The first had a few laughs, but was basically a rip-off of "Stripes" with Bill Murray. The second film was decent, and had just enough laughs to watch for. The third was one of those Sunday afternoon flicks. The rest are absolute, slobbering, grimy, putrid trash.
The plot involves Police Chief Lassard heading off to Miami Beach to accept an award. At the airport, he accidentedly switches suitcases with jewel thieves, who want their diamonds back...
This is the excuse for laughs not even half-baked. As always, the things one laughs at are those that the writers did not intend the audience to laugh at, like the end "action" sequence involving alligators, crocodiles, or whatever those fake puppets were.
I don't know how the "Police Academy" series ever got any more productions after the second or third film, but they did. Perhaps, in a sick, demented way, it's for the better. It ruined Steve Guttenberg's career, and gave all aspiring comedy writers something to "not do" when writing a comedy.
1/5 stars--

Steve Guttenberg being out of the series definitely made a difference and a lot of the gimmicks that made the original work were not present in this one. Part of the problem is that it went from being raucous adult comedy to a silly kid's comedy. None of the dirty humor is there anymore and that is sad. Stick with the first three those are very funny.
Overall I'd say this is still a watchable film for fans, but it's as far as you need to go with Police Academy.

- TriviaSteve Guttenberg turned down the lead role for this and all other sequels in the original Police Academy septology. Two decades later, Guttenberg expressed his regret at turning down the later sequels, and was among the main people trying to make another Police Academy movie.
- Errores(at around 1h 21 mins) In the final chase scene, Nick and Kate both duck as Tony's boat approaches them. In the next shot, Nick and Kate are seen sitting upright while Tony's boat is making the jump.

Capt. Thaddeus Harris: Some dickhead is standing in my sun!
Sgt. Nick Lassard: Oh, Captain Harris! Hey, I didn't see you there. You know, I don't think we've been introduced. My name is Nick...
Capt. Thaddeus Harris: I don't care who you are, buttwipe. Just get out of my sun!
Sgt. Nick Lassard: Buttwipe?
Capt. Thaddeus Harris: Scram, sleazeball!
Sgt. Nick Lassard: Okay, fine.
[Leaves]
Sgt. Nick Lassard: Buttwipe, huh? Never heard that before.
Lt. Proctor: That was great, Sir!
Capt. Thaddeus Harris: Proctor?
Lt. Proctor: Yes, Sir?
Capt. Thaddeus Harris: Now you're in my sun.
- Versiones alternativasOn Network TV versions of the film, 2 scenes are added to fill time. One scene had Captain Harris and Lieutenant Proctor arriving at the hotel in Miami with a goat they had on their airplane. One scene occurs in the Police showcase area where people are trying out various items such as pepper spray, handcuffs, and bulletproof car shields; Tony is seen talking to a friend of his named Larry. He tries to get Larry to talk Commandant Lassard into giving him the camera with the stolen diamonds in it by telling him a story of how his dead wife had a camera just like the one Lassard's carrying. Feeling pity for him, Lassard is about to hand Larry the camera until Larry asks "is there anything I could do for you in return". Lassard says yes and has Larry take an official Police fingerprint identification test. Larry's discovered to be "a known felon" and he runs off without the camera. Tony and his goons walk casually away followed by Tony getting upset and hitting a police car shield with his hand and hurting it.
