Apple TV+ will imminently be premiering Goldie, an all-new animated series for kids and families. Ahead of the show's launch on streaming, Cbr can unveil an exclusive sneak peek featuring the voice of the world's most beloved parodist.

Goldie is set to premiere on Apple TV+ on Valentine's Day, which is Feb. 14. Inspired by Emily Brundige's award-winning short film released in 2019, the series is described by the streamer as a "larger-than-life celebration of uniqueness and embracing your true self." Embracing classic 2D animation, Goldie tells the story of a giant young girl named Goldie, following her on her adventures in the town of Boysenberg. In Cbr's sneak peek of the show, guest star "Weird Al" Yankovic voices a robot chef with the ability to generate desired foods on command — even if it's not exactly what was asked for. How many stories of Amanda Knox do we really need? At least one more, according to Hulu, whose new eight-part series Blue Moon has begun filming in Italy, sparking backlash from the residents of Perugia, where Meredith Kercher was found murdered back in 2007. A 20-year-old Knox and her then-lover, Raffaele Sollecito, were convicted of killing Knox's roommate 17 years ago, and subsequently spent four years in an Italian prison before their release in 2011 due to shoddy police work. She was later acquitted by the Italian Supreme Court in 2015, and has since gone on to become an author and activist.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, residents of Perugia have shown up in full force to the production, displaying banners that read "Rispetto per Meredith," which translates to "Respect for Meredith." The dramatization stars Grace Van Patten (Tell Me Lies), and will air on Hulu next year, with Knox now 37 on board as an executive producer.

German kids and animation outfit Studio 100 International and Gaumont Animation are joining forces on a new animated series inspired by Rudyard Kipling’s classic The Jungle Book. The series, tentatively titled Jungle Book: Cub Club Adventures, is currently in early development and will explore Mowgli’s life before the age of 11.

Gaumont Animation, behind series such as Stillwater (Apple TV+), Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles (Netflix) and Do, Re & Mi (Amazon), and Studio 100, a subsidiary of Belgian entertainment company Studio 100 Group, and home to Maya the Bee, Vic the Viking, Heidi and Mia & Me, will be bringing the show to Cannes and the international television market MIPCOM later this month, seeking production and financing partners.

Hulu has found a new lead actress for its limited series about Amanda Knox.

Grace Van Patten (Hulu’s Tell Me Lies) will play Knox in the drama. She steps in for Margaret Qualley, who was set to star and executive produce but had to depart due to scheduling conflicts.

Knox is among the executive producers of the untitled series, which Hulu ordered in March from writer and showrunner Kj Steinberg (This Is Us). The series is based on the true story of Knox’s wrongful conviction for killing her roommate Meredith Kercher when they were studying in Italy, and Knox’s “16-year odyssey to set herself truly free,” as Hulu describes it.

Meryl Streep will receive the honorary Palme d’Or on the opening night of the 77th edition of Cannes Film Festival, Variety has learned.

Luring the Oscar winner is yet another feat for this Cannes edition, which will bring together a flurry Hollywood legends. Notably, George Lucas will receive the honorary Palme d’Or during the closing ceremony; Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis” and Paul Schrader’s “Oh, Canada” are playing in competition; and George Miller‘s “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” and Kevin Costner’s Western epic “Horizon, an American Saga” are playing out of competition. Margaret Qualley is no longer going to star in Hulu’s limited series about Amanda Knox, Variety has confirmed.

The untitled series was announced in March with Qualley set to star and executive produce. She has reportedly exited the project due to scheduling conflicts. The role will now be recast.

This is not the first time Hulu has lost its lead actress in a limited series based on a real person. Kate McKinnon was once attached to play Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes in what would become “The Dropout,” the role that was eventually played by Amanda Seyfried. Seyfried would go on to win an Emmy for her work on the show.

Hulu has ordered eight one-hour episodes of the show. The official description states that it is “based on the true story of how Knox was wrongfully convicted for the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher and her 16-year odyssey to set herself free.

Paramount+ and France Télévisions have confirmed their pact on upcoming, working-titled series Zorro starring Oscar-winning actor Jean Dujardin as the iconic masked vigilante.

The partners revealed a first image of The Artist actor Dujardin in the role in a release and said the show will launch later this year on Paramount+ before being broadcast on France Télévisions.

Paramount+ has also acquired rights for the UK, Italy, Germany and Latin America. France tv distribution is handling sales for all other territories.

News of Dujardin’s and Paramount+’s involvement in the show broke in the French media late last year but today’s release was the partners’ first official confirmation of their co-production and distribution deal.

The new show is set in 1821 and sees Don Diego de la Vega/Zorro become mayor of Los Angeles to improve his beloved city.

The 29-year-old actress will portray the 36-year-old formerly incarcerated author and activist in a Hulu limited series, via THR.

The currently untitled series is from 20th Television and The Littlefield Company, amd has been “on a fast development track” at Hulu. Kj Steinberg created the series and will serve as showrunner. Amanda and Monica Lewinsky are also among the executive producers.

Kj Steinberg serves as writer and executive producer on the series. Qualley will executive produce in addition to starring. Warren Littlefield, Lisa Harrison, Ann Johnson, and Graham Littlefield of The Littlefield Company will also executive produce along with Monica Lewinsky as well as Knox and Chris Robinson via Knox Robinson Productions. 20th Television is the studio.

This will now be the second limited series based on a real person in which Qualley will star. She previously led the Netflix series “Maid,” based on the memoir of the same name by Stephanie Land.

French director Thomas Bidegain is setting the record straight about Jake Gyllenhaal and Vanessa Kirby’s exit from his project “Suddenly.”

An interview with Bidegain that ran last week in the French magazine Technikart got international attention, with the headline “Four Days to Bury a Movie.” The interview suggested that Gyllenhaal and Kirby had left the film in the last stretch of pre-production in Iceland, which resulted in a loss of $26 million.

Film Movement will give “A Nice Jewish Boy” a home – several, in fact, as the New York-based distributor has picked up North American rights to Noé Debré’s bittersweet comedy with plans for both festival and theatrical plays later this year.

Charades’ Hélène Espeisse brokered the deal with Film Movement president Michael Rosenberg.

Written and directed by “Dheepan” and “Stillwater” screenwriter Noé Debré, “A Nice Jewish Boy” follows Bellisha – an unflappable 27-year-old naïf who shares a subsidized apartment with his ailing mother, Giselle. The pair also happen to be their working-class community’s last remaining Jews – a source of heartache, comedy, and wider questions of belonging.

The freewheeling film drew inspiration from the works of Francois Truffaut and Charlie Chaplin, Debré told Variety, engaging in equal parts with poignant and absurdist subject matters while following a daydreaming lead who can’t be knocked down.

Produced by Moonshaker, sold by Charades and making its world market premiere at this year’s Unifrance Rendez-Vous in Paris, the freewheeling film follows a 27-year-old man-child Bellisha (Michael Zindel) and his ailing mother, Giselle (Agnès Jaoui), who together make up the last remaining Jews living in a working class neighborhood that all of their friends and family have long since fled.

At first that’s just as well for the easy-going Bellisha, but health concerns, prejudice and most of all an acute sense of alienation soon begin to creep in. Below, Variety catches up with Debré at this year’s Rendez-Vous.

Anonymous Content, the management and production company that backed Oscar winner The Revenant and the upcoming season of HBO’s True Detective, is undergoing a notable round of layoffs.

The Culver City-based firm cut 8 percent of around 170 employees companywide, a source confirms to The Hollywood Reporter. Employees were notified of the layoffs on Friday.

The company, which saw CEO Dawn Olmstead and COO Heather McCauley exit in March, has yet to unveil a new leader although a source says that the firm is in the “final stages” of naming a top executive.

Emerson Collective, founded by Laurene Powell Jobs, is a minority investor in Anonymous Content, and has backed the company since its investment in 2016 when it touted a roster of 500 clients.

The brand new “Goosebumps” television series from Disney+ and Hulu will premiere on October 13, and now the show’s full official trailer has arrived this afternoon.

The two-minute trailer features callbacks to several classic Goosebumps tales, including “Welcome to Dead House,” “Say Cheese and Die!” and “The Cuckoo Clock of Doom,” and it also features an appearance from the iconic Slappy doll. Like the two live action movies we got in recent years, however, it looks like the series will not be directly adapting any of the books.

The recent revelations concerning the real life story behind The Blind Side are another in a long history of the exploitative nature inherent to the "based on a true story" genre. This is seemingly a never-ending problem. The Blind Side is both a film that is extremely trite, and as we now know, furthers a story that simply was not true. Stillwater, a film that is essentially the movie adaptation of the Amanda Knox case, was blasted by Knox herself. The issue is very clear here. To take someone's real life story, and blow it up to the big screen is a very tricky rope to walk. Ideally, you would think putting someone's life on the big screen would be for a good intention, whether that is education, inspiration, or because they're a downright fascinating person. Through watching "real life" on the big screen, we learn about something greater than a single story.

Where to Watch Powered by Oppenheimer's success breaks Matt Damon's streak of box office flops, showing that well-made original stories can still be profitable. Studiocanal has boarded “A Prophet,” a new television adaptation of Jacques Audiard’s acclaimed 2009 film. The eight-episode limited series started filming on July 3, with “Django” director Enrico Maria Artale and a diverse new cast led by Mamadou Sidibé.

The French-language series brings back the award-winning team behind the original film, including creators and writers Abdel Raouf Dafri and Nicolas Peufaillit (“The Returned”), as well as producer Marco Cherqui (“Savages”), in agreement with “A Prophet” producers Why Not Productions and Page 114.

The show, which is filming in Marseille and Puglia, Italy, is produced by Cherqui and Sebastien Janin, former Apple exec and co-founder of Media Musketeers, and co-produced by Ugc, Orange Studio, Entourage Series and Savon Noir, with the participation of Ocs. The key crew includes “Gomorra” cinematographer Ferran Paredes Rubio. Veteran Italian producer Fabio Conversi (“Youth”) is exec producing the series.

Gaumont Animation and Studio 100 Media announced on Thursday a first-look pact to co-produce and distribute animated, kids and family TV series and films around the globe.

Gaumont Animation is the producer of award-winning series including Apple TV+’s “Stillwater” and “Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles” on Amazon, while Studio 100 Media, is home to series and films such as “Maya The Bee,” “Vic the Viking,” “Heidi “and “Mia and Me.”

“We are thrilled to embark on this global partnership with Studio 100 Media,” said Terry Kalagian, president of Global Animation, Kids & Family in a statement shared with TheWrap. “By combining our strengths and leveraging our collective experience, we are poised to deliver compelling and high-quality animated content that resonates with audiences across the globe.”
