I quite enjoyed this movie. But the character playing Jack was too skinny for my taste. He almost looked emaciated. But I loved the little nods to movies such as the jewelry bit in Pretty Woman and the Mean Girls reference with Lindsay Lohan. Very clever! I actually quite like the writing. I love the camera angles they used. The sheriff could be a bit much but he and his sidekick singing were hilarious.
Jack was written really sweet. A bit of a stretch to think he learns stuff that fast.
The fake snow always leaves something to be desired. Hmmm I need 38 more characters...now 19.... I liked this movie so much I'm watching it again - right now actually!

This was a surprising find. It is based on a true story. I was actually looking for a different movie when this came up on the homepage. I was so impressed by the 'novice' acting! Dennis Quaid does tend to overdo it on the gruff, bitter old man schtick, but all the young boys were fantastic, and the man who played Omar was incredible! Nuanced, emotive, a very empathetic character. The fact that they actually filmed on the ocean was impressive. That is no small feat of cinematography. I love the whole color theme throughout the movie.(Blue and black) very evocative of the life experiences of some of these children, but reversed - black and blue. I was very impressed with the writing. I seriously cried. WELL DONE 👏 👏 👏 👏 The only reason that I did not give this a 10 is because it is a bit formulaic. But it is a feel good formula. And it works! PS watch for the very effective cameo of a popular, Breaking Bad character. This is a movie I will purchase and watch over and over by myself and with my children and grandchildren and greats.
I love this movie. I'm not a big fan of horror movies but this one rides the edge just right for me. CGI is fantastic and frightening!
And Brad is just the icing on the cake.

As a matter of personal preference, I do not watch R rated movies. I chose this movie for two reasons ; one it was a featured selection at Cannes film festival and two it was PG-13. IT IS NOT PG - 13!! There is full frontal male and female nudity. Not just for a brief flash but for full scenes. There's also a female to male rape. There is also an extended close-up of the genitals of a hermaphrodite.
It's a dystopian movie that takes place in 2085 but the dates do not add up. Nick Nolte talks about seeing a rock concert in 1975-- that would make him over 115! This could've been a really interesting movie. Well it WAS an interesting movie but the fact that they threw in those completely unnecessary nude scenes ruined it for me.

The soundtrack is fantastic. It takes what could've been a fairly average love story and really elevates it to something very very special. The chemistry between the leads looks real, the little girl is adorable and a very good little actress and all the other characters play their parts beautifully. This is a really good movie don't let bad reviews let you miss this one.
Go watch it - watch it now.

My husband and I saw this movie just the other day and we absolutely loved it!
We are pretty picky about movies we watch and had read the reviews prior to watching this one. We We even going because of the low ratings.
We were delightfully surprised to find this movie sweet and funny with very clever plot twists. The Bromance between Ryan and the rock was hilarious absolutely hilarious! Gal Gadot was gorgeous as always. The cinematography was fantastic and costuming was wonderful as well.
There were several parts that literally made us laugh out loud. The bullfighting scene was hysterical! Ryan Reynolds has perfect comedic timing. He and the rock are excellent together.
The movie ended with a pretty good set up for a sequel and I really REALLY hope that they make a sequel and they make it soon.
Go see this movie. Yes it takes plot lines from several other adventure movies but that is the brilliance of this and the humor therein.

This movie was a delightful surprise. I almost did not watch it because of the movie rating that was posted on here. I am so glad I watched this movie ! Melissa McCarthy gives a strong but nuanced performance of a woman facing incredible loss. I thought Kevin Kline did a great job as the vet/psych doctor. The guy who played Melissa's husband played his part really well because I was really getting annoyed with him! Grief is such a personal thing, this movie shows that beautifully. We all travel our journey of sadness at different speeds. I am so grateful that this movie was made. Well done, incredibly photographed, the soundtrack was perfect- not overwhelmed with some sappy soundtrack. I loved it.
On a side note; I loved that house that they lived in - that fabulous wraparound porch wow wow wow.
