La legión sin patria

I understand completely why International Squadron was made. It will seem ridiculous to watch it now, but historians who love to immerse themselves in the WWII era (like yours truly) will get it. In 1941, the United States hadn't entered the war yet, but there was still a push to support the war effort. Some men joined the foreign service early, and this film promotes them. Ronald Reagan plays a silly playboy who only joins the RAF to avoid a lawsuit of breach of promise. There are several girls who try to sue him, and he's a serial dater with no intention of settling down. The best place for him to avoid that terrible end is up in the air, and he's anxious to become a pilot. In his downtime, he goes to nightclubs and flirts with every girl in a skirt.

Like I said, it sounds silly. It feels awkward and over-the-top, and why would an entire movie be made about a fast-talking flyboy who doesn't really care about anything? To inspire those Americans, who didn't really care about the world war, to participate. If a good-looking, slick movie star who literally can't keep track of all his girlfriends finds fulfilment in something bigger than himself, then maybe fun-loving American fellows can volunteer as well - if not for the foreign service, then in the US Armed Forces. Who knows; we might enter the war soon!
