Quick Links Robert Mitchum Was a Legendary Actor Mitchum Played an Underrated Role in Tombstone Tombstone Is a Classic Western
A few short years before his death, Robert Mitchum proved that he was still a Western movie star. It was not wholly an atypical move. At the tail end of their career, some legendary actors have taken minor roles in significant movies as they begin to phase out of Hollywood. Some brilliant stars, including John Hurt, Adam West, and Carrie Fisher, each appeared in roles for movies that would only be released after their deaths. The same was true for Mitchum, who appeared in James Dean: Race With Destiny. It was released three months before his death and was a disappointing swan song.
Still, Mitchum managed to secure one last extraordinary role before he passed. Known for starring in Western movies and film noir, the actor earned worldwide renown. He...

Secret Level is, if nothing else, one of the most unique attempts made at adapting video games to other mediums. Instead of adapting the story and characters of one game into a movie or series, it takes multiple different gaming franchises and uses each one to tell several smaller standalone stories within a single work.
Right off the bat, I respected the kind of guts it takes to try something like this, even if I wasn’t sure it was ever going to work. The show they ultimately got out of this experiment is one that sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t, but it is still admirable in its ambition.
What is Secret Level about?
Normally, this is the part of the review where I provide a brief plot summary of the movie or show in question, but that doesn’t really apply to Secret Level. It’s an anthology series,...

The executive producers of Secret Level detail how the video game anthology's Warhammer episode can exist alongside Henry Cavill's franchise. It was announced in December 2022 that Cavill would lead a movie and television adaptation of the popular Warhammer 40,000 game and serve as executive producer. But audiences will get a glimpse of another Warhammer iteration much sooner. It will be featured in an episode of Prime Video's upcoming Secret Level series, which consists of fifteen animated, standalone episodes based on video games.
In an interview with Screen Rant's Liam Crowley, ahead of the Prime Video premiere of Secret Level on December 10, series creator Tim Miller and executive producer Dave Wilson were asked if Cavill had any input on the anthology's Warhammer episode. Wilson, who is also supervising director, confirmed he does not, though Miller added that the Man of Steel actor has an open invitation. In the quote below,...

The Gangs of London will return to battle it out for control of the city's criminal underworld in 2025, and Sky and AMC+ have now released the first teaser for season 3 of the brutally-violent BAFTA-winning series.
The Gareth Evans and Matt Flannery-created crime drama has seen a spike in popularity since the first two seasons have been made available to stream on Netflix, and fans are eager to find out what happened to our main characters following the intense events of the previous batch of episodes.
In the season 2 finale, Sean Wallace and cop-turned-criminal Elliot engaged in a savage battle which culminated with the former close to death and hanging from a crane.
The season 3 teaser confirms that Sean survived (he does that), but now seems to be behind bars. As for Elliot, he appeared to lose any spark of his former self that remained following the death of his father,...

When Helldivers 2 burst onto the gaming scene at the start of the year, it seemed destined for greatness. Arrowhead’s co-op sci-fi shooter captured hearts with its blend of intense action, strategic gameplay, and a healthy dose of satirical humor. The game’s initial success had many predicting it would be a strong contender for Game of the Year.
A tale of corporate decisions and controversial mandates. | Image Credit: PlayStation/YouTube
But as The Game Awards 2024 nominations were announced, Helldivers 2 was notably absent from the coveted Game of the Year category. While the game did secure nominations for Best Ongoing Game and Best Community Support, many fans are left wondering what went wrong.
The answer lies not with the game itself, but with Sony’s controversial decisions that may have cost the title its shot at gaming’s highest honor.

The Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy was a massive success, with over 150 million copies sold worldwide. Author E.L. Nineteen forty-seven was a crucial year for Robert Mitchum’s rising star. The enduring popular classic, of course, is Jacques Tourneur’s seminal Out of the Past, and he headlined Edward Dmytryk’s Oscar-nominated prestige thriller Crossfire. It’s in Raoul Walsh’s noirish, Freudian western Pursued, though, that we see Mitchum crossing the divide between what Hollywood expected of the young man and the godlike figure they got in return.
The performance is a total menu of Mitchum’s various modes: an uneven mix of the young, beefy neurotic with a few too many shirt buttons undone; the high-riding titan who would star in Charles Laughton’s The Night of the Hunter; and the varnished-oak elder statesman who still has a few moves left in him, in Dick Richards’s Farewell, My Lovely and Peter Yates’s The Friends of Eddie Coyle. But it’s an unevenness that’s...

Well, not too long ago, Krampus was the new thing for genre filmmakers to make a holiday film about and there’s been a few decent movies on that subject – none better than the 2015 film. Last year we got a couple of great new Christmas-themed horror movies with Violent Night seeing David Harbour as Santa saving Christmas and a family and the even more original but brilliantly violent Christmas Bloody Christmas, which featured a killer robotic Santa on the loose. 2023 doesn’t seem to be the year where Christmas horror runs out of ideas because now we are getting Werewolf Santa.

Updated Friday with Stewart’s response.
Anyone wondering if Tucker Carlson is still nursing hurt feelings about the time Jon Stewart absolutely humiliated him on CNN and, almost certainly, led to his being fired by the network months later, you now have an answer. And the answer is, almost certainly.
The proof came Thursday on his Fox News show when Carlson, during a segment ranting about Stewart’s activism on behalf of veterans, started insulting the former “The Daily Show” host’s appearance in hackneyed, ableist and very personal terms.
“That’s Jon Stewart? The famous Jon Stewart? He looks like a homeless mental patient. He’s shrieking and disheveled,” Carlson said, affecting a comedic tone of voice. “And very short. Really short, too short to date. Was he always that short? What happened? Where’s he been the last 7 years? If you know, let us know. We want answers.

‘Never give up’ is a mantra we often apply to most facets of life, and rightly so. (The exception should always be watching the Witchcraft films; and one should pull that parachute early.) Jeremy Kasten’s The Attic Expeditions (2001) is a film that chased that dubious Hollywood rainbow and actually found the gold: a completed movie. Not a coherent one—by design—but completed. And it’s kind of a pip. Now Severin Films has put out this aughts curiosity with some fun extras and a solid transfer to boot. Let’s get crazy, shall we?

“Hate Is A Loaded Gun”
By Raymond Benson
The years of the 1940s following World War II exhibited a striking change in Hollywood movies. The moods and world outlooks of post-war GIs and the people they had left behind and to whom they returned were more reflective and serious. Awareness of societal ills that had always been with us were now at the forefront… and Hollywood stepped up to address this new American angst in the form of a) what film historians call “social problem films” that tackled issues such as alcoholism, drug addiction, anti-Semitism, racism, government corruption, and other hitherto taboos of motion pictures, and b) film noir, the gritty crime dramas that never sugar-coated anything and portrayed both men and women—the femmes fatale—as hard-boiled, cynical, and paranoid.
Two pictures were released in 1947 that tackled anti-Semitism with frank, hard-hitting realism.

Hollywood learns to imbed a social message into a crime thriller. John Paxton’s adaptation of Richard Brooks’ neat murder tale is solid noir because it sheds light on the malaise of returning soldiers. No parades and confetti here: Robert Ryan is the hateful bigot but the other characters live amid equally shadowy values — laid-back Robert Mitchum, unhappy bar girl Gloria Grahame. Edward Dmytryk puts a polish on a fine screenplay with a fresh viewpoint, that avoids thriller clichés.

It may have suffered a short delay – no doubt due to the game’s ridiculously large scope – but Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga already appears to be absolutely rammed with content. Featuring environments, stories and characters from all three of the franchise’s distinctly different trilogies, developer Traveller’s Tales clearly wants to make sure that no fan is left wanting when release day rolls around.
While there’s already been talk of the final total reaching a potential 500, the list of confirmed playable characters currently stands at 121. And the lineup, as of writing, is as follows:

We hope you loved listening to the Smackdown Podcast and discussing various 1947 movies this month. It means a lot when you watch, vote, listen, and share these events. Another round of applause to our returning guests Dana Delany (she previously guest-starred on "1973"), Angelica Jade Bastién (she previously guest-starred on "1941"), and the newbies, actor Patrick Vaill (Netflix's upcoming Dash & Lily) and lyricist Tom Mizer (The Marvelous Mrs Maisel S3). Dana wanted to send a note to listeners that she was sorry for accrediting the direction of To Kill a Mockingbird to Richard Brooks rather than Robert Mulligan... the names just got jumbled because it was Richard Brooks who wrote "The Brick Foxhole" which she was also discussing.
I was so into this conversation that now I have ordered a copy of "The Brick Foxhole" to understand Crossfire in a fully homosexual way. I didn't know...

Warning: Do not read this story until you have seen the final episode of “Hollywood.”
For its first six episodes, Ryan Murphy’s “Hollywood” mixed reality and fiction in its portrait of the movie business in the years after World War II. But there’s a good reason why the final episode is titled “A Hollywood Ending” – because it uses the Oscars of March 1948 to paint a picture of Hollywood growing more tolerant, more open to minorities and gays and more embracing of the kind of films that in reality were nearly impossible to make at the time or for decades later.
Like the ending of Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood,” the episode veers into a kind of wish-fulfillment fiction that is the whole point of its existence.
So we’re not really fact-checking when we look at the show’s depiction of the 20th Academy Awards ceremony.

There is a Crossfire movie on the way, based on the popular Korean video game that has amassed worldwide fans. Sony Pictures is behind the movie, working with Smilegate. The deal will establish an expected global IP in the entertainment sector.
Smilegate announced that it was partnering with Sony Pictures, one of the leading distributors in the United States, on the film adaptation of the global mega-hit game Crossfire. Tencent Pictures will co-produce and co-finance the video game movie project.
Smilegate previously signed a contract with Original Film, a film production company run by Neal Moritz who produced the Fast & Furious series, for Crossfire to be the first Korean game IP to enter Hollywood. In 2017, Smilegate completed the first script for a Crossfire film with Chuck Hogan, who is best known for writing the screenplay of Michael Bay's film 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi.

Following the success of Control, Remedy is preparing for what comes next.
Remedy, the studio behind games such as Alan Wake, Max Payne, and Control, has confirmed that they are working on three new projects, one of which is described as a live service game.
We already know that the first game is a single-player campaign for CrossFireX. If that name doesn't ring a bell, don't be surprised. The original Crossfire was an incredibly popular title in parts of Asia, but it never really made much of an impact in the West. The hope is that CrossFireX will be more of a global sensation when it debuts on Xbox One in 2020, and developer Smilegate Entertainment is certainly smart to have reached out to Remedy for assistance with the single-player portion of the game. We're excited to see what they come up with for a title that is...

One of America’s biggest radio shows is the long-running NPR news quiz “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me,” the Peter Sagal-hosted fixture with a nationwide listenership across radio, streaming, and podcast. Guest panelists riff on the week’s news stories, be they headlines that were plastered across newspapers the world over or ones relegated to the “news of the weird” corner.
Despite that show’s continued success, it’s been decades since a TV panel show in the U.S. reached that same level of quality, viewership, or place in the public consciousness. Even if you’re not a regular listener, “Wait, Wait” still exists as a shortcut — along with “This American Life” — to a certain kind of public radio programming and the listenership that keeps it afloat.
There’s still room for charismatic, inquisitive comic personalities to help build something that exists outside of any promotional cycle,...

CNN Contributor Paul Begala says he so against President Trump winning the 2020 election that he would vote for any Democratic he thought could beat him — even one who shot his dog.
“I am a JFK Democrat; I will pay any price, bear any burden, support any friend, oppose any foe to ensure the defeat of Donald J. Trump,” Begala told Chris Cuomo on his CNN program “Cuomo Primetime” on Monday. “You could be for Medicare for all or not, you could shoot my dog and if I think you could beat Trump, I’m going to be for you.”
“Well that is uh, very mainstream of you,” noted a visibly surprised Cuomo before moving on.
A rep for CNN did not immediately respond to request for comment.
Begala is a longtime Democratic strategist and a former host of the CNN show “Crossfire,” which he helmed with current Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

We answer every question you could ever have about Eric Andre Show's strangest character and his new political special.
The Eric Andre Show has often been described as a nightmare version of a talk show. To call the show unconventional or alternative is a massive understatement. The Adult Swim series is a massively surreal deconstruction of the talk show and for years it's been surprising its audience in new ways. Arguably the weirdest character from the exceptionally weird Eric Andre Show is the cheese-centric Kraft Punk, a bizarre, loathed mystery man who can never die.
In a particularly surprising move, Adult Swim announced that Kraft Punk would be getting his own half hour political special wherein his strange style mingles with Washington D.C.'s finest. The results are some of the weirdest and most interesting material to come out of The Eric Andre Show.

Things got heavy with radioactivity quickly on FBI Season 1 Episode 5! Between radioactive murder victims and Oa and Maggie risking exposures themselves, it had everything I could have wanted in an episode and then some.
What the hell kind of drill was that? Then the alarm went off for real, and they expect me just to trust that it isn't another drill?
The dead body, though, was a pretty good indication that things at this plant had gotten a bit more than real.
Maggie: Wait! Wait, I want to see her face.
Plant Owner: Don't get too close. She's radioactive.
Maggie: How did that happen?
Plant Owner: There was a problem with the fuel pools last night.
Maggie: Fuel Pools?
Permalink: Fuel Pools? Added: October 23, 2018
Wow, the guy in charge of the plant is a complete jerk. His plant is under investigation, and one of his employees is dead with their body being radioactive.

Jay-z’s Roc Nation and Participant Media have joined the eagerly anticipated TV adaptation of Malorie Blackman’s popular novel series “Noughts & Crosses” as exec producers. Roc Nation will also handle the soundtrack for the show, which is set in an alternate world where there is a ruling class of people of African descent and white people suffer discrimination and prejudice.

You might liken it to “Crossfire” for the era of President Donald Trump.
Talent agency UTA has casually pitched MSNBC and CNN the idea of a new program featuring Trump confidant Anthony Scaramucci and anti-Trump attorney Michael Avenatti, according to a person familiar with the situation. No deal has been made, this person said, and there is no guarantee the concept will come to fruition. A show could not launch until after Avenatti dispenses with current client obligations, this person cautioned, including the case he has been pursuing on behalf of adult actress Stormy Daniels.
MSNBC declined to comment. UTA declined to comment. A CNN spokesperson could not be reached for immediate comment. The nascent effort to package the two figures was reported previously by The New York Times.
The idea sounds like an update of “Crossfire,” the venerable CNN program that pit one liberal pundit (“on the left”) against...

Everyone notices the eyes first, languid, those of a somnambulist. Robert Mitchum, calm and observant, is a presence that, through passivity, enamors a viewer. His face is as effulgent as moonlight. He sits, wrapped in denim, legs spread wide, hair shiny and slick, holding a cup of coffee. His mouth is...
