Nearly three years ago, it was announced that Timo Tjahjanto (The Shadow Strays, V/H/S/94) had been enlisted to helm the remake of South Korean zombie epic Train to Busan for New Line Cinema, titled The Last Train to New York before being pulled from the schedule. The filmmaker recently gave an update on the film’s status.
When asked by a fan on X whether the director was still attached to the project, Tjahjanto replied “I’ve been ready since 2020, but when a film is stalled that’s not up to the director.”
The Last Train to New York was initially dated for theatrical release on April 21, 2023 before being temporarily un-dated in 2022. This is the first update, though not much of one, since the news that the remake was being pulled from the release slate.

I walked through the door and was greeted by a maniac with a chainsaw warning me not to lose my head. Turning the corner, I came face-to-face with two massive creatures, eyes glowing, faces looking like they’re made of chewed-up bubble gum, grins stretching wide enough that you can practically hear the corners of their mouth creaking. Or was it the mechanisms making them move? The walls around you are lined with countless images of monsters, slashers, and other nightmares. You’d typically expect what I encountered to be the start of a haunted house and not an art gallery, but that’s not the type of experience you get when you step into the twisted and vibrant world of Alex Pardee. No, in Alex’s world, the snooty expectations of strolling a gallery are ripped away in bloody, ghoulish delight because in his work, it’s all about the horror.

With a strong cult following behind them, the V/H/S movies are a must-see for fans of anthology horror, but they're far from perfect. They fill a highly specific subgenre, which isn't for everyone, but is ideal for those seeking something a little different from a standard slasher or haunted house horror film. The Bloody Disgusting-produced V/H/S was released in 2012, alongside a handful of horror anthologies. Since then the V/H/S franchise has gained notoriety with horror fan circles as being a go-to for unforgettable if at times inconsistent frights.
Horror anthologies like The ABCs of Death and All Hallow's Eve all came out within a two-to-three-year period of 2012, but the V/H/S movies at their best are arguably a step above in terms of quality. The first two V/H/S sequels from 2013 and 2014 retain the overall structure of the first, while introducing new elements of their own. V/H/S/94 hit Shudder in 2021, with V/H/S 99 arriving one year later.

“Teacup,” Peacock’s new series executive produced by James Wan, is a tricky one to write about. Writer, producer, and showrunner Ian McCulloch (Yellowstone) draws very little from Robert McCammon’s Stinger, opting for a modern, minimalist interpretation of the horror western, one driven almost entirely by its central mystery. The eight-episode inaugural season is so structured around its enigmatic threat, purpose, methodology, and reach that “Teacup“ becomes a landmine of spoilers to dodge for the sake of preserving its many, many surprises. While that makes for a lot of setup and character dynamics to establish, McCulloch’s careful plotting and effective atmospherics pay off, resulting in an intense, rewarding inaugural season.

Plot: Follows a disparate group of people in rural Georgia who must come together in the face of a mysterious threat in order to survive. Inspired by the New York Times bestselling novel “Stinger” by Robert McCammon.
Review: The name James Wan attached to a production likely makes you think you are in for something similar to The Conjuring or Insidious. The filmmaker has become synonymous with scary movies as much as he has directed big-budget tentpoles like Aquaman and Furious 7. Still, his prowess as a producer has fostered several cool projects under his Atomic Monster banner in recent years. The new series Teacup carries Wan’s name recognition but is the brainchild of Ian McCulloch. In my opinion, the "V/H/S" franchise has been consistently worthwhile ever since the first installment dropped in 2012. A horror anthology loosely based around the idea of found footage captured and/or broadcast on analog devices, the series eventually abandoned its attempts at building a sense of mythology and lore and focused on the real appeal of the franchise, which is acting as a showcase for a mixture of up-and-coming as well as established filmmakers in the indie horror world. Sure, its nature as an anthology means that not every segment is going to be everyone's bucket o' blood, and some installments have more duds than bangers. Yet I've found at least one segment in each "V/H/S" film to adore, and in most cases have found several.
Ever since producers Josh Goldbloom and Brad Miska brought back the series with 2021's "V/H/S 94" after a seven year break, they've released a...

The V/H/S franchise returned in 2023 with V/H/S/85, and viewers may have questions about the best way to watch the V/H/S movies in order. The films are a unique horror hybrid, combining a found footage template with a horror anthology storytelling format. In each V/H/S movie, the framing story involves one or more people discovering a collection of V/H/S tapes. Each depicts one of the horror movie shorts of the film, and each presents an unexplained, horrifying event while keeping its context a mystery.
V/H/S does not have a strict franchise continuity per se, due to the anthology approach of the series. However, the handful of spinoffs of V/H/S movies do establish what little continuity the franchise operates on through the stories they tell. Specifically, SiREN and Kids vs. Aliens serve up parallel narratives to the V/H/S franchise, connecting to the segments "Amateur Night" in V/H/S and "Slumber Party Alien Abduction" in V/H/S 99.

It's incredibly hard to keep a franchise fresh when it's been around for more than a decade headed into its seventh installment. But a couple of missteps aside, the "V/H/S" franchise has done a remarkable job of keeping things fresh over the years. I'm pleased as punch to report that "V/H/S/Beyond" isn't just taking the ball and running with it — it may well have set a new high bar for the series.
The seventh installment overall and the follow-up to last year's "V/H/S/85," this new entry takes things "Beyond" by giving every one of the six segments a sci-fi hook. Marrying sci-fi and horror has often yielded very satisfying results. Some of the all-time greats in the genre, such as John Carpenter's "The Thing" or Ridley Scott's "Alien," look to the horrors of science fiction to bring us something thrilling. Nobody 2 is now reloaded, cocked and shooting under the direction of Timo Tjahjanto, who is stepping in for the first film’s director, Ilya Naishuller. The first "V/H/S" movie was released in 2012, which was actually four full years before the last manufacturers of VCRs, Funai Electric, finally halted production on the medium.
VHS was, for those of a certain age, a seminal and ubiquitous technology. Prior to VHS, the only way to see certain cinematic classics was either to go to a repertory theater (which used to be far more common) and see it on the big screen (requiring a well-curated arthouse in your town) or to wait for something to broadcast on network TV (which was often edited for content or time). With the advent of VHS, movies were on-demand for the first time. One could rent their movies from a local video store and watch them at their leisure. Raatma is a frightening creature who appears in a memorable segment of V/H/S/94 and a lot of thought went into the monster. V/H/S/94 is the fourth installment of the V/H/S found footage franchise. The first film, which premiered in 2012 and helped define the decade's cult horror movie boom, features segments of horror films, directed by up-and-coming horror directors, all connected by an equally terrifying wrap-around segment. V/H/S/94 follows the same format, though with the wrap-around and segments taking place in 1994.
V/H/S/94 is one of the best movies in the V/H/S franchise thanks to its solid lineup of segments, suitably creepy and mysterious wrap-around, and a more polished and updated look that still has a documentary feel. In the first segment of the horror anthology, "Storm Drain", a Channel 6 News reporter from Westerville, Ohio, Holly Marciano (Anna Hopkins), and her cameraman Jeff (Christian Potenza), investigate what they think is a local...

Back in 2021, actor/comedian Bob Odenkirk – who is best known for playing the role of con artist turned lawyer Saul Goodman on the TV series on Breaking Bad and its spin-off Better Call Saul – made the unexpected move of playing a retired government assassin in the action thriller Nobody. Doing the unexpected worked out, as Nobody was a success, making $57.5 million at the box office on a budget of $16 million. That was enough to get a sequel greenlit – and now that production has started on that sequel, we figured this was a good time to put together a list of Everything We Know About Nobody 2!
Script
Scripted by John Wick writer Derek Kolstad, Nobody saw Odenkirk playing Hutch Mansell, an office worker and family man who proves to be a capable fighter when facing off with a group of drunk criminals on a bus. He’s a bit too capable,...

Alongside Bob Odenkirk, Connie Nielsen will also be back for Nobody 2. The sequel’s script will be written by Derek Kolstad alongside Aaron Rabin, Bob Odenkirk and Umair Aleem.
Ilya Naishuller (Hardcore Henry) directed the first film, released in 2021. Bob Odenkirk starred as Hutch Mansell, an underestimated and overlooked dad and husband. A nobody.

Be kind, rewind: the "V/H/S" franchise will return this Halloween season, with a new line-up of talent bringing six new segments to the screen. This latest film, titled "V/H/S/Beyond," will change things up a little bit by bringing sci-fi into the horror mix. Per Variety, the film "will feature six new bloodcurdling tapes, placing horror at the forefront of a sci-fi-inspired hellscape." If that wasn't enough to get you excited, maybe the folks involved will be. Perhaps most prominent among the list of names involved with this new entry is Mike Flanagan, the modern horror master whose credits include "The Haunting of Hill House," "Doctor Sleep," "Oculus," and the most recent "The Fall of the House of Usher." Flanagan isn't directing, though — instead, he wrote a segment that will be helmed by his wife Kate Siegel, who has appeared in the majority of Flanagan's films and TV shows.

Netflix confirms a standalone sequel to the hit horror trilogy Fear Street is in development, opening the door for a potential continuation. Director Leigh Janiak had ideas for Fear Street 4 to take place in the 1950s and focus on the character of Harry Rooker, but Netflix may be taking a different direction. Chloe Okuno is rumored to direct Fear Street 4, indicating a potential shift in tone and the introduction of new characters.
Netflix confirms that Fear Street 4, a sequel to their hit horror trilogy, is officially in development. Based on the books by R.L. Director Leigh Janiak and the Netflix streaming service brought us a really fun horror event back in the summer of 2021 with the Fear Street trilogy. Three films that were filmed back-to-back-to-back and then released over the course of three weeks – those films being Fear Street Part One: 1994, Fear Street Part Two: 1978, and Fear Street Part Three: 1666. It was an instant franchise, and had the potential to lead to many more films… because, after all, author R.L. Stine has written over 100 books that have been published under the various Fear Street banners. Last year, we heard that Chloe Okuno, who recently made her feature directorial debut with the thriller Watcher, would be directing the next Fear Street movie – and there was even a rumor that she would be helming a whole trilogy of Fear Street movies, just like Janiak did. But during a recent conversation with Collider, Scott Stuber, the head of Netflix Film,...

The found-footage subgenre is not a novel concept among horror movies today. Popularized around the early-to-mid-2000s, the style has a polarizing place in pop culture, with people both praising and deriding it. Among the most popular entries though, is the V/H/S franchise, which is now in its sixth installment (with no inclination of slowing down). It’s not unusual for horror movies to spawn sequels, but it is rare for a found-footage film to find itself in the position of not only having multiple entries, but also for most of them to be received well. The secret to this could possibly lie in the format for these films because, as many horror fans will know, the V/H/S series is an anthology.
What Is the V/H/S Series?
The concept is fairly straightforward: each film will have around four entries (with four different directors), that are loosely tied together with a...

It's nothing new for horror movies to go sci-fi several sequels into a series, and the next to take the story to outer space is the found footage franchise V/H/S.
Per Fangoria, it was revealed at New York Comic-Con by Shudder that V/H/S is going out of this world for part seven of the long-running horror series. While past installments have assembled stories from different decades in a variety of different settings, it's notable that none of them have taken V/H/S to space. While full details haven't been revealed just yet about V/H/S 7, the included tales in the horror anthology sequel will all have a sci-fi, outer space focus.

Just in time for the spooky Halloween season comes another gory horror film that will shake you to the core. Aside from the very different but acclaimed film Lola, V/H/S/85 is possibly the best found footage movie of the year. Who else grew up watching '80s and '90s movies via the O.G. Vcr? The V/H/S franchise kicked off in 2012 and has spawned both sequels and spinoffs, capitalizing on the retro nostalgia of analog video. V/H/S/85 is the best one since V/H/S/94 (2021), effectively weaving in contemporary events and relentless humor (in a good way) in addition to the expected gory violence.
We recently caught up with the pair of directors whose storylines aren't just "one and done," as each resurfaces at least once during the tight duration of V/H/S/85. David Bruckner (Hellraiser) helms the framing segment, which helps keep the overall movie going, while Mike Nelson (Wrong Turn...

"Now available on video and DVD." Who else remember the days of VHS tapes and the ultimate evolution to DVD and Blu-ray? We do. Once frowned upon but now recognized as gloriously retro collector's items, VHS is an analog term the younger generations might not be too well versed in; if so, it's probably because they're familiar with the V/H/S series of horror anthology films. That critically and commercially successful franchise just added yet another entry, this time centered on the pastel-laced time period of the 1980s. V/H/S/85 is the best one since V/H/S/94 (2021), which doesn't mean much — most of these entries are pretty strong. This one in particular will be simply devoured by horror fans and found-footage fanatics. Did you know Halloween is approaching, by the way?

V/H/S/85, the latest entry in the found footage horror anthology V/H/S/ franchise, will begin streaming on Shudder service (which previously had great success with V/H/S/94 and V/H/S/99) tomorrow, October 6th. This one consists of segments that were directed by David Bruckner (Hellraiser 2022), Scott Derrickson (The Black Phone), Gigi Saul Guerrero (Bingo Hell), Natasha Kermani (Lucky), and Mike P. Nelson (the Wrong Turn reboot) – and during an interview with ComicBook.com, Derrickson revealed that his segment is set in the same universe as The Black Phone! It even includes references to some Black Phone characters…
Derrickson said, “Oh, there’s actually a universe crossover in there, which I guess I made it too subtle because nobody’s picking it up. But James Ransone tells Detective Wayne, when he’s behind the glass, he was talking about Gunther. He says, ‘He has these dreams that are prophetic.’ And he says, ‘My sister had the same gift.
