A couple weeks after making its mark at CinemaCon with footage that was described as being “batshit insane,” Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have officially kicked off the marketing campaign for director Zach Cregger’s (Barbarian) Weapons with a mysterious image.

This first look teaser image for the upcoming “horror epic” – which has been compared to Paul Thomas Anderson’s Magnolia – is a simple photo of an alarm clock set to 2:17am, which is an important time in the world of Cregger’s Weapons. That’s precisely when every kid in town wakes up, gets out of bed, walks outside in the dark and never comes back home.

Horror fans have been clamouring for some details for Barbarian director Zack Cregger's mysterious second feature, Weapons, and we finally have some idea of what to expect following a screening of the first trailer at CinemaCon.

Up until now, the only information we've been given about the movie is that it was developed as “a multi and inter-related story horror epic that tonally is in the vein of Magnolia, the 1999 actor-crammed showcase from filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson.”

Per Variety, the movie stars The Fantastic Four: First Steps' Julia Garner as an elementary school teacher who arrives at work one morning to discover that every single member of her class is missing. The trailer continues with a child's voiceover telling us that, "Mrs. Gandy’s room was totally empty. Because the night before, at 2.17 am, every kid woke up, got out of bed, walked downstairs and into the dark, and they never came back.

So far, plot details have been tightly guarded for writer-director Zach Cregger‘s mysterious follow-up to Barbarian, Weapons. That is, until now. New footage was previewed tonight at CinemaCon, reported by Variety, revealing new story clues.

Variety described the reel shown to the CinemaCon crowd, indicating something in the vein of Children of the Corn, with Wolf Man‘s Julia Garner starring as an elementary school teacher who arrives to work one morning only to find her entire class of kids went missing the night before.

During the Warner Bros. studio presentation at CinemaCon, the division dedicated part of its time in the spotlight inside the Colosseum at Caesars Palace to showing off the highly-anticipated horror film from Zach Cregger. The genre pic stars Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, June Diane Raphael, Austin Abrams, Benedict Wong, Alden Ehrenreich and Amy Madigan, among others.

Cregger did the honors himself by coming to the stage but keeping his comments brief due to the spoiler nature of his “twisty and turny” movie. “The material we’re going to show is the tip of the iceberg,” said the filmmaker, adding that the script reinvents itself and unravels as it goes. Back in the 1880s, magician Jean Eugène Robert-Houdin used to stun his audiences with a trick he called “The Marvelous Orange Tree.” It was all very complicated, but, in the end, resulted in a lady’s handkerchief bursting out of the titular plant, held aloft by butterflies. There’s also fire involved. “The Marvelous Orange Tree” is the title of the last track on the latest (and best) album from endlessly inventive metal band Deafheaven, and it perfectly sums up their magic-trick mix of raw aggression, painterly lyrics, and earworm melodies.

Warner Bros. has released an official trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another. This comes after the studio released a teaser trailer for the upcoming Leonardo DiCaprio crime thriller last week.

One Battle After Another is inspired by Thomas Pynchon's 1990 novel Vineland, making this Anderson's second adaptation of the author's work after Inherent Vice, the 2014 movie based on the eponymous 2009 novel. The upcoming crime thriller is notable for being the first time that DiCaprio has worked with Anderson, the acclaimed filmmaker behind Boogie Nights (1997), Magnolia (1999), There Will Be Blood (2007), Phantom Thread (2017), and Licorice Pizza (2021). Actor and producer Tom Cruise is to receive the British Film Institute’s highest honour, the BFI Fellowship.

The Fellowship will be presented to Cruise at the BFI Chair’s Dinner in London on May 12, hosted by BFI Chair Jay Hunt.

The actor will also participate in an in-conversation at the BFI Southbank on May 11 while a month-long programme of his repertoire will play at both the Southbank and BFI Imax.

Deafheaven have released the new song “Heathen,” the second single from their upcoming album, Lonely People with Power, arriving March 28th.

The genre-bending track runs the gamut for Deafheaven, opening with majestic guitar arpeggios and clean singing from frontman George Clarke, a la the band’s last album Infinite Granite. These majestic moments are broken up with metallic blasts that feature harsh vocals, though the overall aggression has been toned down as compared to the full-on black metal of the previous lead single “Magnolia.”

Michael Groszkruger, the respected market research executive who spent more than two decades at New Line Cinema and Warner Bros., died Jan. 30 of complications from cancer in Portland, Oregon, his family announced. He was 60.

Groszkruger served as a vice president and head of research at New Line from 1997-2008, a period in which the studio released such notable films as Wag the Dog, The Wedding Singer, Magnolia, Love & Basketball and entries in the Lord of the Rings, Austin Powers and Rush Hour franchises.

“A lot of New Line’s success was due to Mike’s extraordinary ability to take research and distill the data into creative insights,” former New Line president of marketing Russell Schwartz said in a statement. “His instincts in marketing were unparalleled.”

Although regarded as the most celebrated movie star today, it is no wonder that somewhere along his acting journey, Cruise felt he missed out on an experience that only legends like Clint Eastwood managed to land in their lifetimes.

There have been times when Tom Cruise ditched the charming hero to play more complex, darker characters. Sometimes he is Vincent, a cold-blooded hitman, and other times he’s the power-hungry Hollywood producer, Les Grossman. Clearly, the man can pull anything off.

A hollow, lifeless conference hall at the Los Angeles Convention Center is just about the last place you would expect to find a Grateful Dead tribute concert on a Friday night. But it was there that MusiCares put on a show for the ages, honoring the band at its Persons of the Year gala with founding members Bob Weir and Mickey Hart in attendance (drummer Bill Kreutzmann could not make the trip and delivered a message by video) and a slew of acolytes who understood the assignment.

Typically, the MusiCares dinner is a polite affair, with guests seated respectfully for most of the performances, save the all-star finale, a staple of the event. And that’s not to say that previous Person of the Year recipients — which include Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney and Barbra Streisand — didn’t have their own rabid fanbases in attendance. But the Deadheads just do things differently.

Deafheaven have announced a spring 2025 North American tour in support of their upcoming album Lonely People with Power.

The tour kicks off April 19th in LA and runs through May 23rd in Mesa, Arizona, hitting Chicago, New York City, Dallas and other markets along the way. Deafheaven’s itinerary also includes two festival slots at Sonic Temple and Welcome to Rockville. For the headlining gigs, Gatecreeper and Trauma Ray will serve as support.

Deafheaven are hitting the road. The metal band announced a 25-date North America tour on Wednesday, separate from a handful of festival appearances they have coming up in the U.K. and Europe as well.

Deafheaven will kick off the tour in Los Angeles at the Belasco on April, hitting much of the U.S. and a few Canadian stops along the way, before wrapping in Mesa, Arizona at the Nile on May 23. Gatekeeper and Trauma Ray are both opening acts.

The track signals a furious return to the band’s black metal style, complete with frontman George Clarke’s vocals sounding as a harsh as ever — an approach he eschewed on the previous album, Infinite Granite. Black metal beats and tornadic riffs build to a crescendo as the track reaches an epic Slayer-esque breakdown — the heaviest Deafheaven have sounded since the 2019 one-off “Black Brick.”

Lonely People with Power is the band’s sixth proper studio album and was recorded at EastWest Studios with producer Justin Meldal-Johnsen. The 12-song LP includes additional vocal contributions from Jae Matthews of Boy Harsher and Paul Banks of Interpol.

Now it looks like a new take on the zombie-virus saga is on the way from Barbarian director Zach Cregger, who will write and direct the latest entry in the survival horror franchise, which is the subject of a fierce bidding war, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Resident Evil has come a long way since its first appearance as a Playstation game in the 1990s. Spawning several game sequels, a successful but panned movie franchise starring Milla Jovovich, and a number of anime movies, the live action franchise appeared to come to an end with Resident Evil: The Final Chapter in 2016. However, horror movies with “The Final Chapter” as a subtitle rarely live up to the promise, and no one believed that this was the last time Resident Evil would be adapted.
