Written and directed by Wladyslaw Pasikowski, Jack Strong has the following synopsis: In the midst of the Cold War, Ryszard Kuklinski, a colonel in the Polish army, challenges the Soviets when the communist regime was still powerful. The colonel discovers that Poland was the target of the US plans for a nuclear counterattack.

Yaya DaCosta has been cast in the lead role of the upcoming Fox drama series “Our Kind of People,” Variety has learned. With the casting, DaCosta will exit the NBC series “Chicago Med,” on which she has starred for six seasons.

Inspired by Lawrence Otis Graham’s book, “Our Kind of People: Inside America’s Black Upper Class,” the series takes place in the aspirational world of Oak Bluffs on Martha’s Vineyard, a historical stronghold where the rich and powerful Black elite have come to play for over 50 years. The series follows strong-willed, single mom Angela Vaughn (DaCosta) as she sets out to reclaim her family’s name and make an impact with her revolutionary haircare line that highlights the innate, natural beauty of Black women. But she soon discovers a dark secret about her mother’s past that will turn her world upside-down and shake up this community forever.

Oren Moverman began his career as a screenwriter, contributing to such landmarks of independent film as “Jesus’ Son” and “I’m Not There.” In 2009, he made his directorial debut with “The Messenger,” an Iraq-war homefront drama that attracted major critical acclaim as well as two Oscar nominations (for best original screenplay and for Woody Harrelson as best supporting actor). Moverman’s other films as a director are “Rampart” (2011), “Time Out of Mind” (2014), and “The Dinner” (2017); he also cowrote the Brian Wilson biopic “Love & Mercy.” In addition, he works as a producer, and has been more and more active in that role in recent years, having shepherded such films as “Bad Education,” “The Tale,” “Wildlife,” “Monsters and Men,” and “Diane.” I spoke with him about where he thinks the movie world is heading.

Vertical Entertainment and DirecTV have acquired the North American rights to “Human Capital,” which stars Liev Schreiber and Marisa Tomei, an individual with knowledge of the deal told TheWrap.

The drama premiered at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival last month. DirecTV will have the exclusive on pre-release Svod, while Vertical will distribute the film in theaters in the second quarter of 2020.

Marc Meyers’ film is an adaptation of both a 2004 novel by Stephen Amidon as well as the 2013 Italian film based on the book and directed by Paolo Virzi. Oren Moverman (“The Messenger”) wrote the screenplay about two families, one wealthy and one poor, that become intertwined following a tragic hit and run car accident.

The cast of The Batman might be on the verge of becoming even more star-studded. According to our sources – the same ones who were the first to confirm that Robert Pattinson would be playing the Dark Knight, that Viola Davis was returning for The Suicide Squad and that Black Mask will be gay in Birds of Prey – Woody Harrelson is currently being eyed to take on an unknown role in the flick. While this doesn’t mean he’ll 100% get the part, it’s certainly something that fans are going to want to see, as adding an actor of such a high caliber to any project instantly makes it better.

Harrelson’s prolific career has spanned over three decades, with his breakout role coming in 1985 as bartender Woody Boyd in the iconic television sitcom Cheers. The portrayal earned him five Emmy nominations, though he was never able to walk away with the statue.

The Toronto International Film Festival​ has unveiled its second batch of titles premiering in its Gala and Special Presentations programs next month, including two new Gala titles and a whopping 16 new Special Presentations, plus their star-studded Masters and Contemporary World Cinema sections.

Previously announced titles include “Joker,” “Jojo Rabbit,” “Uncut Gems,” “Knives Out,” “Ford v Ferrari,” “Just Mercy,” “The Laundromat,” “The Goldfinch,” “The Personal History of David Copperfield,” “Hustlers,” “Marriage Story,” and “Harriet.” That list has now been extended to include Noah Hawley’s “Lucy in the Sky,” the Kristen Stewart-starring “Seberg,” Kenny Leon’s adaptation of his hit play “American Son,” and Trey Edward Shults’ “Waves,” all showing in the Special Presentations section.

Among the new additions, “Waves” stands out as a surprise, as it had been unclear if the A24-produced followup from the director of “It Comes at Night” would surface this fall.

Tom Harper’s “The Aeronauts,” a period drama that reunites “The Theory of Everything” stars Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones, is one of more than 80 features and 20 shorts that have been added to the lineup at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival, Tiff organizers announced on Tuesday.

“The Aeronauts” is one of two new galas, the other being Giuseppe Capotondi’s thriller “The Burnt Orange Heresy,” with Claes Bang, Elizabeth Debecki and Mick Jagger. Other films added to the lineup include new work by Terrence Malick, Hirokazu Kore-eda, Noah Hawley, Olivier Assayas, Trey Edward Shults, Ken Loach and Gael Garcia Bernal.

The two new galas complete that section in Toronto at 20 films, while 16 new Special Presentations bring that section to 55.
