The Adventures of Roman and Jorge

In the Christian life, there are things we know we should do, but we just just flat out ignore, so we don't have to do "those things". One of "those things" is being active in evangelism-sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with people who are not yet Christians.

In "The Adventures of Roman and Jorge" it is clear that evangelism can not only be scary, but also funny, exciting, and most of all, an adventure. Some Christian films make you shrug back in embarrassment for cheesy acting, but NOT this one. The humor is not forced and the acting ain't too shabby either!

I would recommend this not only for the Christian to watch to be encouraged to GO and evangelize, but also for the non-Christian who is maybe wondering why us Christians are commanded to share our faith and why exactly the Good News of the Gospel is really GOOD NEWS!

The Adventures of Roman and Jorge follow the journey of two individuals who begin living the Gospel they claim to believe by biblically sharing their faith. In doing so, these two not only face the discomfort and trials of actually sharing the gospel but also the resistance and ridicule propagated by the lukewarm attitude the modern church has developed over the years.

The documentary style setting can, at times, be confusing but from watching the 1st two episodes, the situations and dialogs in the show are truly realistic, if not word for word reenactments of my experiences when I realized the need for biblical evangelism. The same emotions and resistance felt by these two characters is very real for those who attempt to rally church to obediently share the gospel.

The show accurately communicates the gospel by asking listeners "Do you think you're a good person?" One is able to explore that question by asking themselves whether they've lied, stolen, hated, lusted, or disrespected God. No person can honestly answer that they've not broken those laws. Only after realizing ones condition before God, as a lawbreaker who is not a good person in the eyes of God, can they be able to see and understand the love communicated through Jesus Christ dying on the cross in place of sinners and defeating death by rising 3 days later. Only by repenting /turning from your sinful life style and placing your trust in Christ alone is one able receive Jesus Christ as Lord and become a Christian.

One thing I would say first is this television show is well acted and has great chemistry. I have seen Christian comedy efforts before and they look like they are trying too hard to be funny.

I wouldn't say it is completely devoid of this especially with some goofiness in the show, but it is charming. It is well written, it displays the show as being covered by news story to begin with and then goes behind the scenes of their real life.

I had an interview with the writer and actor who played Roman, Greg Elsasser on my radio show (Truth Be Told Radio), he had mentioned that some scenes including Jehovah Witnesses in an episode were based on his real life.

I think that it is so clever to have a fiction show teaching evangelism. Fiction is very powerful, since it doesn't directly point the finger at the audience, which can be good for Christians and non-Christians to learn about God and the gospel in a less antagonistic way.

I know some of the people who produce this show a little more personally so I am biased. But, this show is clean comedy and educational, it is enjoyable to watch and learn through appropriately titled "The Adventures of Roman and Jorge." A child and parent can watch this and both learn from it.

I would like there to be more shows like this on Christian television. When I first heard the idea for it. I was excited and prayed for that exact thing from God.

Whether your new to evangelism or a seasoned pro, you will enjoy this show. The first station to air it is JCTV, but prayerfully, that won't be the last!
