Long before the Roys of New York or the Sopranos of New Jersey, one family dominated television: the Ewings of "Dallas." The genre-shaking soap opera aired for 14 seasons from 1978 to 1991, chronicling the dramatic, twist-filled epic saga of the Ewing Oil dynasty. 

On a picturesque ranch in Dallas, Texas, the family used their money, connections, and cunning to bat away threats from outside and within. Whatever threats that rival oilman, spurned lovers, or wannabe politicians think they can pose, "Dallas" always reminds us that there's nothing stronger -- or more dangerous -- than family. 

Over 30 years have passed since the final episode of the original series, and there's been well over 10 years of silence from this world following a brief revival on TNT. As such, many are curious about what happened to the cast of "Dallas," so we tracked down as much information about its massive ensemble cast as we could.

Star of both the big and small screen, George Kennedy has died. The actor passed away at the age of 91. It was reported by the Oscar-winning actor's grandson that Kennedy had been in failing health since the death of his wife over a year ago. He is best known for his role on the hit TV series Dallas and turns in such iconic movies as Cool Hand Luke and Airport.

The actor won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role as prison warden Dragline in Cool Hand Luke. He died this past Sunday in Boise, Idaho. Grandson Cory Schenkel told TMZ that the actor had been in hospice care this entire past month. Though, an exact cause of death was not immediately stated.

Dallas vet George Kennedy, who picked up an Oscar for 1967’s Cool Hand Luke but who was probably best known for his work in the Airport and Naked Gun franchises, died Sunday, TMZ reports. He was 91.

Kennedy played rancher and Ewing family nemesis Carter McKay on Dallas from 1988-1991, later reprising his role in the reunion pics Dallas: J.R. Returns (1996) and Dallas: War of the Ewings (1998). Although he didn’t appear in the recent TNT revival, his presence was felt via Carter’s grandson Hunter (played by Fran Kranz).

His final TV role was in 2003 on CBS’ The Young and the Restless,...

J.R. Ewing lives again.

TNT has greenlit its long-in-development remake of "Dallas," which will have a new cast but also feature the returns of several of the original series' stars, including Larry Hagman as J.R. Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray will also reprise their roles as Bobby and Sue Ellen Ewing.

"Dallas" will also star Josh Henderson ("90210"), Jesse Metcalfe ("Desperate Housewives," "Chase"), Jordana Brewster ("Fast Five," "Chuck"), Julie Gonzalo ("Eli Stone") and Brenda Strong ("Desperate Housewives"). Cynthia Cidre ("Cane," "The Mambo Kings") wrote the pilot and will executive produce with director Michael Robin ("The Closer," "Nip/Tuck").

The series won't premiere until next summer, but viewers can get their first look at the show Monday (July 11) during the season premieres of "The Closer" and "Rizzoli & Isles" on TNT.

American screenwriter Arthur Bernard Lewis has died from pneumonia at the age of 84.

Lewis passed away in Los Angeles on 30 October.

He began his career as a producer on U.S. TV series The Doctors and the Nurses and eventually moved on to write popular programmes including The Streets of San Francisco, Barnaby Jones, Baretta, Hawaii Five-o and In the Heat of the Night.

In 1978, he joined the production team behind hit series Dallas, first serving as executive story editor and then supervising producer, working on the series' famous Who Shot J.R.? episode in 1980 - the highest-rated TV episode in history at the time.

Lewis also wrote 1990s TV films Dallas: J.R. Returns and Dallas: War of the Ewings.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Estelle, a son, a brother, a granddaughter, a great-granddaughter and a step-son.
