Leslye Headland did not do a convincing enough job to get Disney to approve a second season for The Acolyte. The show could’ve beaten all odds and went on to achieve The Mandalorian-level success by doing a few things right. There was indeed one person from Star Wars‘ most successful TV series, who could’ve done justice to the storyline exploring the dark side.

The Mandalorian brought in actress Bryce Dallas Howard to direct an episode for each of its three seasons. Dallas’ directorial prowess was clearly visible in the Season One episode Sanctuary, which explored the human side of Din Djarin. She also hit the right spots with one of the most beautiful relationships in the Disney Star Wars world.

Despite being released in 2015, Fallout 4 continues to attract new players, helped in no small part by Amazon Prime's hit Fallout series. As with many RPGs, Fallout 4 allows you to create different character builds based on seven core stats that can be increased as you level up. But with so many build options, and the optional Survival Mode to consider, it can be difficult for those starting out to know which stats to focus on first.
When starting in Fallout 4, you will be asked to choose your starting stats at the door by the Vault-Tec Rep during the pre-war introduction. It is here that any build being used should be considered. For example, a gunslinger build would want high Agility, whereas a melee character would want to focus on Strength. Each stat influences different aspects of the character and unlocks key Perks, but some are good for any build.
What Are Fallout 4's Stats?...

We spoke to Blumhouse producer Beatriz Sequeira leading up to the release of Speak No Evil, a buzzy new psychological thriller that is being especially praised for the reliably superb James McAvoy's performance. It hits theaters tomorrow, Sep. 13, and Sequeira who serves as executive producer on the film has been keeping busy with other highly anticipated projects by Blumhouse, such as Wolf Man, starring Christopher Abbott in the eponymous role. Originally, Ryan Gosling was set to play the iconic character, and ironically, Abbott and Gosling have starred together in a big film (First Man). Sequeira weighed in on the change:
"To be perfectly honest, I think it's just one of those things that the movie evolves. And, you know, we have an incredible version with [director] Leigh [Whannell] and Chris and Julia Gardner. And I think that's what we need to focus on. This is the movie, and it's coming out...

Christopher Andrews’ Bring Them Down is an endurance test with no payoff. Opening with a jarring car crash on a windy road in rural Ireland, the film soon adds scenes of gruesome animal cruelty, an ear literally being blown off someone’s head, and then further sequences of gruesome animal cruelty. Such onscreen acts can be tremendously moving, of course, when presented in great films––Andrea Arnold’s 2021 documentary Cow a recent example.
Bring Them Down is not a great film. It’s occasionally compelling thanks to its haunting, almost otherworldly locations in Ireland. Mainly, though, what stands out are performances of the ever-intense Christopher Abbott, Nora-Jane Noone, and, most notably, Barry Keoghan. But the actors serve a drama that is relentlessly violent and thoroughly unpleasant. It’s a testament to these performers that they make so much of so little.

Nowadays, The Mandalorian is a massive Star Wars event. Fans eagerly await new episodes of the space opera series, and it seems as if every new installment connects to some other portion of the larger Star Wars universe. From the resurrection of Return of the Jedi-era Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) to the return of Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), the series has almost singlehandedly restored the franchise to its most iconic roots. But in the first season, all of that was different. Din Djarin's (Pedro Pascal) initial appearances were pretty standalone compared to later seasons and set the tone for a new sort of Star Wars adventure. But of all of these first-season escapades, it's the Bryce Dallas Howard-directed "Chapter 4: Sanctuary" that most stands out, hearkening back to the Western roots of the Star Wars franchise.

Bryce Dallas Howard's success in directing Star Wars shows her dedication to collaboration & storytelling. Howard's lesson from George Lucas on collaboration has helped her become one of Star Wars' most revered directors. The Mandalorian's diverse range of directors has set a precedent for future Star Wars series, with Howard leading the way.
The collaborative nature of directors in Star Wars truly began with The Mandalorian, and as it turns out, one of the series' most revered directors has succeeded by learning one valuable lesson about collaboration from George Lucas himself. With The Mandalorian being the first live-action Star Wars TV show, it had the opportunity to set the precedent for all the series that followed it, with one of the most notable being the wide range of directors chosen to lead each episode. One director who's been a part of all 3 seasons to date is Bryce Dallas Howard.

Bryce Dallas Howard should create a Din Djarin origin story show due to her expertise with the character in The Mandalorian. Exploring Din Djarin's past could fill in gaps in Mandalorian history and deepen the character's story. Howard's balance of action and vulnerability would make a gritty bounty hunting show for Din Djarin ideal.
Now that Bryce Dallas Howard has expressed interest in creating her own Star Wars TV show, I know exactly what story she should tell, and it has everything to do with those she's already brought to life in her previous directorial episodes: Mandalorians. Howard made her Star Wars directorial debut in The Mandalorian season 1, episode 4 "Sanctuary," where she was tasked with what was admittedly the trickiest episode to direct, according to showrunner Jon Favreau. She, of course, did a fantastic job, and has since gone on to direct several other Star Wars episodes.

"If I wanted to, I could get rid of you." Neon has revealed the first official trailer for Sanctuary, described as a "wickedly dark comedy" about power & control. This first premiered at the 2022 Toronto Film Festival last year, with some critics raving. The film follows a dominatrix, Rebecca, and Hal, her wealthy client, and the chaos that ensues when Hal tries to end their relationship. Christopher Abbott stars with Margaret Qualley. "A battle of wills ensues over the course of one incredibly fraught night, with both Rebecca and Hal struggling to keep the upper hand as the power dynamics swing wildly back and forth." Reviews for the film say it slyly comments on how "some people have more to give than they would ever know without the right person to take it from them." What a spicy trailer! This looks like an intense drama about how power dynamics work – a...

‘Sanctuary’ Trailer: Margaret Qualley Holds Christopher Abbott Hostage in Neon’s Dominatrix Thriller
Margaret Qualley sets out to spank, seduce, and scourge Christopher Abbott in the sexy blackmail drama “Sanctuary.”
Qualley stars as dominatrix Rebecca, whose elite client Hal (Abbott) wants to end their psychosexual relationship after inheriting his late father’s empire. However, Rebecca has other things in mind to punish him. The film takes place over one night in a hotel room.
“Sanctuary” is directed by Zachary Wigon (“The Heart Machine”) from a script by “Homecoming” co-creator Micah Bloomberg. The film debuted at 2022 TIFF and will be released by Neon this spring.

THR‘s Stylist of the Year Elizabeth Stewart worked with Tár best actress nominee Cate Blanchett to create a red carpet campaign with the smallest environmental footprint possible. “The theme is Cate’s closet and celebrating it,” says Stewart, “and being as conscious as possible of the impact our choices can have.” Law Roach, who made worldwide headlines when he announced his retirement from styling March 14, outfitted Zendaya in internet-shattering 2002 Versace for the NAACP Image Awards. Also trending? A return to megawatt glamour, as evidenced by both Anne Hathaway with stylist Erin Walsh and Gucci glamazon Jodie Turner-Smith, who turned the Venice International Film Festival canals into her own catwalk,...

Thanos is regarded as one of the most powerful and dangerous beings in the entirety of the Marvel Universe. While one of the Mad Titan's most infamous weapons, the Infinity Gauntlet, was brought into the popular zeitgeist in the MCU film Avengers: Infinity War, the monstrous villain actually has an entire cache of terrifying weapons at his disposal.
Thanos is the result of a controversial experiment to create new Eternal life by harnessing Deviant genes, which took place on the moon Titan and resulted in Thanos and his brother Eros. The violent and nihilistic Thanos has been behind major Marvel crossover events like Infinity Gauntlet, Infinity Wars, Infinity Crusade, Infinity Abyss, Annihilation, and The Thanos Imperative, where he has used a terrifying array of diverse and deadly weapons, often guided by his unhealthy obsession with the living embodiment of Death. Here are the ten deadliest weapons in Thanos' arsenal.

Until the great gears at Amazon start turning and give us a new Stargate series, we’ll have to make do with the classics. Fortunately, Stargate Sg-1 gave us 10 seasons, two spin-offs (three if you count Stargate Infinity... which you don’t), and two direct-to-home movies (three if you count Stargate Origins... which you don’t).
Unfortunately, unless you still have your treasured DVD box set and still have a DVD player in 2023, it can be a full-time job trying to work out where to stream Stargate Sg-1.
Luckily it’s my full-time job. You’re welcome.

Stargate Sg-1 is currently airing on Comet TV in the US. Comet TV’s business model was initially based on the MGM back catalog, but don‘t be surprised if this changes as Amazon tidies up the licensing agreements it inherited.

Hayley Marshall entered The Vampire Diaries on a mission to learn about her birth family and why she was adopted, and the details of her hidden lineage ended up being critical to her position in the New Orleans supernatural community. Though her daughter, Hope, was the key to launching the spinoff The Originals, Hayley was frequently the most motivated, active figure, tracking down anyone who knew about her background. As Hayley learned more about her birth family, she consistently used the information to fight for her family and build a place for the werewolves in New Orleans.
Set during and after The Vampire Diaries' timeline, The Originals used Hayley as a way to explore both the inheritances of blood family and the strength of chosen family. While Hayley kept her adoptive name and embraced her space in the Mikaelson family, she never forgot the potential life that she would have led as Andrea Labonair,...

The Mandalorian has quickly become one of the most iconic characters in the Star Wars franchise. Pedro Pascal is credited for playing Din Djarin/the Mandalorian, but did you know he isn't always in the suit? During the 2022 Star Wars Celebration event, Pascal joked that Grogu has "two other daddies" because it takes multiple people to bring the character to life. So, who's really wearing the helmet? Well, it's actually a combined effort between Pascal and his doubles Brendan Wayne (who is the grandson of John Wayne) and Lateef Crowder, who both bring their own unique skills to the Mandalorian character.
In the 2020 docuseries "Disney Gallery: Star Wars: The Mandalorian," Pascal explained that Wayne and Crowder are behind a lot of the character's mannerisms and stuntwork. "I'm modeling my performance around their physicality in a lot of ways, and I wouldn't be able to do it without them,...

The "Star Wars" franchise has always been connected. Even in the very beginning, before the character of Luke Skywalker became fully formed, George Lucas planned to connect the different stories of his galaxy far, far away with the framing device of a "Journal of the Whills." While that concept was ultimately abandoned, Lucas never stopped trying to connect his different "Star Wars" projects.
There were the movies, which went back in time to tell the story of how the galaxy ended up the way it is in the original trilogy, but also the "Clone Wars" cartoons were all connected. But the version of "Star Wars" Lucas created and was therefore considered canon is not the same as the Expanded Universe with multiple moving parts and interweaving stories.

Joseph Campbell's hero's journey, aka the monomyth, has long formed the backbone of so much of "Star Wars." Where George Lucas' original "Star Wars" trilogy embraced the template, his prequel films sought to undermine it by questioning whether the very idea of a Chosen One could end up doing more harm than good. Years later, the Disney-backed sequel trilogy would take things a step further by centering on Rey, a protagonist whose lack of ties to any known "Star Wars" characters further subverted the concept one must be "destined" for greatness to bring about positive change in the world around them ... until the trilogy back-tracked on that, anyway.
Getting to the point: In contrast to the Skywalker Saga's examination of myths and how people mythologize heroes, the live-action "Star Wars" shows have found their groove by shifting their attention to a galaxy far, far away's working class and the unsung...

With the anxiously awaited third season of "The Mandalorian" coming to Disney+ on March 1, the current crown jewel of the "Star Wars" galaxy is going to quickly become much larger in scale and more epic in tone. The previous two seasons introduced lone bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his adorably cute cargo, Grogu, as they traversed the Outer Rim Territories in search of a Jedi capable of training the Mandalorian's small but powerful young passenger. In "The Book of Boba Fett," which essentially operated as "The Mandalorian" season 2.5, Grogu made the choice to return to Mando's care, setting the stage for a Force user to actually be welcomed into Mandalorian culture.
Previous seasons explored the zealotry of Mando's clan, whose members all follow a strict code known as "The Way" where removing your beskar helmet in front of others is strictly forbidden. After being banned for admitting...

Ahead of the upcoming open beta test weekend, Blizzard Entertainment has released a new “World of Sanctuary” video for Diablo IV. This new series of developer insight videos aims to highlight “the wealth of features and design inspirations that make Sanctuary a world worth exploring”.
In this first entry, members of the Diablo IV team discuss how players will be able to jump into an all-immersive experience, and how the team crafted the darkest and most expansive version of Sanctuary in the series. Highlights include:
The art style in Diablo IV is shadowed and macabre, in many ways reminiscent of the grisly atmosphere of Diablo II. There are five unique zones, each with their own grim environments and themed dungeons to match. One of the artistic goals was to make every scene look and feel like a painting, so every color and texture was meticulously made to accomplish the desired grim design.

The Mandalorian's Din Djarin has frequently violated his people's strict rules for never removing their helmets, but certain loopholes in the Mandalorian Code actually allow helmets to be removed during specific instances. Disney's Star Wars series shows the Mandalorian mask off for a total of 4 times. Yet, The Mandalorian season 2 has seen the helmet rule called into question — first by other Mandalorians like Bo-Katan, who freely remove their helmets, and in "The Believer" by Migs Mayfeld, who calls Mando out for bending the rules when things get desperate.
Disney took a risk by making a Star Wars show where the main character's face is never seen, but Mando's helmet rule has actually become one of the series' most compelling elements. Seeing the Mandalorian helmet off has become a rare treat for viewers. It also presents the challenge of conveying emotion through dialogue and physical performance alone, resulting in the powerful...

The reveal of at least one Red Rocket station in the TV show is already a clever game parallel for Amazon's Fallout series that might also be hinting at the inclusion of a popular Fallout 4 character. Though Amazon Prime Video's Fallout series started filming in July 2022, most of the debut season's story is still shrouded in mystery. Leaked photos of a work-in-progress Red Rocket production set may not reveal much about the plot, but they still hint at some interesting possibilities for the upcoming show.
Fallout’s perfect casting choices were a great start, and it looks like the adaptation of the iconic video game franchise is still on the right path under the guidance of former Westworld showrunners Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan. While it’s already been confirmed that the show will not be following the story of the Fallout games, showcasing an intricately detailed Red Rocket filling...

The Islekeep's Iron Hatchet is a new Tool in the Island Sanctuary for Final Fantasy Xiv that Farmers of Light can use to harvest new resources from trees, such as Island Resin, Island Coconuts, or Island Beehive Chips. This Hatchet serves as an upgrade from the Stone and Bronze Tools that players used previously before Patch 6.3. With the new materials obtainable with the Iron Hatchet, players can continue to develop their island paradise and craft new recipes for their Home Sweet Hideaway. However, a prerequisite must be met before players receive the Hatchet's crafting recipe from Felicitous Furball.
To unlock the Islekeep's Iron Hatchet in the Island Sanctuary of Final Fantasy Xiv, players must reach Rank 10 and have crafted all the previous Tools before this upgrade. Leveling one's island takes time, so newcomers to Island Sanctuary should not expect to unlock their Iron Hatchet for several days or weeks.

Since World of Warcraft Classic lets players relive the Mmo’s early days, Blizzard is slowly reintroducing fans to classic raids and dungeons. Soon, Wrath of the Lich King Classic players will even be able to experience the original version of one of the game’s best raids, Ulduar. The question now is, “When will Ulduar be released?”
According to the official WoW Classic site, Ulduar will be released for Alliance and Horde players at 3 Pm Pst on January 19. There has been no indication that there will be a staggered global release schedule at this time, though it’s possible that will change in the final moments. At the very least, this is a bit of an unusual release time compared to prior Classic updates.

The Grey's Anatomy season 6 finale remains the highest-rated episode of the show's run. With 19 seasons under its belt, it makes sense that Grey's Anatomy would have a number of some of the best episodes in television history, especially with dramatic incidents like plane crashes, fires, live bombs in bodies, and much more. While this is impressive, it seems that the medical drama hit its high point back in season 6, and the show has never been able to match up to that level.
By Grey's Anatomy's season 19, only 20 episodes have been ranked with a score of 9.0 or higher on IMDb. The highest-ranking episodes range from standalone milestones like the 300th episode "Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story" to inspirational ones like "Silent All These Years," which addressed the MeToo movement. James Cameron is poised to dominate the zeitgeist once again with the release of Avatar: The Way of Water. Thirteen years in the making, Avatar: The Way of Water has arrived with such pomp and circumstance that it's hard to believe the original Avatar film dates back to 2009. While early reactions point to the story of Avatar: The Way of Water succeeding yet breaking little new ground, the film's visuals have been heralded as a massive accomplishment much more than worth the price of admission.
Something notable about Cameron's process in making Avatar: The Way of Water is the way he has found to continue bringing his longtime collaborators into the fold. A prime example of this is Sigourney Weaver, who is playing an entirely different character in Avatar: The Way of Water. In terms of music, Cameron enlisted composer Simon Franglen, who worked with legendary film scorer James Horner on the first film,...

U.S.-Pakistani director Iram Parveen Bilal has wrapped principal photography at Pakistan locations on her fourth film “One of a Kind” (aka “Wakhri”).

As she tries to keep her online identity a secret, she’s gradually exposed to society’s dangerous underbelly and forced to manage the repercussions.

George Lucas' Star Wars: A New Hope drew on influences from several sources, but John Wayne Western The Searchers was one of the biggest. Wayne may have appeared in everything from romantic dramas to war movies, but he's still most associated with Westerns. Of the 80 Westerns Wayne starred in, the likes of Rio Bravo and True Grit are considered classics. His crowning achievement is The Searchers, a John Ford adventure about Wayne's bitter, racist Civil War vet teaming with his nephew to rescue his kidnapped niece. Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg have cited it as one of their favorites, and it's often spoken of in reverence by other filmmakers.
Lucas has also namechecked The Searchers' influence on Star Wars. From the basic setup - with both featuring a grizzled veteran and a naive young man setting out to rescue a kidnapped woman - to the many epic landscape shots of sandy deserts,...

According to dialogue in Avengers: Infinity War, Thanos only slaughtered half of the surviving Asgardian refugees. That's perfectly in character for the Mad Titan, whose goal is literally to kill off half the life in the universe. It would make sense for him to have done the same to the refugee vessel. But the lack of exposition has left viewers troubled, because it's not quite clear how any Asgardians survived in the first place. The post-credits scene for Thor: Ragnarok saw the Asgardian refugee vessel intercepted by Thanos' Sanctuary II. Infinity War's opening scenes clearly take place shortly after, with Thanos and the Black Order walking among the dead and dying. Thor has already been defeated, a handful of secondary characters including Valkyrie are mysteriously absent, and the refugee ship has essentially become a ship of the dead.
