As Tom Cruise gears up for his possible final outing in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, fans of the actor should not worry as he will be starring in another upcoming movie from director Alejandro G. Iñárritu. What’s more exciting is that he will be joined by House of the Dragon star Emma D’Arcy.
This will be Cruise’s first movie in years that might give him the chance to compete for the Oscars Best Actor award. The last time he was nominated for the category was way back in 1997. This will also be D’Arcy’s latest project after her stint in the famed HBO series.

A couple weeks after making its mark at CinemaCon with footage that was described as being “batshit insane,” Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have officially kicked off the marketing campaign for director Zach Cregger’s (Barbarian) Weapons with a mysterious image.
This first look teaser image for the upcoming “horror epic” – which has been compared to Paul Thomas Anderson’s Magnolia – is a simple photo of an alarm clock set to 2:17am, which is an important time in the world of Cregger’s Weapons. That’s precisely when every kid in town wakes up, gets out of bed, walks outside in the dark and never comes back home.
And that’s really all we know about Weapons at this time, which will be released by New Line in theaters on August 8. Check out the teaser image below and expect more very soon.

More than two decades ago, Tom Cruise portrayed a role that will immediately make you think of Andrew Tate—yes, the misogynist influencer who recently got into another controversy after allegedly pointing a gun at a woman’s face.
So, the veteran Hollywood star played the supporting role of Frank T.J. Mackey in 1999’s Magnolia, a classic movie helmed by none other than Paul Thomas Anderson. His speech, which reeked of toxic masculinity and misogyny, was a scene that earned him a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the Academy Awards.

Horror fans have been clamouring for some details for Barbarian director Zack Cregger's mysterious second feature, Weapons, and we finally have some idea of what to expect following a screening of the first trailer at CinemaCon.
Up until now, the only information we've been given about the movie is that it was developed as “a multi and inter-related story horror epic that tonally is in the vein of Magnolia, the 1999 actor-crammed showcase from filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson.”
Per Variety, the movie stars The Fantastic Four: First Steps' Julia Garner as an elementary school teacher who arrives at work one morning to discover that every single member of her class is missing. The trailer continues with a child's voiceover telling us that, "Mrs. Gandy’s room was totally empty. Because the night before, at 2.17 am, every kid woke up, got out of bed, walked downstairs and into the dark, and they never came back.

So far, plot details have been tightly guarded for writer-director Zach Cregger‘s mysterious follow-up to Barbarian, Weapons. That is, until now. New footage was previewed tonight at CinemaCon, reported by Variety, revealing new story clues.
New Line Cinema will release Weapons in theaters August 8, 2025.
Interestingly, the only information we’ve had for Weapons was the description that Cregger’s latest is “a multi and inter-related story horror epic that tonally is in the vein of Magnolia, the 1999 actor-crammed showcase from filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson.” An unexpected reference for a horror movie.
Variety described the reel shown to the CinemaCon crowd, indicating something in the vein of Children of the Corn, with Wolf Man‘s Julia Garner starring as an elementary school teacher who arrives to work one morning only to find her entire class of kids went missing the night before.
“Because the night before, at 2:17 a.m.

We haven’t heard much about Zach Cregger’s follow-up to “Barbarian” until now. Cregger was on hand at CinemaCon to tease “Weapons,” which New Line Cinema chief Richard Brenner described as “batshit insane.”
The studio is clearly high on “Weapons,” having moved it up from a planned release in January 2026 to now opening August 8, 2025. We can see why. Cregger declined to give any spoilers, but the first look (which he added will likely never make its way to the public) did go deeper on some specifics than has been public in the past.
The teaser showed Julia Garner as a teacher whose entire classroom of kids goes missing — but only her classroom. A child narrating the trailer describes how every kid at “2:17 in the morning woke up, went down the stairs, walked out the door, and never came back.” Josh Brolin appears as a furious parent in a...

New Line unwrapped a sneak peek at Weapons in Las Vegas on Tuesday.
During the Warner Bros. studio presentation at CinemaCon, the division dedicated part of its time in the spotlight inside the Colosseum at Caesars Palace to showing off the highly-anticipated horror film from Zach Cregger. The genre pic stars Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, June Diane Raphael, Austin Abrams, Benedict Wong, Alden Ehrenreich and Amy Madigan, among others.
Cregger did the honors himself by coming to the stage but keeping his comments brief due to the spoiler nature of his “twisty and turny” movie. “The material we’re going to show is the tip of the iceberg,” said the filmmaker, adding that the script reinvents itself and unravels as it goes. He also made sure to mention that the teaser that played for CinemaCon attendees was exclusive and likely to not ever been seen by the public.

Warner Bros. has plenty of horror offerings on its slate and showcased a few of them during its presentation at CinemaCon, including Maggie Gyllenhaalʼs The Bride.
Audiences were treated to a teaser trailer for The Bride, which star Jessie Buckley (who plays the titular character) described as “the punkest love that’s ever existed.” Think Bonnie and Clyde, Wild at Heart, Sid & Nancy, and Natural Born Killers. The teaser finds Buckley’s character being horrifically murdered, but she’s later reanimated and meets Christian Bale as Frankenstein’s monster. The pair set out to avenge her murder and become fugitives.
Gyllenhaal said she was looking for something “pop and big” and “radical” for her next project. She encountered a man at a party with a Bride of Frankenstein tattoo on his arm. “It hooked me and I went home and watched the movie,” she said. “The bride is in the...

The quest for a pitch-perfect filmography is something that movie fans have seen countless directors strive for. Quentin Tarantino is the most infamous example, as his refusal to make more than 10 films dominated the headlines and enraged audiences. He isn't the only perfectionist of the bunch, however, as many modern directors are notoriously picky and methodical about the projects they choose. One notable member of this slow and savvy club is the great Paul Thomas Anderson, who has only released nine feature films across his 29-year directorial career.
Regardless of his snail's pace output, Anderson consistently delivers immersive, sprawling experiences that please audiences and critics alike. Whether he's making epic dramas, dense romantic comedies, crime films, or scathing pseudo-westerns, his releases never seem to disappoint. The teaser for Anderson's latest Leonardo DiCaprio-led film dropped this past week, and it has already made waves, with many fans saying it looks...

Three months into 2025, it's fair to say that the movie business is in a bad, bad way. As of last week, films have only generated $1.34 billion, which is a 7% drop from this time last year. This poor start has been compounded by a string of big-budget flops and dire underperformers like Bong Joon Ho's "Parasite" follow-up "Mickey 17," Marvel Studios' "Captain America: Brave New World," and Disney's live-action remake of "Snow White." The failure of Director Bong's film is especially troubling given that it was essentially an original as far as moviegoers were concerned (the novel it was based on was not widely read), which brought out the anti-art contingent of the industry who'd rather imagine themselves as a savvy studio chief instead of a risk-taking auteur. Though "Mickey 17" was not as rapturously received as "Parasite," even its detractors had to admit that it was shot through with...

Back in the 1880s, magician Jean Eugène Robert-Houdin used to stun his audiences with a trick he called “The Marvelous Orange Tree.” It was all very complicated, but, in the end, resulted in a lady’s handkerchief bursting out of the titular plant, held aloft by butterflies. There’s also fire involved. “The Marvelous Orange Tree” is the title of the last track on the latest (and best) album from endlessly inventive metal band Deafheaven, and it perfectly sums up their magic-trick mix of raw aggression, painterly lyrics, and earworm melodies.

On Thursday, Warner Bros. released the first trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson’s new film One Battle After Another starring Leonardo DiCaprio. The movie is the first that Anderson has made with DiCaprio. Still, it is not the first project Anderson has done with a member of DiCaprio’s family. The Oscar-winning actor’s father, George DiCaprio, appeared in Licorice Pizza. Anderson also originally wanted DiCaprio to star as Dirk Diggler in Boogie Nights.
As revealed in the new trailer — which dropped a week after Warner Bros. officially dated One Battle After Another for the fall — the film is heavily inspired by Thomas Pynchon’s 1990 novel Vineland. DiCaprio stars as Bob Ferguson, a dishelved counter-culture radical on a quest to find his missing daughter (Presumed Innocent star Chase Infiniti), who was abducted by a conservative military figure named Steve Lockjaw (Oscar-winner...

Warner Bros. has released an official trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another. This comes after the studio released a teaser trailer for the upcoming Leonardo DiCaprio crime thriller last week.
One Battle After Another is inspired by Thomas Pynchon's 1990 novel Vineland, making this Anderson's second adaptation of the author's work after Inherent Vice, the 2014 movie based on the eponymous 2009 novel. The upcoming crime thriller is notable for being the first time that DiCaprio has worked with Anderson, the acclaimed filmmaker behind Boogie Nights (1997), Magnolia (1999), There Will Be Blood (2007), Phantom Thread (2017), and Licorice Pizza (2021). One Battle After Another also stars Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Chase Infiniti, Alana Haim, and Shayna McHayle.

Described as something of a horror epic and compared to Paul Thomas Anderson’s Magnolia, the upcoming Weapons from director Zach Cregger (Barbarian) is one of the most intriguing new horror releases here in 2025, in large part because we really know nothing about the film at this time. Burt Reynolds achieved feature-film stardom and a large measure of credibility with his powerful dramatic performance in the 1972 thriller film Deliverance. Reynolds’ charm and sex appeal were effectively showcased throughout the rest of the decade in films like Hooper, The Longest Yard, Smokey and the Bandit, and Starting Over, which pleased audiences and critics alike while establishing Reynolds as an immensely likable star who was equally adept at action and comedy.
However, in the early 1980s, the good-old-boy image that led Reynolds to be voted Hollywood’s top box-office draw for a record five consecutive years between 1978 and 1982 reached a point of diminishing returns. His unsuccessful pairing with Clint Eastwood in the 1984 action film City Heat marked a precipice in his career from which he never regained his former star power. In the late 1980s, Reynolds made an ignominious return to television, where his career began in the early 1960s.

The highly-anticipated reboot of Resident Evil from Barbarian director Zach Cregger may have its lead actor, and he's already well-versed in the realm of zombies and horror. Deadline reports that Austin Abrams is in early talks to join the Resident Evil cast. No word on what role he'll be playing, if it will be an established character in the franchise or a new invention from Cregger and co-screenwriter Shay Hatten.
In addition to appearing in Wolfs with Brad Pitt and George Clooney and starring in Euphoria as Ethan Lewis, Abrams played Ron Anderson in nine episodes of The Walking Dead's fifth and sixth seasons. The complex young character became an antagonist for Rick Grimes and his gang during their time in the Alexandria Safe Zone. Abrams also appeared in Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, so his horror credits are already robust.

Warner Bros. Paul Thomas Anderson is one of those filmmakers from whom you largely expect greatness – but beyond that, you never quite know what you’re getting. A sprawling tapestry of tales like Magnolia? The thunderous (and darkly comic) brooding intensity of There Will Be Blood? The intoxicating bad romance of Phantom Thread? Last time, he brought big hangout vibes to Licorice Pizza. His latest, One Battle After Another, seems to be another total pivot, going by its first teaser. This one seems to be a return to dark and dangerous territory, with Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead. Watch the teaser:

Being moved up suggests that the studio is very confident in the movie, which is directed by Zach Cregger, who previously helmed the hit 2022 horror film Barbarian. The story of Weapons will follow an ensemble who reacts to the mysterious disappearances of multiple children in a small town. In addition to Brolin, the cast of the movie includes Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, and Benedict Wong.
According to Warner Bros., the studio has switched Weapons' release date from January 16, 2026 to August 8, 2025. It has taken the release date that was originally planned for Paul Thomas Anderson's next movie, titled One Battle After Another, which will now release in September. In addition to these moves, Warner Bros. also made several other release date changes, which are as follows:

Several major movies have suffered release date delays, including Oscar-winner and Hollywood icon Leonardo DiCaprio’s upcoming mysterious crime thriller. Set to be helmed by Academy Award nominee Paul Thomas Anderson, the project has now been pushed back from August 8 to September 26, while Maggie Gyllenhaal’s Frankenstein musical The Bride! faces an even greater delay, moving from September to March 6, 2026.
But, in some good news, while DiCaprio’s latest venture and The Bride! have been pushed back, Barbarian director Zach Cregger’s upcoming horror epic Weapons starring Josh Brolin and Julia Garner has been pulled forward. Originally set for release in January 2026, Weapons will now take the August 8, 2025, slot left by DiCaprio.
As per a report by Variety, Warner Bros. has likely delayed these tentpole projects “as the studio helps outfit U.S. movie theaters with VistaVision projection systems to accommodate their director’s vision,” insiders claim. It’s also...

Tom Cruise is one of Hollywood’s most beloved actors. He has drawn attention to himself due to his action-packed roles and interest in doing his own stunts, no matter how absurd and dangerous they might get—from hanging from a flying plane, jumping a bike off a cliff, and taking a huge leap from one building to another, which even broke his foot.
Despite the dangers, he has not backed away from adding authenticity to his films. Due to this quality, he has become the symbol of great cinema. If he is acting in a movie, viewers consider it a must-watch, expecting top-tier performances and thrilling stories.
He gained a lot of fame after his role in Tony Scott’s film Top Gun (1986), and since then, he has gained a reputation for acting in action-packed movies. However, there are a lot of great underrated movies that have flown under the audience’s radar,...

It’s been a long wait — made longer after missing the typical midnight release time for a new album — but after more than four years, Playboi Carti has finally dropped his latest album.
The new album, simply titled Music, is Carti’s third album overall and his first since dropping Whole Lotta Red on Christmas Day back in 2020. The album is lengthy, clocking at an hour and 17 minutes with 30 songs, and it’s particularly star-studded with guest features from The Weeknd, Travis Scott, Future, Young Thug, Lil Uzi Vert and Young Thug and Kendrick Lamar.
Kanye West didn’t seem to be a fan of that latter feature, with the rapper dissing Lamar’s verse on Friday, posting on his X account that “I Dont Like Kendrick Lamars Music.”

The next Resident Evil film is coming in September 2026 it’s now been confirmed, with Zach Cregger directing. More here.
Ever since Barbarian released in 2022 and announced director Zach Cregger as a bold new name in the horror genre, we’ve been waiting patiently for his next film.
That next film is still set to be Weapons, a horror ‘opus’. But it now sounds as though we might well be getting two films from Cregger in the same year, with news emerging that his spin on the survival horror videogame series Resident Evil will release in September of 2026.
It was last September that we first covered reports that Cregger had signed up to tackle Resident Evil, with Sony backing the project after the filmmaker declined to continue developing a remake of Clue with the studio. That agreement is now official, with Sony even publicly dating the film, per Deadline.

Bong Joon-ho is a one of a kind.
He’s only made 8 films in the past 25 years, but each feature is a precious jewel, expertly chiseled and finely shined. There are a handful of thematic and narrative obsessions that he cleverly reworks throughout his films — the injustices associated with Capitalism, the transformative power of trauma, the importance of communication, animal rights – each time revealing new layers and finding new angles. These are beautiful, powerful, funny, wildly entertaining films. They are endlessly rewatchable and always break new ground. His 2019 feature “Parasite” was the first South Korean movie to ever be nominated for an Academy Award; it wound up winning four Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best International Feature Film.
His latest, “Mickey 17,” is one of his best. It’s a searing satire, a sci-fi extravaganza and a deeply empathetic character study (it just so happens that the character...

Is there a kernel of truth to the notion that "popcorn stars" don't win Oscars? It certainly felt that way to fans hoping to see Demi Moore pull off a Best Actress victory at the 2025 Oscars. Her daring performance as Elisabeth Sparkle in The Substance had earned her a Golden Globe, Critics Choice, and SAG Award, putting her in frontrunner position as she arrived at the 97th Academy Awards on March 2. But suddenly, those hopes were dashed when Emma Stone read out the winner: Mikey Madison in Anora.
It wasn't unfamiliar to see one of the biggest box-office draws from decades past lose the big one. Perhaps the Academy couldn't see past what Moore had once been told she was — a popcorn actress. She addressed the demeaning title in her Golden Globes acceptance speech nearly two months prior, stating that a producer called her a “popcorn actress” 30 years ago, which...

Deafheaven have released the new song “Heathen,” the second single from their upcoming album, Lonely People with Power, arriving March 28th.
The genre-bending track runs the gamut for Deafheaven, opening with majestic guitar arpeggios and clean singing from frontman George Clarke, a la the band’s last album Infinite Granite. These majestic moments are broken up with metallic blasts that feature harsh vocals, though the overall aggression has been toned down as compared to the full-on black metal of the previous lead single “Magnolia.”

A niche streaming service made for indie film lovers who crave something different.
Back when I was at USC Film School, I got a crash course in indie cinema. While everyone else was obsessing over the latest blockbusters, I was sitting in screenings of microbudget dramas, foreign gems, and documentaries that stuck with me way longer than any superhero movie ever could. That appreciation for indie films never left (“Run Lola Run” anyone?), which is why Magnolia Selects is such a great find. This niche streaming service is all about independent filmmaking, curating a lineup of award-winning dramas, interesting (and entertaining) documentaries, and under-the-radar gems you won’t find on the big streamers. If you love cinema that takes risks, tells bold stories, and champions unique voices, Magnolia Selects is worth checking out. Here’s everything you need to know.

When a grieving neuroscientist uses AI technology that allows her to reconnect with her dead father, she finds herself surfing waves of emotion and questioning life itself. It has been 12 years since Henry Cavill first debuted as the Man of Steel but the fans loyal to Zack Snyder and his grimdark vision of the DC universe have still been unable to move past the actor’s version of Superman. Those faithful to Cavill, in the meanwhile, have taken his entire career into account and not only rendered him the best Superman but also one of the best actors working in Hollywood right now.

Tom Cruise’s career in film has always possessed an X-factor, with the actor himself overflowing with on-screen pizzazz. The certified action star of the 21st century was made for the big screens, and rightfully so, given his success with the Mission: Impossible franchise. However, Cruise wasn’t always this starved for adrenaline-packed action spy thrillers.

For 20 years since his debut, Tom Cruise was an actor’s actor. In that time, he earned 3 Oscar nominations for his roles in Born on the Fourth of July, Jerry Maguire, and Magnolia. It took him another 23 years to earn the fourth Oscar nomination, and that too as a producer for Top Gun: Maverick.
Although regarded as the most celebrated movie star today, it is no wonder that somewhere along his acting journey, Cruise felt he missed out on an experience that only legends like Clint Eastwood managed to land in their lifetimes.

Tom Cruise has been dominating Hollywood ever since he stepped foot into the industry. Whether it is pulling off insane, almost impossible stunts or delivering passionate scenes with all his heart, the man has proven over and over again why he is the biggest superstar alive. The best thing about Tom Cruise has got to be that he isn’t afraid of going out of his comfort zone. Thus, when you look at his filmography, you aren’t just going to find him playing larger-than-life characters and heroically saving the day. Sometimes, he likes to make a little mischief.

There have been times when Tom Cruise ditched the charming hero to play more complex, darker characters. Sometimes he is Vincent, a cold-blooded hitman, and other times he’s the power-hungry Hollywood producer, Les Grossman. Clearly, the man can pull anything off.

A hollow, lifeless conference hall at the Los Angeles Convention Center is just about the last place you would expect to find a Grateful Dead tribute concert on a Friday night. But it was there that MusiCares put on a show for the ages, honoring the band at its Persons of the Year gala with founding members Bob Weir and Mickey Hart in attendance (drummer Bill Kreutzmann could not make the trip and delivered a message by video) and a slew of acolytes who understood the assignment.
Typically, the MusiCares dinner is a polite affair, with guests seated respectfully for most of the performances, save the all-star finale, a staple of the event. And that’s not to say that previous Person of the Year recipients — which include Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney and Barbra Streisand — didn’t have their own rabid fanbases in attendance. But the Deadheads just do things differently.

Tom Cruise is the man who sprints full speed in every movie. He clings to planes, jumps off cliffs, and does things most action stars wouldn’t dream of. For years, he’s been Hollywood’s adrenaline junkie, the human embodiment of ‘go big or go home.’
But before he became the action star, he was actually chasing something else: serious acting cred. And honestly? The actor nailed it. Back in the late ’90s, Cruise wasn’t just doing blockbuster stunts. He was taking real, emotional risks. And in Magnolia (1999), he gave a performance so raw, so gut-wrenching, that it should’ve guaranteed him an Oscar.
Instead, he got nominated, clapped politely when someone else won, and walked away without that golden statue. A crime, honestly. Now, Magnolia isn’t your typical Tom Cruise flick with a run-chase, explosions, and saving the world. It’s a chaotic, messy, and weirdly...

Director Paul Thomas Anderson’s mysterious Leonardo DiCaprio-led 2025 movie could be the most surprising action movie, well, ever. The Academy Award-nominated filmmaker will join forces with the Academy Award-winning star for this year’s One Battle After Another, which has reportedly now had a test screening. And the results are...unexpected.
Known for the likes of Boogie Nights, Magnolia, and There Will Be Blood, One Battle After Another has now been described as the “closest we’ll ever get” to a Paul Thomas Anderson making a “full-on action movie.” The footage that was shown included “tentpole-level spectacle,” including “loads of action and car chases,” and a “phenomenal” car chase climax. According to The Film Stage and their sources, One Battle After Another could be the director’s most mainstream movie yet. “It could definitely appeal to a lot of people, starting with Leo and the scale that is present,...

Deafheaven have announced a new album, Lonely People with Power, arriving March 28th via Roadrunner Records. The video for the lead single “Magnolia” can be streamed below.
The track signals a furious return to the band’s black metal style, complete with frontman George Clarke’s vocals sounding as a harsh as ever — an approach he eschewed on the previous album, Infinite Granite. Black metal beats and tornadic riffs build to a crescendo as the track reaches an epic Slayer-esque breakdown — the heaviest Deafheaven have sounded since the 2019 one-off “Black Brick.”

Appropriately, the Resident Evil franchise just refuses to die, even after several critical and financial disasters in the last several years. Now it looks like a new take on the zombie-virus saga is on the way from Barbarian director Zach Cregger, who will write and direct the latest entry in the survival horror franchise, which is the subject of a fierce bidding war, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Resident Evil has come a long way since its first appearance as a Playstation game in the 1990s. Spawning several game sequels, a successful but panned movie franchise starring Milla Jovovich, and a number of anime movies, the live action franchise appeared to come to an end with Resident Evil: The Final Chapter in 2016. However, horror movies with “The Final Chapter” as a subtitle rarely live up to the promise, and no one believed that this was the last time Resident Evil would be adapted.

Tom Cruise, undoubtedly, continues to be one of the biggest enigmas in Hollywood. Arguably the biggest action star and one of the leading lights in Hollywood, the actor has given us some truly wonderful projects.
Yet, he remains without an Academy Award. The same has been brought to light by Léa Seydoux, star of James Bond’s Spectre and No Time to Die. Seydoux, while appearing on Konbini, expressed her admiration for Cruise’s diverse talent and lamented his lack of recognition from the Oscars.

While exploring a video store in France, Seydoux selected Brian De Palma’s Mission: Impossible as one of her favorite films, marveling at Tom Cruise’s ability to excel in both action-packed roles and nuanced dramas.
She remarked:
