Paramount's Jack Ryan reboot movie, The Sum of All Fears, is climbing the Netflix charts and currently sits at number four. The film was meant to relaunch the Ryanverse with a younger cast, and featured Ben Affleck as the famous CIA analyst. The cast was stacked, with Morgan Freeman as Dci William Cabot, James Cromwell as President Fowler, Phillip Baker Hall as Defense Secretary Becker, and Liev Schrieber as fan-favorite John Clark.

Phil Alden Robinson (The Field of Dreams) directed The Sum of All Fears, and it opened on May 31, 2002, not long after 9/11. The film follows Ryan as he tries to stop nuclear war from breaking out between the United States and Russia, following a nuclear bomb going off in Baltimore. The villains are re-worked into Austrian neo-Nazis who want war to happen so they can create a new fascist state in Europe.

Lynne Marie Stewart, the actress known for roles in Pee-wee’s Playhouse and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, has died. She was 78.

Elvira star Cassandra Peterson was one of several to pay tribute to the actress Friday on Instagram after coming up together at The Groundlings in Los Angeles and appearing in Elvira: Mistress of the Dark (1988) and The Elvira Show (1993) together.

“My heart is breaking upon hearing the news of my dear friend @lynnestewart78 Lynne Stewart’s passing,” wrote Peterson on Instagram. “One of the kindest, sweetest, funniest women who ever lived. The iconic Miss Yvonne of Pee-wee’s Playhouse: She’ll always be ‘the most beautiful woman in Puppetland.'”

Born Dec. 14, 1946 in L.A., Stewart was a member of The Groundlings in the ’70s, where she met Peterson, Paul Reubens and Phil Hartman.

As was evident from the first rumblings that he'd appear in the movie, the casting of Harrison Ford in Marvel Studios' "Captain America: Brave New World" is a savvy choice. For one thing, Ford makes for a darn decent replacement for the late William Hurt, who was the original actor to portray General-turned-Secretary Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross beginning in 2008's "The Incredible Hulk" and continuing through 2021's "Black Widow." Ford has the necessary gravitas, gruffness, temper, and fortitude to take on the role of a wartime general who becomes embroiled in the politics of a world increasingly beset by massive threats, both domestic and international. Really, the only element missing is Ross' signature mustache, perhaps nixed at Ford's request.

Of course, there's another reason why Ford's appearance in the movie is so apt, and that's because in "Brave New World," Ross has recently been elected as the President of the United States.

Captain America: Brave New World marks director Julius Onah's fourth time directing a feature-length project, putting the relatively unheralded filmmaker among some top Hollywood veterans. Onah credits one of those veterans, acclaimed actor Harrison Ford, for making his experience worthwhile, claiming that meeting him remains a "pinch me moment" he'll always cherish.

During an interview with Deadline, Onah delved into his collaboration with Ford on Brave New World as they carved out Ford's Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as U.S. President Thaddeus E. Exclusive: It has been 30 years since Captain America: Brave New World director Julius Onah relocated from Nigeria to America, but he still remembers his first theatrical experience like it was yesterday. It was Harrison Ford in his iconic role as Jack Ryan in Clear and Present Danger, and Onah in particular hung onto the White House scene when Ford’s character refused to give a pass to a president whose blind desire for revenge backfired horribly.

Onah not only directed Ford playing the U.S. President in Captain America: Brave New World, he also provided the template for the iconic star to transform into a red Hulk.

“I’m still pinching myself,” Onah tells Deadline about Brave New World, which hits theaters globally today.

Mentored by Spike Lee as he matriculated at NYU, Onah relaunched Marvel’s Captain America franchise, this with Anthony Mackie stepping in for Chris Evans to hold the shield.

Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, often just referred to as Jack Ryan, premiered on Prime Video in August 2018 and featured John Krasinski as the title character, a former U.S. Marine officer and Afghanistan war veteran working as a financial analyst for the CIA. The series is based on Tom Clancy's popular book series and featured characters from across the Ryanverse, as fans call it. Phillip Noyce’s 2002 drama Rabbit-Proof Fence will have a 4K remastered cut premiere at the Smith Rafael Film Center on Saturday, July 27 at 7Pm.

Rabbit-Proof Fence tells the true story of three mixed-race Aboriginal girls—Molly Craig, her sister Daisy Kadibill, and their cousin Gracie Fields—who, after being forcibly removed from their mothers in 1931, escaped from a government reeducation camp and embarked on a harrowing journey across the Australian Outback by way of the ‘rabbit-proof fence,’ which once stretched the length of Western Australia, to return to their families. The feature portrays a moment in Australian history now referred to as the Stolen Generations. Kenneth Branagh also stars in the film.

The movie, which was released by Miramax, went on to earn Noyce Best Director at the National Board of Review that year as well as the Freedom of Expression awards and one of the org’s top ten pics.

Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan has had an unusual history on screen. Alec Baldwin was the first actor to suit up as the CIA analyst, playing him in 1990's spectacular submarine thriller "The Hunt for Red October. That film would have theoretically served as the first of many Baldwin-as-Jack-Ryan films, but the actor was overshadowed by Sean Connery in that movie, and negotiations with Paramount Pictures for Baldwin to return in a sequel got so testy that the studio ultimately replaced him with Harrison Ford in 1992's "Patriot Games." For those who have never seen "Patriot Games," it's the type of movie where a guy sternly says "get me hostage rescue at Quantico, now!" into a phone. Tom Clancy's first Jack Ryan novel was "The Hunt for Red October," a 1984 thriller about a Russian submarine and the CIA Agent, Ryan, who has to assure the U.S. military brass that it might have a friendly Russian defector on board. Jack Ryan worked for the CIA, was a former Marine, and had previously been both a stockbroker and a history professor. He wasn't so much an action hero as a nerdy guy in a suit who could engage in action should the situation call for it. In Clancy's books, Jack Ryan would eventually become president. The Jack Ryan novels became seminal airport reading for a generation, and Clancy authored or co-authored 14 of them before his death in 2013. Tom Bower, the veteran character actor best known for prominent turns on The Waltons and in Die Hard 2, has died. A family member confirmed the news to Deadline’s sister publication The Hollywood Reporter. He was 86.

Bower never had what one might call a “breakout” part, but he was an actor one recognized from, well, everywhere. His more than 180 screen credits include appearances on The Rockford Files, Lou Grant, Quincy M.E., Miami Vice, Hill Street Blues, NYPD Blue, The X-Files, Law & Order and many other TV staples of the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s and early 2000s.

And he kept on working. In the past 15 years, Bower was on Ray Donovan, Bosch, Grey’s Anatomy, Criminal Minds, The Office and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. He also played the father of Bob Odenkirk’s character on Lucky Hank and had a part in Vince Gilligan’s El Camino, A Breaking Bad Movie.

Tom Bower, the busy character actor who portrayed Dr. Curtis Willard on The Waltons and the janitor, Marvin, who helps John McClane foil the terrorists at the airport in Die Hard 2, has died. He was 86.

Bower died last week of an unknown cause at his home in Los Angeles, his brother, Robert Bower, told The Hollywood Reporter.

Bower worked on John Cassavetes’ directorial debut, Shadows (1957), and played one of the translators that make a mess of things in the acclaimed Western The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez (1982), starring Edward James Olmos.

He portrayed the father of the 37th U.S. president in Oliver Stone’s Nixon (1995), starring Anthony Hopkins, and the father of Nicolas Cage’s Terence McDonagh in Werner Herzog’s Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans (2009).

The Critics Choice Association (Cca) announced today that legendary actor Harrison Ford will receive the Career Achievement Award at the 29th annual Critics Choice Awards. The awards show, hosted by Chelsea Handler, will broadcast Live on The CW on Sunday, January 14, 2024. Ford currently stars in Apple TV+’s comedy series Shrinking for which he earned a Critics Choice Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series this year, and stars opposite Helen Mirren in the Yellowstone spinoff series 1923. During pre-production of The Hunt for Red October, the first of the Jack Ryan movies, Harrison Ford had been approached about playing Ryan, but he turned it down, and the role went to Alec Baldwin. Apparently, though, Ford had second thoughts after seeing the film, and he wanted to play Ryan in the film’s sequels. He got his wish, and he starred in both Patriot Games and Clear & Present Danger.
