You're not going to like this movie much, when there are so many better ones. I do not like.

Another amazing Danish movie

This is one of my favorite WWI movies. It got a pretty big budget compared to most of our movies.

(We don't have as big a budget for movies/shows compared to countries like USA, Canada etc.. as far as i know at least) The movie is about a man named Esben, a Southern "Jyde" that deserted from the German Empire. The movie is very well acted, and really exciting. If you have interest in History, or just interested WWI then i highly recommend it.. Even if you just like foreign movies i'd still highly recommend giving it a try.

The movie itself is not based on a true story, but many from Southern Jylland deserted and hid in attics (possibly also other places like forests, cellars etc) to escape the horrors of war.

Love triangle and war in this good Danish-German drama

Good Danish-German-Czech drama held during World War I (and partially inside it, but most of the time in Danish lands conquered by German Empire decades before), with a nice story and characters, great art direction and cinematography, good acting, and a remarkable love triangle. Worth watching.

Trivia
The lighthouse that Esben visits while trying to flee is located off the coast of Als not far from Fynshav. From there it would have been just a short boat trip across the Lillebælt to Funen, Denmark.

Errores
On the emperor's birthday, Kirstine and Gerhard dance to «Le Cygne» by Camille Saint-Saëns. Music by a French composer is very unlikely to be played to celebrate the German emperor's birthday during WW1.
