Max’s Harry Potter TV series has officially cast four series regulars and two recurring roles, including four actors Deadline previously revealed: John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.
The newly announced cast includes Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch. Whitehouse is the only actor cast thus far to have appeared in any of the original films. He played Sir Cadogan in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
The franchise follows the life of a young wizard, the titular Harry Potter, whose parents died under mysterious circumstances when he was very young. He was forced to live a life of misery and servitude to his aunt and uncle and their awful son before he was freed from his gilded cage when Hagrid extended an invitation that changed his life forever.

Whether it’s the original director or not, following up all time classics in a series is a tall task. We have seen it with many of the greatest movies of all time like Rick Rosenthal having to follow up John Carpenter and Halloween or John Boorman following up William Friedkin and The Exorcist. Sometimes the original director has a go at it for contractual obligations like Tobe Hooper and Cannon films giving us Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 or for passion like John Carpenter himself electing to attempt to give us a better version of Escape from New York but in Los Angeles. Sorry, John, we still think you are wrong about that one. One director that made a career of it was George Romero. While he certainly had a varied career with things like Knightriders, Creepshow, and Monkey Shines, he is also the godfather of modern zombie horror. After Night of the Living Dead...

Shaun of the Dead director Edgar Wright has an intriguing new project. He’s finishing up another Stephen King adaptation for fans of cinematic versions of the horror icon’s prose.
The massive success of the first It remake increased interest in rebooting King's past works, including the ones that didn’t do so well. So far, no one appears interested in developing a new version of Maximum Overdrive, but this November, we'll see the second big-screen version of 1987's The Running Man.
The Running Man originally debuted as a novella King wrote under his “Richard Bachman” pen name. The dark dystopian work about a game show where contestants face a life-or-death chase with hunters on their heels had much potential. That’s not how things played out in theaters. While King’s books continued to sell high volumes, films like Firestarter and Creepshow 2, didn’t set critics or fans on fire.

Folks, I'm going to be the one person brave enough to say it: 2025 has not exactly been great so far. I won't get into all the reasons why (have you checked your 401k lately?), but even narrowing the aperture to only the world of movies, things have been pretty rough out there. A majority of the big studio films have been disappointments, and the box office was struggling mightily until "A Minecraft Movie" came along. There have been a few highlights -- I loved "The Ballad of Wallis Island," for example, and I really enjoyed Steven Soderbergh's one-two punch of "Presence" and "Black Bag" -- but the first few months of the year weren't exactly filled with non-stop bangers.
Given the bumpy road movie lovers are currently experiencing, I felt a palpable sense of relief when I saw the new horror/comedy "Hell of a Summer." It's not the...

Simon Pegg has teased the stunts Tom Cruise performs in ‘Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning’ are "just beggar belief".The 55-year-old actor is due to reprise his role as I.M.F (Impossible Mission Force) technician Benji Dunn opposite Cruise’s agent Ethan Hunt in the latest instalment of the action franchise, and Pegg has now teased his co-star’s stunts will leave audiences speechless.Speaking on a panel at AwesomeCon about ‘Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning’, he said: "For me, it was my favourite of the six ‘Missions’ that I filmed. It was my favourite to shoot. "We were in the Arctic; we were in South Africa. The stunts Tom is doing just beggar belief. After nearly three decades of death-defying stunts, elaborate disguises, and impossible missions, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is—maybe—bringing the epic story of Ethan Hunt to a dramatic close. Directed and written (with Erik Jendresen) once again by Christopher McQuarrie, the mind behind Rogue Nation, Fallout, and Dead Reckoning, the latest chapter is aiming to be the biggest and boldest yet. As the release draws near, Simon Pegg chatted with Collider about Benji Dunn’s journey, the evolving ensemble, and what really makes this "the final reckoning."
As part of Collider’s Exclusive Preview event spotlighting this summer’s biggest films, Pegg opened up on all things Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. With the stakes higher than ever and the title alone hinting at major consequences, we asked Pegg what makes this the final reckoning. True to Imf form, he kept things close to the chest. Glen Powell just dropped a major update on his upcoming remake of a classic action movie. Powell is set to star in The Running Man, which is coming to theaters on November 7 and is a remake of the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger film of the same name. The thriller is set in a dystopian America where a falsely convicted policeman has a chance to earn his freedom when he is forced to compete in a game show that sees convicts, runners, and more fight to the death. Powell recently sat down with People Magazine to promote his upcoming line of condiments, Smash Kitchen, and he confirmed that Schwarzenegger gave them the go-ahead to make the movie:
“Arnold gave us his blessing. Patrick Schwarzenegger is a great friend of mine, and I asked Patrick if I could talk to Arnold and I hadn’t seen Arnold since we shot Expendables in Bulgaria. Arnold gave us his full blessing,...

During last night's Final Four games on CBS, Paramount Pictures announced that the brand new theatrical trailer for Tom Cruise's highly anticipated Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning - which originally debuted at CinemaCon last week - will be released online Monday!
Whether it'll drop during the National Championship Game or earlier in the day remains to be seen, but we'd wager on the latter since that's generally when the studio tends to launch new footage. We'd then expect a TV spot to debut during the game, directing fans online to check out the full-length trailer.
Plot details remain under wraps, but we learned at CinemaCon that the film will pick up two months after the events of Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning, with Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) still seemingly on the run and presumably on the hunt for the sunken Sevastopol.

Harry Potter casting news has been quiet in the last week, but one of the actors to be linked to a big – literally big – role in the movie is Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz star Nick Frost. While fans have been very much on board with the idea of Frost stepping into the huge shoes of the late Robbie Coltrane to play Hagrid in the upcoming TV show based on the books of J.K. Rowling. However, it seems that just like many other exclusives about actors being “close” to being cast in big projects, news of Frost’s “casting” may have been a little premature.
So far, only one member of the Harry Potter TV show cast has been confirmed, and that is John Lithgow as Dumbledore. However, even that role has not actually been confirmed by HBO, and only through Lithgow himself openly discussing the part has...

The highly anticipated Harry Potter TV reboot is officially in the works, promising a decade-long deep dive into Hogwarts like never before. With casting news flying faster than a Firebolt, things are already looking lumos-lit. One of the biggest questions on everyone’s mind? Who could possibly fill Hagrid’s enormous boots (and beard)?
Well, reports according to Collider are swirling that British comedy legend Nick Frost, yes, that Nick Frost from Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, is stepping into the role of our favorite half-giant with a heart of gold. And honestly? We’re kinda obsessed with the idea. Frost has the warmth, the wit, and definitely the build to bring Hagrid back to life in a fresh, nostalgic way. If there’s one thing that’s as prolific as horror author Stephen King himself, it’s the world of Stephen King adaptations. It was recently announced, for starters, that the author’s killer dog classic Cujo is headed back to the screen with a new adaptation in the works from Netflix with Black Swan filmmaker Darren Aronofsky in talks to direct.
Mike Flanagan also has plans to tackle new adaptations of The Dark Tower and Carrie for Amazon, and A24 is developing Stephen King’s Fairy Tale into a 10-episode series, to name just a handful of new movies and series on the way in 2026 and beyond.

Glen Powell is lacing up his sneakers and racing to stay alive in the thrilling first trailer for “The Running Man,” Edgar Wright’s adaptation of the dystopian action thriller that was another key step in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s transformation from professional bodybuilder into a major movie star. Paramount Pictures, the studio behind the remake, offered a first look at the film at CinemaCon as part of its presentation to theater owners on Thursday.
It finds Powell playing a down-and-out family man who decides to compete in a deadly game show where contestants try to outrace swat teams and drones that are trying to hunt them down (think “American Idol” with a much higher body count). The winner gets a cash prize. The losers end up in the morgue.
“This game is no game…life and death run wild,” Colman Domingo, playing the malevolent host of the popular program, intones.

Marvel, and specifically the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has dominated the zeitgeist for nearly two decades at this point. There's always plenty of talk as to whether general audiences are getting tired of Marvel movies, and while the MCU may not be as infallible as it once was, there's still ample interest. 2024's "Deadpool & Wolverine" crossed the $1 billion mark, and "Daredevil: Born Again" has been largely viewed within a positive light. Sure, every so often you get a "Captain America: Brave New World" that underperforms, but superhero movies will always have a place within the cultural landscape.
Some might argue that there are already too many Marvel movies, but they're could've been plenty more. For every Marvel project that winds up in theaters, there are numerous others where a script was written or even went into pre-production but got cancelled for one reason or another. Honestly, some of these cancelled...

Now, Richters wants to take the lead.

The zombie genre is one of the oldest and most resilient subgenres in horror, starting with Victor Halperin's seminal 1932 film "White Zombie" starring Bela Lugosi. The subgenre has evolved and seen many changes throughout the decades, with new variations, genre mixes, and reimaginings that keep the walking dead fresh and relevant. Whether that's George Romero defining the modern zombie with poignant social commentary in his "Dead" movie series that started with "Night of the Living Dead" in 1968, Danny Boyle bringing the genre to modern times with fast zombies and gritty handheld filmmaking in "28 Days Later," or "The Walking Dead" turning the undead into compelling TV drama in the 2010s.
One thing many modern zombie movies and shows have in common, which may appear bizarre for those not overly familiar with the genre, is the lack of the word "zombie." Indeed, zombie is almost a dirty word in the genre,...

Per Deadline, Angels in the Asylum halted filming in February, 15 days into a month-long shoot, with producers currently scrambling to get the $6.4M production back on track. The movie's crew members are reportedly owed at least £600,000 in wages, with cast pay ringfenced in an escrow account under Equity union agreements. Pegg, who also serves as an executive producer for Angels in the Asylum, has not invested in the film and has not yet been paid for his work.

The upcoming Harry Potter series may have found its Hagrid, and the choice could be the perfect person for the role!
One of the biggest challenges for HBO’s Harry Potter adaptation is going to be the casting. It’s one thing for fans of the long-running book series who have imagined the characters in their heads. It’s another when the 2001-2011 movie series had what some would consider near-perfect casting for each character.
The HBO show hasn’t officially confirmed their castings yet, but according to various sources, the planned cast will include John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape.
Now, Deadline is reporting that Nick Frost is in negotiations to play Hogwarts’ groundskeeper Rubeus Hagrid. As with the other castings, HBO has yet to confirm the news themselves. However, Frost himself seemed to tease it with an Instagram post saying,...

The upcoming Harry Potter adaptation for HBO continues to find its cast. While the gigantic task of finding the core group of child actors is still in the process, the Warner Bros. series has been chugging along with some casting news — namely, John Lithgow taking up the role of Dumbledore for the show. “The overall concept of this entire reboot of Harry Potter is an entire season is devoted to a single novel,” Lithgow said. “You know, Dumbledore is — he’s kind of the nuclear weapon. He only goes on very, very occasionally. I don’t think it’s gonna be that hard a job, and, we’ll just go back and forth.“

In just a few short months, Nick Frost will be seen going from dragon slayer to dragon dentist as moustachioed viking Gobber the Belch in Dean DeBlois' live-action How To Train Your Dragon movie. And, if the latest word from Deadline is to be believed, then it looks like Frost's care of magical creatures will be continuing with another giant franchise outing very soon. Yes, according to the trade, the Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz star is nearing a deal to play Hogwarts' beloved gamekeeper Rubeus Hagrid in HBO's upcoming Harry Potter series. Now how's that for a slice of fried gold?
While HBO are, as usual, refusing to either confirm or deny Frost's involvement in Mark Mylod and Francesca Gardiner's Wizarding World reboot, this news comes just days after the iconic actor-comedian shared a cryptic Instagram post saying "What a bloody lovely day! It's happening,...

Let's hope the Hogwarts grounds have been reinforced for some reenactments of Bad Boys II and the freezers are stocked with Cornettos, because, according to Deadline, British actor-comedian Nick Frost is nearing a deal to play the beloved half-giant Rubeus Hagrid in HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series. If confirmed, the Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead star will step into the enormous boots once worn by the late Robbie Coltrane, who portrayed Hagrid across all eight films in the original Warner Bros. franchise.
Frost would join an already high-profile ensemble reportedly including John Lithgow as Professor Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape—all previously reported as nearing deals for the project. HBO declined to comment on the casting news, offering only a general statement: “We appreciate that such a high-profile series will draw a lot of rumor and speculation. Harry Potter fans have started to see the first pieces of HBO’s new TV series coming together, with John Lithgow’s Dumbledore casting and several other stars being “close to a deal” to take on some of the iconic roles of the franchise. Now it looks like HBO is closing in on an actor to take over the role of another much-loved character of the franchise – Rubeus Hagrid.
According to Deadline, Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz star Nick Frost is close to stepping into the large shoes of Hogwarts’ groundskeeper, who becomes an ally of Harry and his friends during their time at the wizarding school. Having previously been played by the late Robbie Coltrane throughout the movie franchise, the role of Hagrid is certainly not going to be an easy one to take on, but Frost certainly seems to be someone who can bring the kind of comedic timing and jolly,...

HBO’s “Harry Potter” television series has honed in on a British vet for its vast ensemble of Wizarding World characters. Nick Frost, known for his turns in Edgar Wright’s comedic Cornetto trilogy, is nearing a deal to play Rubeus Hagrid, the kindly half-giant groundskeeper of Hogwarts, Variety has confirmed with sources.
HBO declined to comment on Frost’s potential involvement, though they provided the cagey response that, “We appreciate that such a high-profile series will draw a lot of rumor and speculation.”
“As we make our way through pre-production, we will only confirm details as we finalize deals,” the network continued. It is the same statement that HBO issued when reports emerged that John Lithgow was in talks to play Albus Dumbledore. (The actor has since confirmed his casting.)
Reports of Frost’s involvement emerge days after the actor posted a cryptic message on his Instagram, saying “What a bloody lovely day!

Real-life vintage shop owners Ruth Syratt and Megan Stevenson raid the past for sellable trinkets in this charmingly funny, quintessentially British comedy
Here is a very silly and very likable British mockumentary, one that – like Ruth and Megan, the two real-life Muswell Hill vintage-shop mavens at its centre – lovingly mixes and matches multifarious styles. Director and co-writer Chris Reading adopts a little The Office deadpan, some Shaun of the Dead bathos, a heap of Terry Gilliam, and even shoplifts a shot from Wes Anderson. If the resulting low-budget assemblage still bears these nametags and has the odd stray thread showing, it also has a persistent charm of its own.
The ChaChaCha vintage emporium (which really exists) is limping along until owners Ruth (Ruth Syratt) and Megan (Megan Stevenson) stumble on a time machine in the form of a souped-up bumper car – and thus an infinite supply of merchandise from whichever epoch they desire.

Star Trek and Star Wars are two of the most popular sci-fi franchises. While the former was the first to appear on small screens with The Original Series, the latter made the genre popular with its groundbreaking special effects and blockbuster storytelling. The popularity of Star Wars even led Star Trek to be revived and several other spinoffs were developed.
Although there have been several films, Star Trek is usually considered to be best made for TV or in the long-form format. Star Wars too has branched out to streaming with its Disney+ offerings, with shows like The Mandalorian and Andor gaining success. With both franchises spanning wide, naturally there will be some actors crossing over.

The last time zombies dominated the horror genre, George W. Bush was in the White House. Since then, the braindead hordes have retreated — never disappearing completely, of course, but showing up in reduced numbers compared to their heyday of “Shaun of the Dead” and the “28 Days Later” series. Now, with climate change accelerating and fascism on the rise, the mood has turned post-apocalyptic once again.
Multiple films at this year’s SXSW engage with this ambient feeling of existential paranoia. The Australian entry “We Bury the Dead” takes the straightforward zombie-apocalypse route, with a little bit of “elevated” thematics mixed in. And given how many variations on both themes already exist, it’s impressive that writer/director Zak Hilditch has located some fresh angles on the concept.

Edgar Wright is one of those directors who can sell a movie with his name alone. With a career that includes Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and Baby Driver, Wright is arguably one of the most celebrated and popular directors working today. While many of his films are based on original scripts or popular graphic novels, Wright is now turning his musically charged mind to remaking the beloved Arnold Schwarzenegger sci-fi classic, The Running Man (based on the Stephen King novel of the same name). Fans have been excited about the new movie for years, and we've finally got our first look at the movie.
Thanks to the latest issue of Empire Magazine, Edgar Wright fans can go behind the scenes on the production of The Running Man. The outlet shared an exclusive photo of Wright on set, giving his best director's pose with his crew behind him.

Stephen King’s The Running Man is headed back to the big screen later this year from director Edgar Wright, with Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick, Twisters) taking over the role played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1987 movie. It’s set for release in theaters from Paramount on November 7, 2025.

Since Osgood Perkins’ feature debut with The Blackcoat’s Daughter, the filmmaker quickly developed a reputation for somber, atmospheric horror. Perkins left that variety of horror behind for his fifth outing as director with The Monkey, opting instead to entertain with an absurdist, gory comedy that mines death for all its mordant humor. It’s a move that might seem out of left field at first, until you recall Perkins’ early career start as an actor with comedic roles including the underseen early aughts horror-comedy Dead & Breakfast.

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" looks set to rise from the grave, with Sarah Michelle Gellar reportedly set to return as her iconic character. This is great news for everyone who grew up watching the original series in the late '90s and early 2000s, but the revival probably won't arrive for a while yet, and that means having to wait impatiently. Still, what if we told you that there's an awesome show that's similar to "Buffy" and flew under the radar at the time of its release? Live-action remakes aren’t just Disney’s anymore. Universal debuted a full look at the reimagining of DreamWorks Animation’s beloved “How to Train Your Dragon” during the Super Bowl, releasing a stirring new trailer after a spot during the NFL championship game.
Like the original film from 2010, this remake follows the isle of Berk, where vikings and dragons have long been enemies. But when Hiccup (Mason Thames) goes against centuries of tradition to befriend Toothless, a Night Fury dragon, he disrupts the community and opens up new possibilities for both vikings and dragons alike. The teaser shows their initial meeting, with a wary Hiccup gently reaching out to touch Toothless on the snout, slowly earning his trust.
“I’m the first viking who wouldn’t kill a dragon,” Hiccup says.
And he’s rewarded for his decision. Together, Toothless and Hiccup soar through the sky, barreling past rocky cliffs and roaring oceans,...

This article contains some spoilers for "Heart Eyes."
The filmmaking team behind the new Valentine's Day-set slasher movie "Heart Eyes" seems to be rallying around their film with a particular spin on the "see it in theaters!" agenda. Namely, that new horror movie icons cannot be born if no one goes to see them when they're brand new. While this is unimpeachably true, it feels important to point out at least one of the reasons why horror fans — traditionally a very loyal and easy-to-please group — have not shown up for one of the several attempts at creating a new horror icon over the last decade and change. While some have not been given a fair shake at all, others have either had a pretty lackluster start, been too singular to franchise (I don't think we'll be seeing "Skinamarink V: The Skinamarinking" anytime soon), arrived too late (the eventual "Thanksgiving" movie...
