A "Cape Fear"-esque action crime thriller hit theaters in the autumn of 1991. This film, titled "Ricochet," started as a spec script that accidentally mirrored the plot of 1962's "Cape Fear" and was initially intended as a "Dirty Harry" installment featuring Clint Eastwood. After Eastwood rejected the script for being too grim, the script changed hands until "Die Hard" screenwriter Stephen de Souza rewrote chunks of it while still retaining the original premise.
The premise in question is a violent revenge plot, where a righteous attorney is stalked by a psychopath who wants an eye or eye, ready to go to extremes to enact his nefarious plan. A month after "Ricochet" premiered, Martin Scorsese's "Cape Fear" — an official remake of the 1962 version — handled this premise with chilling brilliance, etching a visceral picture of hatred and disgust that also boasts nuance. Although "Richochet" was already lacking in meaningful thrills or stakes,...

Call of Duty is currently one of the best first-person shooter games in the entire world. The franchise, published by Activision, has sold more than 500 million copies worldwide and has more than 100 million active users playing CoD games on a monthly basis on all the platforms. Although Call of Duty: Warzone is hugely popular and is considered to be one of the best titles in battle royale, the title is riddled with cheaters that plague the game and ruin the experience for everyone. Recently, Activision shut down four cheat providers before the re-release of their old map Verdansk. Let’s delve deeper into this.

The Call of Duty community has been hit with yet another “great” announcement from Activision and their band of developers. This time, they are cracking down on the account sellers. But here’s the thing: account reselling is hardly the problem players have been losing sleep over.
Players are frustrated with the lack of attention from developers for the real issues. | Image Credit: Treyarch
What’s really making the life of a CoD player miserable are the Hackers and cheaters. These cheaters are turning every lobby into a pile of garbage. Instead of focusing on that, developers are out here banning account sellers like it’s some sort of big move that will save the game. Spoiler Alert: it’s not.
Developers failing to address the real problem of Call of Duty
Sure, banning account resellers sounds like a good idea, but if we’re being honest, it’s just the tip of the iceberg.

John Lithgow is no stranger to playing villains. The actor has played a number of standout roles over the course of his fifty-plus-year career, particularly excelling and gaining notoriety for his memorable supporting characters. In addition to providing the voice of the villainous Lord Farquad in Shrek (2001), Lithgow played villain characters in Ricochet (1991), Bombshell (2019), Blow Out (1981), Raising Cane (1992), and the Dexter TV show. He also appeared as a larger-than-life villain in a 1993 movie starring Sylvester Stallone.
Stallone has been a fixture of the action genre for decades, getting his start with Rocky in 1976 and continuing to play the iconic boxer in a handful of sequels. He's also known for playing tortured veteran Rambo, of course, a role that dates back to 1982's First Blood. Since then, Stallone has appeared in action movies like Cobra (1986), Demolition Man (1993), Judge Dredd (1995), The Expendables (2014), Bullet to the Head (2012) and Escape Plan (2013). James Ashcroft’s debut Coming Home in The Dark (2021) is one of our bleakest contemporary thrillers and his sophomore feature The Rule of Jenny Pen (2025) is equally as dark. When it isn’t lingering in the frailty of the elderly or the sad reality of those same people being abandoned by their loved ones, it’s chock full of psychological & physical abuse at the hands of genuine madman. But don’t let that scare you away! The Rule of Jenny Pen is a brilliantly deranged slice of cinema with one hell of a scumbag for a villain.

President Joe Biden is concluding his time in office by naming his last round of Presidential Medal of Freedom honorees, and they include two iconic Hollywood names. Entertainment Weekly reports that two-time Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington and five-time Emmy-winner Michael J. Fox are among this year’s Medal of Freedom recipients. Nineteen people in total are included in this year’s honor.
The award is the nation’s highest civilian honor. It is presented to people who have made “exemplary contributions to the prosperity, values, or security of the United States, world peace, or other significant societal, public or private endeavors.”
The White House released a statement regarding the honorees that read: “President Biden believes great leaders keep the faith, give everyone a fair shot, and put decency above all else. These 19 Americans are great leaders because they are good people who have made extraordinary contributions to their country and the world.

Few figures in Hollywood can match Clint Eastwood's towering legacy as an actor and director with nearly 70 years in the industry. From his 1955 debut in Revenge of the Creature to 73 different acting roles and 45 directorial efforts, Eastwood transformed from Sergio Leone's stoic Western hero to the iconic Dirty Harry before emerging as one of cinema's most accomplished filmmakers. His instantly recognizable delivery of lines like "Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?" helped cement his status as a cultural icon. But his versatility allowed him to inhabit roles across every conceivable genre.
Behind the camera, Eastwood developed a distinctive minimalist style marked by patient film noir-inspired cinematography and understated dramatic tension. This approach, favoring action over dialogue and subtle character development over exposition, has earned him numerous accolades, including Academy Awards for Unforgiven, Million Dollar Baby, and Oscars nominations for Mystic River, Letters from Iwo Jima, and American Sniper.

The Oscars can be a contentious subject for fans of cinema and those working within the ranks of Hollywood. Numerous actors have spoken out against the Academy recently, from Brian Cox calling the awards "absolute nonsense" and a "fallacy" because they only judge "work that comes out between Thanksgiving and Christmas," to Sean Penn accusing the Oscars of "cowardice" for ignoring political films like The Apprentice, to Samuel L. Jackson insisting it isn't an honor just to be nominated, it's an honor to win. And now Denzel Washington is adding his voice to the chorus of criticism surrounding the Oscars.
The actor, whose performance in Gladiatior II is generating Oscar buzz in its own right, recently spoke with ScreenDaily and stated that winning an Academy Award early in his career wasn't necessarily the boon most people might consider it to be. Washington nabbed a Best Supporting Actor Oscar in 1990 for...

Denzel Washington's career is mostly a model of consistency. Once he officially broke through with his Academy Award-nominated performance as South African activist Steve Biko in "Cry Freedom," he deftly alternated between prestige roles and strictly commercial parts. There were missteps, but you can at least understand why he signed on to a buddy comedy like "Heart Condition;" he hadn't won his Oscar for "Glory" just yet, and the opportunity to act opposite a tremendously talented performer like Bob Hoskins surely looked appealing in theory. The movie is dreadful, but neither Washington nor Hoskins phone it in.
And yet there was a sense among some in 1992 that Washington's brilliantly multifaceted performance in Spike Lee's "Malcolm X" would put an end to such frivolities as "Heart Condition" and "Ricochet." It's intriguing to consider what might've happened had the Academy not determined that '92 was the year to honor the...

In 1991, Denzel Washington was a rising star, having already received an Academy Award nomination for his performance in Cry Freedom and on his way to becoming celebrated for his portrayal of tough, brooding characters in action movies. During this time, he starred in a crime thriller that received mixed reviews and was largely forgotten. Ricochet almost had a connection to the Dirty Harry franchise, however, that may have gotten it more attention from viewers and critics. Surprisingly, Clint Eastwood shot down this idea because he found the script too dark.
Ricochet certainly was a violent movie with more than a few disturbing scenes. Indeed, some of the more graphic moments had to be cut down during editing. Still, it's somewhat ironic that the film was deemed too dark for a franchise that, itself, drew controversy for similar reasons when it first launched. There are five movies in the "Dirty Harry" series, in which Clint Eastwood embodies Inspector Harry Callahan, who emerges as an antihero figure unafraid to bend the rules. Although Callahan's methods are unorthodox, they are incredibly effective. "Go ahead, make my day," he drawls before brandishing a gun to apprehend criminals. When the "Dirty Harry" franchise was still looking for potential scripts, Fred Dekker — who penned the screenplay for 2018's "The Predator" — wrote a spec script that ended up being turned down by Eastwood. What exactly happened here?
Per Dekker himself, this rejected spec script for the "Dirty Harry" franchise was remodeled later into the 1991 crime thriller, "Ricochet," with Denzel Washington playing the lead role originally intended for Eastwood. Dekker told The Flashback Files that he had accidentally mirrored the plot of "Cape Fear" (which he claims to have not seen at the time) for his "Dirty Harry" installment...

In the chronicles of American cinema, Denzel Washington (who we recently interviewed) stands as a singular force. His body of work represents not just artistic excellence but a fundamental reshaping of what stardom means in Hollywood. Each performance bears his unmistakable signature – a blend of intellectual rigor and emotional truth that has become the gold standard for screen acting.
Washington’s command of his acting instrument sets him apart from his contemporaries. His approach to character isn’t about transformation so much as revelation – peeling back layers to expose fundamental truths about human nature. Where other actors might rely on external changes, Washington works from the inside out, building characters whose inner lives radiate through every gesture, every measured pause, every calculated glance.

Early on in Denzel Washington's brilliant career, he gave critics a preview of how he was going to play the movie star game going forward -- and they weren't pleased. In between making acclaimed dramas like "Cry Freedom," "Glory," and "Mississippi Masala," Washington cut loose and sought to build up some box office cred in formulaic action movies like "Heart Condition" and "Ricochet." Reviewers who viewed Washington as a major star in the making were disappointed with, if not aghast at, his choices. What a colossal waste of the man's time and talent, they reasoned, to run around in his boxer shorts after John Lithgow in full glazed ham mode. Then he'd go and make "Malcolm X," and everyone would hush up until a frivolity like "Virtuosity" dropped.

In the world of online multiplayer games, particularly first-person shooters, cheaters have long been the bane of honest players’ existence. And Activision, the powerhouse behind the Call of Duty franchise, has been waging a relentless war against these digital ne’er-do-wells, with their Ricochet anti-cheat system leading the charge.
But as with any good battle, the tides can turn in unexpected ways.

In a shocking turn of events, Activision has admitted that its much-touted Ricochet anti-cheat system for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone had a critical flaw that led to the banning of legitimate players. The revelation comes mere days before the highly anticipated release of Black Ops 6, raising concerns about the effectiveness of the company’s anti-cheat measures.

To understand "The Bionic Woman" heroine Jaime Sommers, you first have to get on board with "The Six Million Dollar Man." The young tennis star turned partially cyborg superhero was first introduced on "The Six Million Dollar Man" in the show's second season as a female counterpart to the series' male bionic hero. Jaime, the show told viewers, was severely injured in a skydiving accident, but cutting-edge technology allowed her to not only live through it, but also gain new skills. She had extra-strength hearing, superstrength, and the ability to run at top speeds, all of which came in handy for her new life as a schoolteacher-slash-spy.
A high-concept storyline like this one may not thrive on TV today (unless it was made by DC or Marvel), but in the '70s, audiences ate it up. Jaime's eventual death in "The Six Million Dollar Man" was so poorly received that...

Ray Fisher ignites the screen as Lymon, the best friend of lead character Boy Willie Charles, played by John David Washington, in Netflix’s period drama “The Piano Lesson.” His portrayal has even sparked some early Oscar buzz.
Fisher’s last few years have been challenging following his public dispute with “Justice League” director Joss Whedon and former DC Films president Walter Hamada. But this project offers Fisher a chance to move forward.
“What helped this entire process is, I’ve got to give it up to August Wilson,” Fisher said during an interview at the Variety Studio, sponsored by J.Crew and SharkNinja, at the Toronto International Film Festival. “The juxtaposition that existed within the piece, within the character. I think there’s a little of Lymon Jackson in all of us. There’s an innocence about him in this piece that many lose as time passes, especially when you endure such hardship.

The showcase introduced all of the new mechanics players will get to experience. Movement is one of the bigger ones, split into two types: Omnimovement and Intelligent Movement.

XDefiant is currently a popular name for first-person shooters. The free-to-play game was released on May 21 on Windows, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
The game was considered to be a Call of Duty killer with its immersive gameplay and stunning visuals. However, there’s no confirmation if this game is going to topple the Activision title, but it’s surely following Cod in a certain way.
XDefiant Is Infested with Hackers
Since the launch of XDefiant, the game has been going through some serious issues, like server issues and many more. However, the most problematic situation for the game is the atrocity of innumerable hackers.
Recently, a fan shared a gameplay clip where he had to face a disgusting cheater, using speed and auto-aim hacks. This hacker was going all the way around, killing players without any hassle. Despite reporting the player, the hacker wasn’t banned.

The 1991 action movie Ricochet was neither a critical nor a commercial success, but it lives on in the memories of '90s kids who saw it on TV and were stricken by the film's relentless plot, in which Denzel Washington plays a former police officer brutally tormented by a hitman he helped put away. Decades after the film's release, Fred Dekker, who wrote the first draft of Ricochet, revealed in an interview that he had written the script not only as a vehicle for Clint Eastwood, but specifically as an entry in Eastwood's Dirty Harry franchise, in which he plays the only police officer in San Francisco who understands that crime has one solution: violence.

Denzel Washington's move into action films began with Virtuosity, which featured him chasing down an unstoppable killer played by Russell Crowe. Virtuosity help fill the void left by the Terminator franchise, with Sid's ability to regenerate and AI themes borrowing from Cameron's sci-fi saga. The Big Bang Theory's Kaley Cuoco made her big-screen debut in Virtuosity as Karin, the daughter of Kelly Lynch's character.
A 1995 cyberpunk action movie fronted by Denzel Washington also marked Kaley Cuoco's big-screen debut. While some movie stars start their careers with action movies before moving into other genres, Denzel took the opposite route. Denzel Washington's movie CV is filled with stirring dramas and taut thrillers like Training Day, but in the early stages of his career, he largely avoided traditional action roles. Crimson Tide is a psychological thriller at its core, and while 1991's Ricochet is a secret Die Hard spinoff, it too largely eschews action.

Ricochet is a dark thriller connected to Die Hard via the character of Gail Wallens (Mary Ellen Trainor). Denzel Washington's character faces torment and mental anguish, creating a bleak and harrowing journey. Originally conceived as a Dirty Harry sequel, Ricochet's script was rejected by Clint Eastwood as "too grim".
Arguably Denzel Washington's most shocking thriller is also a stealth Die Hard spinoff. Producer Joel Silver had a run of megahits from the 1980s onwards, having produced Commando, Predator, The Matrix and many more. Silver also produced the first two Die Hard movies, which had a sizable impact on action cinema. While action movies during the 1980s were dominated by indestructible, muscle-bound heroes played by Schwarzenegger and Stallone, Die Hard was fronted by an all-too human everyman. Bruce Willis' McClane bled, struggled and even cried, bringing a human element to the genre.

The Little Things features Denzel Washington in his 13th law enforcement role, showcasing his versatile talent in crime dramas over the years. Despite mixed reviews, The Little Things became a global hit on Netflix three years after its release, showcasing Washington's enduring appeal. Training Day and Inside Man stand out as Denzel Washington's best cop movies, with iconic performances and critical acclaim setting them apart.

What’s the saying? Oh yeah… third times the charm and the Resident Evil series is no exception. For our third outing we’re here to explore the aftermath of the apocalypse with Resident Evil: Extinction (watch it Here). This one is pretty divisive with the consensus being some people, like myself, loved this film while others felt this was the beginning of the downward slope of sequels of the franchise. Hear me out as to why I sing its praises. For one, it tells a cohesive story and gives us a side of Alice that we’ve been dying to see. We get more new characters that bring gravitas to the story as well as a fully fleshed out villain and it’s a lot of fun. Plus, its pays homage to The Road Warrior in the best way. Cheaters in Call of Duty need a double-check from developers. Despite many attempts to ward off the evil in the game, appears like no trick is working out against malevolent players. Another instance has surfaced on the internet where one hacker ruined the game entirely. Interestingly, that malicious user didn’t even use a gun to wreak havoc in a cross-play-off lobby.
An anti-cheat system dubbed Ricochet is been in place for months now, however, it appears like the systems are still learning to distinguish the innocent from malevolent ones. In their last crackdown, the Ricochet team said they had banned 6,000 hackers from the game. Still, the problem persists and is spreading like wildfire.

Cheaters in Call of Duty have become such a topic of debate, the subject has now reached certain celebrities. Recently, the conversation made it to The Joe Rogan Experience, a podcast hosted by American comedian and UFC color commentator Joe Rogan.
Over the years, the show has become immensely popular, with millions of monthly listeners on Spotify.
Recent patches in MW3 and Warzone were supposed to get rid of these cheaters, however, the issue persists and they continue to plague the game. Players have urged the devs to take strict actions against hackers, but all a user is left with is a feeling of being unheard.

Call of Duty is a game that has always been susceptible to cheating and has been a bone of contention with fans for years. There are still those hardcore fans of the franchise who enjoy the online multiplayer of Modern Warfare and Warzone and find that the gaming experience is tarnished by those who use unscrupulous methods to win.
This has been highlighted by thousands of players and developers Activision Blizzard addressed this by introducing their anti-cheat initiative for PC – Ricochet. Someone has got to keep these cheaters in check or Call of Duty is finished. No one would want to play a game full of cheaters and CoD: Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone are already plagued with hackers taking over the game. A lot of really fun movies from the eighties and nineties are tough to get decent copies of. While some of the stories have happy endings, other films seem all but doomed to languish until a niche label like Arrow Video, Kino Lorber, or Unearthed Films gives them the TLC they deserve. So, what’s the title we’re worried is Gone Forever here at JoBlo? A cool little thriller (which I previously wrote up for Best Movie You Never Saw) from 1991 called Ricochet has a pretty impressive pedigree. The movie stars Denzel Washington, John Lithgow, Ice-t, Kevin Pollack and The Bionic Woman herself, Lindsay Wagner, while Highlander’s Russell Mulcahy directs it, is produced by Joel Silver, and is written by Die Hard’s Steven E De Souza. In fact, Ricochet takes place in the same universe as Die Hard, with Mary Ellen Trainor reprising her role as snoopy TV reporter Gale Wallens.

Hackers in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone are having fun flying helicopters to outer space, getting grenade launcher kills from sniping range, and doing what not to ruin the game’s experience. That doesn’t mean the CoD team is just sitting back, they are observing too. Since the introduction of the game’s anti-cheat system, Ricochet, they have barred a large number of accounts from the game using hacker mods.
Last year, they instituted a concept called “splat.” As the name suggests, it can flatten a player on the ground, giving it a fine coat of red, something that Splatoon players will find amusing. What the system does is cut a player’s parachute upon detecting them using a hacked version of the game. What follows isn’t that hard to imagine.

One of the most concurrent problems in first-person shooters for PC is the cheaters. Call of Duty Warzone has a severe issue with this. Through the years, the team has banned millions of accounts for using cheats or hacks in multiplayer matches. Activision has now confirmed that the anti-cheat system for Warzone is having some issues, so the cheaters and hackers are back. Players are recommending staying out of the game until Ricochet, when the anti-cheat system will be restored to normal, especially in ranked matches.

Months ago, we here at JoBlo started writing about an issue near and dear to the hearts of film fanatics everywhere – the resurgence of physical media. After being shocked by how difficult it was to find the Ron Howard movie Cocoon, I decided to make a list of 10 movies that were difficult to find, but the comments on the article clued me into the fact that the issue of out-of-print classics is far more widespread than I assumed. Last week, I did an article about how movies like The Cannonball Run and Dogma are missing, and in that vein, here are five more cult classics that are surprisingly tough to find.

Denzel Washington’s 2010 action thriller The Book Of Eli is heading to the small screen, with John Boyega take the lead as a younger Denzel.
Much like Liam Neeson, Denzel Washington has become something of an action hero in the latter stages of his career. While he has previously appeared in films like Ricochet and Crimson Tide, it wasn’t until he played John Creasy in Tony Scott’s brutal 2004 revenge film Man On Fire that we really got to see him off some bad guys in a variety of inventive ways.
Since then of course, he has become synonymous with vigilante justice, dishing out karmic vengeance in three Equalizer films to date. But in 2010, he played a different kind of action hero in The Book Of Eli, a post apocalyptic thriller in which he plays a drifter intent on delivering a sacred book to safety in the West Coast of the United States.

One of the biggest joys in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is unleashing the wacky power of a new weapon on hapless Goons and bots. Luckily for new players, Ratchet and his co-star Rivet can find weapons with incredible reality-bending effects that defy the imagination. With these weapons in hand, players can effectively wipe the floor with any enemies they encounter on their dimension-hopping adventures.
Every weapon in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart can be fun to use, and they all have unique effects that make them worth testing at least once. However, as players progress through the story, they’ll need to level up Rift Apart’s weapons so they’re still effective against any enemies they encounter. Despite an abundance of upgrade resources, players will still need to prioritize upgrades for the best weapons in the game.
Spoilers for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
Burst Pistol
How To Get: Available from the start of the game.
