Before I made my way to writing about Hollywood full time, in my twenties I toiled in the publicity bullpen at United Artists in Manhattan’s tenderloin district, was a press agent at Pmk New York, was unit publicist on John Carpenter’s “Halloween III: Season of the Witch” and James L. Brooks’ “Terms of Endearment,” and served as publicity manager at Twentieth Century Fox in Century City. I sat around the table at countless marketing meetings, wrote press releases, screening invites, and press kits, wrangled celebrities and photographers at glitzy premieres, and participated on release and Oscar campaigns.
By the time I jumped to the other side as Risky Business columnist at LA Weekly; movie beat reporter at Entertainment Weekly; West Coast Editor of Film Comment, Empire, and Premiere; and senior writer at The Hollywood Reporter and Variety, I was steeped in insider knowledge and sources. And...

Seth Rogen. Catherine O'Hara. Kathryn Hahn. Ike Barinholtz.
It's an intimidating cast list, to be sure — and that's before you even get to the guest stars of Apple TV+'s The Studio, which reads like something out of a Hollywood Rolodex, if those still existed.
So it's perfectly understandable that Chase Sui Wonders, who plays career-hungry assistant-turned-executive Quinn, was "petrified," as she puts it, her first day on set. "Being surrounded by all of these comedy legends is a dream," she says. "But Seth and Evan and all the actors involved are really warm and welcoming, which is not necessarily the case for a room full of comedians trying to be really funny. They all want you to crush."
And crush she did — in fact, that first day had her filming the show's fifth episode, "The War," which pits her against Barinholtz's Sal Saperstein in an all-out, no-holds-barred battle to...

After months of hype and some of the year’s best reviews, audiences can now watch The Studio. The 10-episode comedy series that lampoons Hollywood while embracing the people who try to make successful art amid the compromises of commerce debuted on Apple TV+ on Wednesday and should find itself among the year’s top Emmy contenders. Created by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, as well as Peter Huyck and Alex Gregory (Veep), and Frida Perez, and directed by Rogen and Goldberg, The Studio stars Rogen as the newly installed president at a struggling legacy studio. “I got into all this because I love movies. But now I have this fear that my job is to ruin them,” Rogen’s character, Matt Remick, says in the show’s sharp pilot episode (streaming now). Throughout the 10 episodes, Remick tries to balance his love for movies with the realities of his position,...

Kevin Costner and Elijah Wood are two of Hollywood's most dynamic and celebrated performers, with the talented duo joining forces in 1994 to headline the poignant coming-of-age drama The War, a thought-provoking film that focuses on a Vietnam War veteran who returns to his home and family in Mississippi and struggles to overcome his crippling Ptsd and war trauma. Wood appears as Costner's headstrong son, who undergoes a major transformation himself as he tries to find meaning and purpose outside of his dreary household by building his own sanctuary in the form of a treehouse in the forest.
Though The War ultimately proved to be a box office dud and attracted underwhelming reviews from critics, moviegoers appreciated the wholesome chemistry between Costner and Wood, with many raving about the younger star's vulnerable performance and the endearing father/son bond the two shared. The little-known drama served as a major stepping stone...

Hollywood satirizing itself always brings with it a strangely ouroboric connotation—an excruciating, try-hard attempt to make themselves cooler by lampooning themselves in front of their audience. To a certain extent, the lampooning could work if the media exploring said sentiment has a discerning point. The Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg-created show The Studio (Season 1) seems to be vacillating between two entirely conflicting points.
As the show begins, we are introduced to Matt Remmick (Bryan Cranston), who is appointed the head of flailing Continental Studios by its new owner Griffin Mill (Bryan Cranston), who also gives him his first mission statement—to revive the IP of Kool-Aid by producing a movie akin to the success of “Barbie,” which would put Continental Studios on the map. This year’s Grammy week will be looking a little different, as the show will take place shortly after Los Angeles was devastated by wildfires in the Pacific Palisades and Altadena. Music’s biggest night will mark the first awards show to take place in L.A. since the tragedy began on Jan. 7, and many of the typical Grammy events have been canceled as the usual players — including Spotify and the major labels — redirect resources to aid wildfire relief efforts.
However, a handful of events will carry on with a charitable component, including the starry Clive Davis party and MusiCares tribute concert. Check out this year’s still-on Grammys celebrations below.

Craig Finn, longtime frontman of The Hold Steady, has announced Always Been, his sixth studio album set for release on April 4th. He’s also shared a new song, “People of Substance.”
Always Been was produced by Adam Granduciel of The War on Drugs, and features guest vocals from Kathleen Edwards and Sam Fender. Various members of The War on Drugs also play on the album, which was produced in Granduciel’s Burbank, California studio.
“I believe this to be the most narrative record I have made,” Craig Finn said in a statement. “Most songs concern a protagonist who pursued a career as a clergyman despite a lack of faith. The record tells the story of his rise and fall and redemption, while also filling out the details of his travels and the world in which he lives. I am very proud of what we made, I hope you enjoy.

At a recent Aventura concert in the Dominican Republic, one woman fulfilled her dream of kissing singer Romeo Santos… but it came at the cost of her marriage.
In videos of the viral moment, the fan — named Miriam Cruz — can be seen hopping onto the stage and greeting each member of the bachata group, giving an extended kiss to Santos. The crowd responded with applause, and Cruz sat beside her celebrity crush with her hand on his lap for a bit, as the band performed their song “La Guerra.”
Cruz’s husband of 10 years wasn’t present at the concert, but evidently, footage of the kiss made its way to him soon enough, and the couple has since separated. In a now-deleted social media statement, Cruz wrote, “I have to acknowledge that this achievement came at a very high cost: the breakup of my 10-year marriage.”

Sun pours through the lush foliage of a jungle, bleaching the pale limestone as a rotting man stands in the center of an otherwise empty arena, his yellow eyes leering from beneath a fringe of limp, blonde hair. Positioned around the edge are a hundred bodies, Orcs and Trolls and bipedal oxen shouting, demanding, the death of the dishonorable. Their voices swell into a cacophony of noise before one rings out above the rest, howling, “Kill the cheater and you’ll get 20 gold!” There is silence, and then another frenzy.

Following the foundational improvements Dragonflight made to World of Warcraft, The War Within needed something to contribute to the lasting success of the game. Delves were that addition, providing a highly flexible form of content directed at solo players. Delves were supported by Blizzard as being a new pillar of end-game content, filling a hole in the range of options players can choose from at max level.
With more delves on the way in Undermined, The War Within's 11.1 content patch, it's safe to say that Blizzard is standing by the addition. Right now, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is playing in theaters. This marks the first time in a decade that a new Lord of the Rings movie has graced the big screen, and for fans of Middle-earth, it's a fun way to visit their favorite fantasy world for the holidays.

The Lord Of The Rings: The War Of The Rohirrim has debuted to $4.6 million at the box office, according to a recent report by Variety. However, it was revealed that the film’s performance in the box office was not Warner Bros.’ primary focus.
The anime film, which was produced on a $30 million budget, was developed and rushed into production primarily to safeguard New Line Cinema’s rights to adapt J. R. R. Tolkien’s works.
The studio has held these rights through a licensing agreement with Zaentz Co. since the late 1990s. Though the specific terms of the contract are not public, it is believed that Warner Bros. is required to maintain active development and production of Tolkien-related projects to retain the rights.
In early 2022, Zaentz Co., which controls a portfolio of Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit rights, reportedly began exploring a sale of its Tolkien holdings.

Who knew that everything old would officially become new again in Middle-earth? Although the main appeal of "The War of the Rohirrim" has always been the idea of getting to know a whole new cast of characters to root for and against, we've known that a familiar face or two from the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy would be coming along for the ride in this particular story. “Not Fade Away” closed out the Kennedy Center Honors ceremony Sunday, just as honorees The Grateful Dead had used Buddy Holly’s ode to enduring love to close out hundreds of concerts over the years.
The packed house danced in the aisles to the bouncy beat after a night of honoring the Dead and other recipients of the lifetime achievement award for artistic accomplishment: director Francis Ford Coppola, jazz trumpeter Arturo Sandoval and singer-songwriter Bonnie Raitt. The venerable Harlem theater The Apollo, which has launched generations of Black artists, also was recognized.
Longtime Deadheads, including actors Miles Teller and Chloe Sevigny and talk show host David Letterman, paid tribute to the band’s blend of musical experimentation, longevity and community building. “Their music fills the universe,” Letterman proclaimed.
The choice to honor The Apollo was an unusual one — the first time the Kennedy Center has chosen to honor a specific performance venue.

Thursday, November 28th featured the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Today hosts Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb were there to cover the action as it happened live. This year’s parade featured marching bands, floats, performers, and musical displays. Paradegoers had to battle the elements to enjoy this annual tradition. However, not everything went according to plan this year. Thankfully Savannah and Hoda were there to cover.
Macy’s Parade Botched Moment
This year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade featured a hand-made children’s carousel created from a huge Vermont White Spruce Christmas tree. The exhibit encountered a problem when The War and Treaty’s music did not start for their presentation. Hoda Kotb stepped up beautifully describing the display instead. She said:
“Rockin around the three-story tall Vermont White Spruce Christmas tree is a hand-crafted children’s carousel and with a gorgeous array of some of their 40 different true-to-life trees.

Martha Stewart has not been shy about her criticisms of R.J. Cutler's new Netflix documentary about her, Martha. Kevin Costner has been a Hollywood stalwart for over four decades. In that time, he has featured in some of the industry's biggest hits, including fan favorites like Field of Dreams and award winners such as Dances With Wolves. However, while these movies and others like them constitute some high-profile successes for Costner, his involvement hasn't always guaranteed a good return.
While Kevin Costner's career has had multiple highs, there have also been lows. Prominent examples include notorious bombs like Waterworld and The Postman, but even more recent projects have fluctuated between box office and critical acclaim and mediocrity. Examples like Horizon prove how fickle fortunes can be in the filmmaking business. However, while almost every actor has their share of failures, something about Costner's disappointments stands out. As demonstrated by the actor's worst-reviewed film of all time, the 2002 thriller Dragonfly, even when his movies underwhelm, they often prove surprisingly popular with viewers.

World of Warcraft's expansion, The War Within, introduces a new side activity called Major Excavations. Major Excavations debuted as a part of patch 11.0.7, released on October 31, 2024, ahead of the game's 20th anniversary the following month. In these quests, players can donate resources to a series of treasure hunting expeditions throughout Siren Isle. Players can choose between one of three factions, each of which unlocks a different dungeon, and grants them different rewards.
Major Excavations can be somewhat confusing to players who have never participated in them before, especially because of their variable nature. Here's everything to know about how Major Excavations work in World of Warcraft.

World of Warcraft: The War Within expansion was amazing on many fronts, but it could have been better if this race took the Earthen's spot as the new Allied Race. This latest expansion was a huge step for the hit Mmorpg and the beginning of their World Soul saga. It introduced an exciting new island to explore while bringing along numerous class changes and cool new mounts to The War Within.
One of the more debated additions of The War Within was the new Earthen Allied Race. They were created by the Titans and some later evolved into the Dwarfs players are used to today. They bring a more monotone and robotic attitude to Azeroth while being able to play nine of the current classes. However, the big question around them is whether the Mmo needs a third playable Dwarf race.

There are so many things about World of Warcraft: The War Within expansion that are worthy of praise, particularly for players like myself who enjoy playing the game mostly solo. Of course, any Mmorpg is meant to be played multiplayer, but several negative situations over the years have left me preferring to do my own thing wherever possible. The War Within feels as though it is specifically catering to me in this respect, with numerous ways to explore the content of the expansion without social anxiety.
I am one of those people who have played World of Warcraft since its beginning 20 years ago. Over that time, I have been in different guilds, joined pick-up groups, convinced friends and family to play with me for a while, and generally just attempted to find ways to see all that the game had to offer in its multiplayer forms. Lucius have joined forces with The War on Drugs frontman Adam Granduciel for their new song “Old Tape.” They’ve also shared a video for the track, which features comedian, actor, and musician Fred Armisen.
The song arrives as a standalone single ahead of Lucius’ tour opening for The War on Drugs and The National, which kicks off on the East Coast in early September (get tickets here). Built on a quick tempo and some signature yearning guitar from Granduciel, “Old Tape” is a towering, anthemic offering from Lucius. “And once in a while/ you turn up the dial/ to an old tape playing in my head,” Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig sing in unison, before belting “I’ll tune it out and live instead.”
