A group of distributors of Rajinikanth-starrer Tamil film “Lingaa”, which resulted in heavy losses, may protest again if the remainder of the amount that was promised to them is not settled in a week’s time.

Bollywood diva Sonakshi Sinha who has given back to back super hits in B-town marked her Tamil debut opposite superstar Rajnikant in Lingaa.

Expanded Hobbit holiday cheer will flow next weekend in North America, Italy, Spain and Korea. On the flipside, Exodus: Gods And Kings came in slightly lower in its cume, which is $18.2M versus an estimated $18.8M on Sunday. However, the biblical epic was up over projections in some Asian markets where audiences have been drawn by the scale and spectacle. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 stayed just about on par with Sunday’s estimates, but has now passed the lifetime of Catching Fire in 32 territories including Italy and Brazil — and could imminently pass Cf‘s Latin American take entirely.

There were multiple films that released over the weekend gone by and out of these only three managed to get some kind of a release – Badlapur Boys, Main Aur Mr. Riight and Life Mein Twist Hai. As expected though, none of them could fetch even decent collections. While the promotion was sub-par to begin with, minimal shows further hampered the cause for these films. Recently, it was revealed that how Rajinikanth's much awaited Lingaa had been acquired by Eros for the cost price of 100-120 crore. Now, there is more. Apparently, the film has fetched a slew of buyers already and Eros is all set to bring home over 200 crore even before the first show commences. Confirms a trade source, "There are huge numbers already in circulation, and it is a matter of time before the deals are signed on the dotted line. 55-60 crore are all set to come in for the satellite rights of the Tamil and Telugu version. Further, 70-75 crore offer is already there for the taking w.r.t. Tamil theatrical rights in India. Telugu theatrical rights are further fetching them 30-35 crore. In addition, the film is being sold overseas for approx. 30 crore just for the Tamil version. In addition to this all, there are music rights which are with Eros.

It was just revealed that Superstar Rajinikanth’s next, Lingaa, has been sold to Eros. Well, we have more exclusive bit on it. Apparently, the deal has been struck for a price of over 100 crore. What is all the more significant about this deal is that no profits have been added on the table by producer Rockline Venkatesh and the amount is basically just the cost of production.

“This is smart business, it is as simple as that,” says a trade source, “No one is under any pressure now and instead of table profits, it is longevity of a film due to its commercial content that is being relied upon. Rajinikanth has always been known for making sure that all involved with his films, whether it is producers, distributors or exhibitors, make money. A deal like this for Lingaa is another step in this direction.”
