cast; Eddie, a biographical documentary about one of Hollywood’s most elusive stars, Eddie Murphy; and a Charles Manson documentary from Academy Award winner Errol Morris.

In the film, Schumer plays Lainy Newton, a newly single teacher who wants to be a mother. So, she understandably gets a little jealous after discovering her best friend, Kate (Jillian Bell), is pregnant, leading Lainy to tell a slight fabrication… in the form of donning a fake baby bump. Her deception is complicated by the fact that she meets her dream man (Will Forte) while acting like she’s with child.

Though far from the busiest week in terms of fresh additions on Netflix, the streaming site still managed to add 13 new movies, 10 new TV shows and even a new stand-up special to its library over the past 7 days, bringing with it a few highlights that viewers have been digging.

On the movies front, Fatal Affair has rocketed to the top of the Netflix charts, currently sitting as the most popular film on the platform. The thriller might be receiving brutal reviews from critics, but that’s certainly not hurting its reputation with subscribers.

Elsewhere, Pride & Prejudice and The Notebook have been keeping fans of romance busy, with both dramas being firmly established favorites of the genre that hold up well even so long after their initial release.

Netflix typically has a rolling release schedule, with new additions coming to the streaming giant’s library every day, but for the last few days there’s been an unusual break with routine.

Since last Friday, which saw the release of Charlize Theron-starring superpowered action movie The Old Guard amongst other things, Netflix has taken a long weekend off and not added any fresh movies and TV shows to its catalogue. The drought comes to an end today, though, with July 14th bringing the following three new titles:

The Business of Drugs (Limited Series) On est ensemble / We Are One (2020) Urzila Carlson: Overqualified Loser (2020)

The Business of Drugs is a new six-part documentary series that aims to examine the long history of America’s “war on drugs.” On est ensemble/We Are One, meanwhile, is a French docu-movie following a group of activists who participate in a music video.

If you’ve already gone through all the new additions to Netflix‘s library from last week, you’ll be glad to know that the streaming juggernaut will be releasing a ton of new titles in the coming days.

Facing the prospect that the Federal Government will impose local content spending obligations on SVOD services, Netflix asserts it wants the right to negotiate how much it invests over the next three years.

In its submission to the government’s ‘Supporting Australian Stories on Our Screens’ options paper review, the streaming giant proposes a “flexible, reasonably-set voluntary investment model that meets cultural policy goals and incentivises wider investment.”

Netflix rejects option 3, which is favoured by Screen Producers Australia and all industry guilds and would require all delivery platforms to invest a minimum percentage of their Australian revenues into local scripted content, with annual sub-quotas for drama, documentary and children’s programs.

Netflix has confirmed most of its upcoming content for July, so it’s time to take a look at what’s on the horizon. It’s a quiet-ish month for the streaming giant, but we assume it’ll only get quieter in the next part of the year as the industry shutdown continues to impact release schedules everywhere. Nonetheless, Netflix still has some intriguing projects to offer, for the time being.

Netflix is out with its list of everything coming and going in July, and it includes Netflix originals like “Warrior Nun,” season one of “The Baby-Sitters Club,” the final football season of “Last Chance U,” and “The Kissing Booth 2.”

Some classic movies and beloved romantic comedies coming to the streamer include the musical “Fiddler on the Roof,” the Ryan Reynolds rom-com “Definitely Maybe,” the Mandy Moore-lead “A Walk to Remember,” and the Jim Carrey 2004 film “A Series of Unfortunate Events.”

Leaving at the end of the month are favorites like the Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams heartbreaker “Blue Valentine,” the Shailene Woodley and Miles Teller love story “Spectacular Now,” Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds,” and all three “Back to the Future” movies.

You know, plenty of streaming services would treat the dog days of summer as an excuse to slow down. At Netflix, however, the content buffet is still open, baby. Despite the coronavirus pandemic shutting down all of Hollywood for an extended period of time, Netflix’s new releases for July 2020 are still jam-packed with a host of familiar originals.

The blockbuster this month is probably The Umbrella Academy season 2. The next installment for the Hargreeves family arrives on July 31. And if that’s too long of a wait for you, Netflix gets the month off to a strong start with a string of originals as well. Unsolved Mysteries arrives on July 1, followed by Warrior Nun on July 2, and The Baby-Sitter’s Club on July 3. That’s not even to mentioned the feminist take on Arthurian legend, Cursed, which premiers on July 17.

There are a couple of intriguing original movies to consider this month as well.

With June now coming to an end, it’s time to begin looking at what’s to come next month on all the various streaming services, and after hearing from the likes of Disney Plus, HBO Max, Amazon Prime and Hulu, the top dog has now announced their line-up for July, and it’s a big one.

Netflix is continuing its strong push into the stand up comedy space with a new comedy event series set to launch in 2019.

The streaming giant announced Tuesday that it will bring together 47 comedians from 13 regions around the world for the series. Each comedian will perform a half-hour stand-up special, some of which will be recorded at the upcoming Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal, with sets also being taped in Brazil, Mexico, India, Germany and The Netherlands. All episodes will be released at once.

The currently untitled project will feature comedians of different styles, genders, ethnicities, and languages, with all of the episodes to launch at once.

Netflix has announced the United Nations of comedy specials with a stand-up comedy event series that will bring together 47 comedians from 13 regions.

The yet-to-be-titled special, which will launch in 2019 will feature The Good Doctor‘s Chris D’Elia, Nailed It host Nicole Byer, former Chapelle Show host writer Neal Brennan and comedy fave Nick Swardson representing the U.S.

The worldwide event series will feature a wide array of stand-up specials from comedians diverse in style, gender, and ethnicity and will tape in seven languages including French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Dutch, German and English. All episodes are slated to launch on a Tbd date in 2019 for your bingeing and laughing pleasure.

The roster of stand-up comedians recording at this year’s Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal will also include Nish Kumar, Joel Dommett, Mae Martin, and Ellie Taylor from the United Kingdom as well as Shirley Souagnon and Jason Brokerss from France.
