This, like it's predecessor, is deliberate stupidity of the highest order. Take it seriously at your own peril. You'll either get it or you won't.
There's nothing wrong with you if you don't.
There might be if you do! Haha.
It's over the top, stupid, cringey and hilarious all rolled into one. It stays fairly faithful to its original movie chemistry.
Personally, I marvel at how much of a hilariously colossal dick-head Macgruber is. It's like watching a train wreck in slow motion.
Watch this with the same philosophy you'd watch NASCAR;
You really don't care who wins. You're more interested in seeing the results of someone else's abject stupidity.
I give it a 7 based on its faithfulness to its original.
But I understand why people score it way less.

I loved the MacGruber movie and the skits for Saturday Night Live so I was really looking forward to this. It did not disappoint. Will Forte returns as the funny as hell MacGruber. He's as annoying as ever. You don't have to see the movie or skits to watch this but it helps because it takes place ten years after the movie. This is actually better than the movie and skits, more ridiculous but even funnier because of it. I can understand that this comedy isn't for everyone, it has an Austin Powers type comedy to it except more adult oriented. The supporting cast (Ryan Phillippe, Kristen Wiig, Sam Elliott, Laurence Fishborne, etc) is excellent as well. They all understand how absurd the show that they're making is and you can tell they're all having a blast making it.
Just like the film disengage your brain and have a great laugh and sillyness.
The people here rating it as low as they are obviously didn't watch the film or ever see the character before and went in expecting something very different. Although the credits should have prepared you. Lol.
Anyway just what I needed.

I was going to rate this show an 8, but I just can't denigrate it that much. It made me laugh hard at many moments and I've watched it through several times now (it remains saved for future viewings). Of course Forte is a comedic genius in his own right. I even wish I could rate a 10 but it wasn't quite that perfect of a full season 1.
I found some of the goriness a little more than needed and as much as a fan as I am of this franchise, I still can't quite understand the over-the-top extreme mockery of the original character and TV show from the 80s. But I go with it nonetheless.
Kristen Wiig again delivers as much or more than Forte in this series follow-up to the 2010 movie. Her song at open-night in episode 1 is surprisingly wonderful, touching.
Again, wish I could rate this a 10/10 but there were moments of excessive gore and vulgarity (even) that at times seemed to detract for even the most hardened vet of comedy and horror and whatever.
Still a great series, well worth the watch for viewers with thick skins who are able to understand satire and sarcasm at extreme levels.

I really enjoyed the movie, and the show hasn't let me down. It may not be everyone's sense of humor but for those of us who enjoy the more crass humor, you should like it.
