Often cited as one of the best actors of all time, Sidney Poitier has an incredible filmography full of important career-defining films. His filmography is vast, and while some are considered the best of Sidney Poitier's films, others simply represent some of the most important moments in his career as an actor, director, and filmmaker. Regardless of where they fall in the timeline of his life, each film represents a notable step to becoming the legend that Poitier is known as today.

Born February 20th, 1927, Poitier appeared in over 50 films. These movies include everything from tense thrillers to softer romantic dramas, and he gave a compelling performance in each one. Mill Creek and Kit Parker have raided the Columbia vault once again in search of Noir Gold from the ‘fifties. Their selection this time around has a couple of prime gems, several straight crime thrillers and domestic jeopardy tales, and also a couple of interesting Brit imports. They aren’t really ‘Noir’ either, but they’re still unexpected and different. The top title is Don Siegel’s incomparable The Lineup, but also on board is a snappy anti-commie epic by André De Toth. “Fraulein” begins with a close-up shot of the spires of a Gothic cathedral, organ music playing on the soundtrack and air-raid sirens blaring as a statement appears on screen: “Cologne on the Rhine during the last weeks of World War II.” The scene moves down to street level as German civilians and soldiers run for bomb shelters as destruction rains down on them. An American prisoner of war makes his escape during the chaos and he stumbles upon the home of a college professor and his daughter.

Mel Ferrer plays the American Pow, Captain Foster MacLain. He meets the Fraulein of the movie, Erika Angermann, played by Dana Wynter. She helps him evade capture during a search of her father’s home. We learn about a fiancé she has not seen in over two years. She learns later from a letter that he has been wounded and is in a hospital.
