After wrapping up October with Robert Zemeckis’ hilarious dark comedy Death Becomes Her (listen), we kicked off November with a look back at Wes Craven’s classic slasher A Nightmare on Elm Street (listen). Now, we’re traveling all the way back to the ’30s to discuss Albert Ray‘s 1932 murder mystery comedy The Thirteenth Guest!
In The Thirteenth Guest, Marie Morgan (Ginger Rogers) has just turned 21 and can now accept the inheritance that her father left her when he died at a dinner party 13 years prior. That dinner party was supposed to have 13 guests in attendance, but only 12 showed up.
While Marie tries to figure out the identity of the mysteriously absent thirteenth guest, a psychopath has started killing off the other attendees of that fated dinner party, with the dead bodies being left at the table in the same seats they had originally occupied all those years ago.

Tenney’s Night of the Demons (listen), and Robert Zemeckis’ Death Becomes Her (listen), we’re ready to wrap things up with Wes Craven‘s iconic slasher entry, A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984).

The Christmas carnage on display in Terrifier 3 will continue next year thanks to Brad Miska and Brandon Hill from Cineverse, who are overseeing the newly announced reimagining of one of the most infamous holiday horror films in history: Silent Night, Deadly Night. Released in 1984 by TriStar Pictures, the horror flick featured Robert Brian Wilson in the role of Billy, a young adult who when just a child witnessed the murder of his parents by a man dressed as Santa Claus. Hes placed in an orphanage, taught that punishment is good, and grows up to become the very thing that traumatized him. The '80s were great, werent they?
Per Deadline, the reboot of Silent Night, Deadly Night is being written and directed by Mike P. Nelson, with original producers Scott Schneid and Dennis Whitehead also along for the ride. Miska and Hill will supervise things on Cineverses end, who...

A divisive Christmas horror movie from the 1980s is getting a second remake. The biggest horror remake boom occured in the 2000s, when a bevy of iconic horror titles were rebooted including Dawn of the Dead, Friday the 13th, Halloween, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, The Last House on the Left, The House on Sorority Row and more. However, remakes have been produced throughout horror history, including the prominent 1980s examples The Thing and The Blob, and the tradition has continued into the modern era with titles including 2020's The Invisible Man, 2022's Firestarter, and 2024's Salem's Lot.
Christmas horror movies are another longstanding tradition of the genre, as many filmmakers have found unique ways to blend the wholesome iconography of the season with bloody murder and mayhem, creating an unsettling juxtaposition. One of the most famous is Bob Clark's 1974 proto-slasher Black Christmas, which itself has been remade twice,...

Forty years after parents picketed outside of theaters following the release of the initial Santa slasher movie in the franchise, we’re excited to announce today that Cineverse has acquired global rights to a new Silent Night, Deadly Night film. Deadline broke the news today.
Fresh off the release of Terrifier 3, Bloody Disgusting will be producing the upcoming reboot of the franchise that will be written and directed by Mike P. Nelson and produced by Scott J. Schneid and Dennis Whitehead, executive producers of the original 1984 Tri-Star film, alongside Jamie R. Thompson.
Brandon Hill & Brad Miska (Terrifier 3) will oversee for Cineverse and will executive produce alongside Erick Opeka and Yolanda Macias.
In the original horror classic, Little Billy witnesses his parents getting killed by Santa after being warned by his senile grandpa that Santa punishes those who are naughty. Now Billy is 18 and out of the orphanage, and...

Killer Santa Claus movies have been a genre staple for over four decades, subverting the innocence of Santa by turning him into a malevolent murderer. Some killer Santa movies feature the real Santa chopping down bad guys, while others depict an evil version of Santa terrorizing anyone in his path. Many killer Santa movies add a new twist to the slasher horror genre, with lots of dead bodies and Santa tearing through with a vengeance.
Going back to Black Christmas and Halloween, holiday horror movies have remained a genre staple for well over four decades, and this includes Santa horror movies. One of the more terrifying sub-genres includes a killer Santa Claus, which gleefully subverts the childhood innocence of jolly St. Nick by turning the benevolent figure into a malevolent murderer who punishes naughty and nice behavior in equal measure. While several killer Santa Claus movies have been released over the past 50 years,...

Regardless of any perceived quality when it comes to individual entries, you have to hand it to the Silent Night, Deadly Night franchise. It kicked off with a demented killer Santa story that created immense controversy, cementing it as a piece of hallowed horror history. Since then, it has produced a series of movies that each stand out for any number of memorable reasons (my personal favorite). You can certainly argue the successful and not-so-successful elements of a Silent Night, Deadly Night entry, but it’s tough to say any one of them is “normal.” They all offer such unique quirks and oddities that it’s hard not to find them attractive from the right angles.
And Silent Night, Deadly Night 4: Initiation is the weirdest one of the bunch and so much better for it.
As a franchise entry, we do need to establish some important context. Long story short,...

1984 was a good year for slashers. Not only did Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) claw his way onto the big screen for the first time, Jason Voorhees (Ted White) also burst through windows and slashed through teens in the franchise high Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter. While Wes Craven was releasing his genre-defining classic A Nightmare on Elm Street, another iconic killer was crawling out of a snow-lined chimney. Charles E. Sellier Jr.’s Silent Night, Deadly Night treated audiences to Billy Chapman (Robert Brian Wilson), an ax-wielding mad-man dressed as a sinister Santa Claus. This exploitative film quickly sparked controversy from horrified parents worried that their children might glimpse the jolly gift-giver dishing out bloody punishment instead of holiday cheer. An avalanche of pearl-clutching soon followed, including angry letters and protests eventually resulting in Tri-star pulling the film after only a few weeks. Despite this chilly reaction, the film...

Thanksgiving director Eli Roth explains the origin of the killer's costume. The slasher killer in Thanksgiving is named John Carver after the first governor of New Plymouth Colony. The intention behind the bizarre Pilgrim costume was to symbolize the dark history of the Pilgrims and their violence towards Native Americans.
Thanksgiving director Eli Roth explains the unusual origin of the costume worn by the movie's killer. The new slasher is a feature-length project inspired by a parody trailer the director contributed to the 2007 retro-themed double feature Grindhouse. Set around Thanksgiving in Plymouth, Massachusetts, the movie follows a killer named John Carver descending upon the town while wearing a Pilgrim mask to enact bloody revenge for a horrible accident that took place on Black Friday.
Bloody Disgusting recently sat down for an interview with Roth to celebrate Thanksgiving. During their conversation, Roth explained the historical context of the slasher killer, who...

Tim Burton proved himself as a wonderfully wacky director to be reckoned with following the release of Beetlejuice, his second feature film, in 1988. It was a financial, critical, and award-winning success (having won the Academy Award for Best Makeup). On top of that, it was a career-defining role for Michael Keaton, who would go on to play Batman the following year, and it introduced most moviegoers to 17-year-old Winona Ryder for the first time.
In 2019, the campy classic reached an entirely new fan base in the form of a Tony Award-winning Broadway musical. Given this recent resurgence in popularity, it's no surprise that Beetlejuice 2 is currently in the works, with Burton, Keaton, and Ryder all lending their talents to the sequel.
Beetlejuice is stuffed with hilarious Keaton one-liners and over-the-top visual gags, but perhaps the most memorable moment from the movie is the "Day-o" dinner scene. After getting possessed...

Catalina Sandino Moreno and Harold Torres have been cast in “Silent Night,” an action-thriller starring Joel Kinnaman.
Hong Kong filmmaker John Woo (“A Better Tomorrow”) is directing the film, which is currently in production in Mexico City. The story centers on Godlock (Kinnaman), a father on a mission to avenge his young son, who was tragically caught in the crossfire of gang violence on Christmas Eve. Moreno will portray Saya, Godlock’s wife, and Torres will take on the role of the gang leader, Playa.
Robert Lynn is writing the screenplay, which contains almost no dialogue. Instead, the film will rely on the actor’s abilities to convey meaning and intention through Woo’s stylized imagery and intense action sequences.
Thunder Road Pictures and Capstone Studios are producing “Silent Night.”
“We couldn’t be happier to have the immensely talented Catalina and Harold join ‘Silent Night,’” said Capstone’s head of production,...
