Contrary to what you may have heard, being a TV writer isn’t solely about the interminable daily ritual of placing, receiving and consuming each afternoon’s rigorously debated lunch order. No—there are also fantasy football teams to be managed and Nerf basketballs to be bounced from one end of the workspace to the other. That, plus the tricky business of using one’s imagination to dream up the characters, storylines and dialogue that so many millions of people around the world build their lives around, e.g. a highly demanding creative act that often requires just as much strategic distraction as it does pure artistic inspiration. And all this is even before we even get to strikes, AI and a post-Peak TV landscape where the number of shows are actually contracting for the first time this century.
So yeah—it’s a hard industry to build a career in.

Dr. Taylor Hayes is making her way back to The Bold and the Beautiful, but there's a big catch.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Krista Allen (Days of Our Lives) is set to join the cast of the daytime soap, replacing Hunter Tylo in the role.
Allen's first episode is set to air on December 10, and it sounds like there will be a lot of soapy goodness on the horizon for longtime fans!
Tylo first appeared on The Bold and the Beautiful in 1990, and the actress exited for good in 2019.
But there was no big exit for the character of Taylor. The series explained her absence by saying she was doing missionary work in another country.
That was a low-key exit for a soap. These shows tend to have outlandish twists that shake things up when you least expect them.
Still, it's nice to know we'll be checking back in with the character,...

Creatures of the night co-workers and party-crashing mutant wasps invade home media next week with Scream Factory's respective Blu-ray releases of Bloodsucking Bastards and Stung, and we have clips and trailers from both high-definition horror films.
Bloodsucking Bastards Blu-ray: "An action-packed vampire comedy in the vein of Office Space and Shaun of the Dead, Bloodsucking Bastards stars Fran Kranz (Cabin in the Woods) as Evan Sanders, a dutiful and overworked employee stuck at a soul-killing corporation with his beautiful girlfriend, Amanda (Emma Fitzpatrick, Significant Mother), and his slacker best friend Tim (Joey Kern, Beneath). Evan's world begins to crumble when Amanda dumps him and his boss, Ted (Joel Murray, God Bless America), hands his coveted promotion to his nemesis Max (Pedro Pascal, Game of Thrones). But just when Evan's convinced that life couldn't bite any harder, his office mates start going through disturbing changes… and bodies begin to pile up.

A comedy, Significant Mother was initially developed as a digital series for The CW's digital studio, CW Seed, before it was ordered for the broadcast network. Was that a good move? Will it be a hit in the ratings or a flop? Cancelled or renewed for a second season? Stay tuned.
On Significant Mother, the world of budding Portland restaurateur Nate Marlowe (Josh Zuckerman) is turned upside down when he comes back from a business trip. He finds that his lothario best friend and roommate, Jimmy Barnes (Nathaniel Buzolic), is now dating his recently separated mother, Lydia (Krista Allen).
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show's likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available -- typically the following morning,...

CW's new summer hit "Significant Mother" deserves not just your eyeballs but some award attention. After debuting on Aug.3, it has improved with every outing. In sports, it is said you make the biggest improvement from your first game to your second. With "Significant Mother," I'd say that leap happened after the second episode. All is well till Jimmy secretly starts a fling with Nate's mother Lydia (Krista Allen). How could one "best friend" do that to the other? Why would the other even allow for that? What the hell is the mother thinking!?! So many questions but it's when the show decided to push that premise to the background and focus on its characters and on the strength of its performances,...
