The film was made in 1962 under the auspices of the ailing British Lion company, but it was shelved until early 1964, like several other films made by British Lion or its subsidiary, Bryanston Films.
Harry H. Corbett who plays James Ryder tells the Peggy Mount character, Mrs. Cragg, that he used to collect rags. A funny comment because he played rag collector Harold Steptoe in Steptoe and Son (1962).
Miriam Karlin whose role was of a left-wing person, was one in real life. She was a lifelong campaigner for Jewish and left-wing political causes, as well as an anti-fascist activist.
