Mubi has unveiled their lineup for next month’s streaming offerings, featuring a selection of notable new releases, including Kazik Radwanski’s Matt & Mara, Lisandro Alonso’s Eureka, Monica Sorelle’s Mountains, Marija Kavtardzé’s Slow, Monia Chokri’s The Nature of Love, and more. Additional highlights include films by Ryusuke Hamaguchi, Brady Corbet, Peter Weir, and more.
Recently naming Matt and Mara one of the best films of 2024, Blake Simons said, “Kazik Radwanski’s misty-eyed, mostly improvised tale of friends-not-quite-lovers excels at capturing intricacies of the unspoken. There’s a warming tenderness and quiet sadness to Deragh Campbell and Matt Johnson’s restrained interactions. In the final moments, Mara places a crumpled receipt inside a book and returns it to its shelf. Sometimes that’s what a good film is: a leaf through our feelings. Matt and Mara is there on the shelf now, for when we feel like opening that book again.

Now that Juliette is outside of the silo, the people inside want to know what’s going on. It means unrest is growing in Silo season 2, episode 2.
The premiere episode did not disappoint. It was mostly just Juliette on her own, and Rebecca Ferguson did an outstanding job. We got to see a little of what the world outside is like, and we had a chance to see the world of another, identical silo.
It’s clear that one rebellion has happened. We also got a brief look at Solo, who will become an important character. However, don’t expect to learn anything about him in the new episode. When we got ready for Silo season 2, we were warned that the second episode would take place in Silo 18.

The best word to describe Unrest is “clever.” It isn’t on the level of the artisans and thinkers it lovingly portrays—all the graphers and the ists—but not so far off; and more than enough to be worthy of their story. Consider the title’s neat duality. “Unrest,” as the film explains, is another name for a wristwatch’s balance wheel: an instrument that, working in tandem with the spiral and escapement, creates the mechanism that makes it tick. Then there is the other kind.
Unrest is set in Jura, a Swiss town that became famous in the 19th century for its skilled watchmakers, most notably a group who were integral to the formation of the “Jura Federation,” an anti-state, anti-egalitarian anarchist offshoot of the First International. The director behind this precisely crafted curiosity is Cyril Schäublin, a rising auteur from Zurich whose For Those Who Are Fine...

Like many of his countrymen, Swiss filmmaker Cyril Schäublin has watchmaking in his blood, a legacy he can trace back through his grandparents’ generation. That influence is apparent in his meticulously crafted second feature, “Unrest,” whose historical and philosophical parts fit together as smoothly as the gears of a Swiss timepiece.
“Unrest” is set in the 19th century in Switzerland’s Saint-Imier valley, a region famous for watchmaking which also became the political epicenter of that era’s growing international anarchist movement. Based on historical events, it tells the story of a woman, Josephine, who works in a watch factory and struggles to make ends meet. As she gradually grows uneasy with the influence of industrialization and capitalism in her village, she decides to join a local anarchist workers movement where she meets Piotr Kropotkin, a mysterious Russian traveller.
Their encounter unfolds at a time of dramatic technological and social upheaval,...

The career trajectory of Philippe Grandrieux has in some respects come full circle in the last ten years. International acclaim came to the director with his signature narrative film Sombre (1998) in part due to its loose association with the so-called French New Extremity movement of the late-1990s and early 2000s, and he has cultivated a devoted following among certain audiences, critics, and critical theorists with the features A New Life (2002), Un Lac (2008), and Despite the Night (2015). His work originates, however, in video installation, photography, and documentaries—media that he has worked in consistently from the mid-1970s through today. While their subject matter is diverse, a “thesis” of sorts running through nearly all of his works can be distilled into a statement by Grandrieux himself: “Le cinéma est l’art de la sensation” (“cinema is the art of sensation”). Grandrieux’s approach to the film subject has been distinguished...

Holliston is a riotous and offbeat multi-camera, buddy comedy starring Adam Green (director, “Hatchet,” “Frozen”), and Joe Lynch (director, “Knights of Badassdom,” “Wrong Turn 2”). Set in the town of Holliston (near Boston), the series shines a light on the post-college life where everything is a struggle, and nothing works out like it’s supposed to, with terrifyingly funny results as Adam and Joe struggle to become big-time horror filmmakers, and Adam embarrasses himself as he tries to win back his high school girlfriend. Think of “Holliston” as “Big Bang Theory” meets “Evil Dead 2.”

We're all excited for Adam Green and Joe Lynch's upcoming sitcom "Holliston", and as an East Coaster, I'm doubly excited to see a little favoritism when it comes to having the opportunity to check out the first two episodes early.
That's right, Boston folk, head on over to Emerson College on Tuesday night, March 13th at 7:00 Pm for an opportunity to see "Holliston" before it airs. Best of all? Series creator and star Adam Green will be joined by co-stars Joe Lynch, Corri English, and Laura Ortiz as they present not just one, but two episodes of the upcoming sitcom. This event is open to the public, and seating is first-come/first-served. Doors open at 6:30 pm in the Bright Family Screening Room at the Paramount Center on the Emerson College campus.
