It’s the late great Carrie Fisher’s birthday, as the Star Wars icon and prolific writer would have turned 68 today. Fisher is obviously best known for playing Princess Leia, but her long list of acting credits also includes the “Mystery Woman” from The Blues Brothers, Marie from When Harry Met Sally and “Bianca Burnette,” the washed-up actress who accuses George Lucas of sexual misconduct in Scream 3.

Less high up on Fisher’s list of accomplishments is the 1981 comedy Under the Rainbow, a notorious turd about the making of The Wizard of Oz, also starring Chevy Chase. Inspired by possibly apocryphal stories involving the hotel hosting the “drunken” Munchkin actors, Under the Rainbow also threw in a wacky espionage plot line about Nazi spies, which is why Hitler gets heil-ed in the balls just five minutes into the movie.

ABC’s Deception wrapped its one-and-done run on Sunday with a two-hour finale that finally shed more light on Mystery Woman’s agenda, before setting the stage for what would have been a quite different Season 2.

From her initial television stardom as teenager Becca on ABC's "Life Goes On," through a long string of TV movies and onto later series roles as the Appalachian teacher on CBS' "Christy," medical student Lucy on NBC's "ER" and an amateur sleuth in Hallmark Channel's "Mystery Woman" franchise, the actress has covered a lot of turf.

Any type of part Martin hasn't done already holds special appeal for her now. That's a big reason she has joined Lifetime's Sunday-night drama "Army Wives" as Capt. Nicole Galassini, whose expertise on African geopolitics proves useful.

"When they called me and I listened to the pitch about the character, I was so excited," Martin tells Zap2it. "I've never played military, after 30 years of being an actress, and the thing I love so much about Nicole is that she's so smart and so driven.

Television personality Leeza Gibbons recently participated in the planting of 100 trees at Beverly Hills' Coldwater Canyon Park to counteract the carbon footprint imprinted by each guest at her yearly Oscar viewing party "A Night to Make a Difference". The April 16 event was held in cooperation with environmental nonprofits Environmental Media Association (Ema) and Tree People.

With the planting of trees native to Southern California, Leeza met both a promise to offset carbon emissions and to continue her fundraising contributions to local nonprofit organizations. Hallmark Channel executive vp programming David Kenin has extended his contract by two years.

Crown Media Holdings, which owns and operates the network, disclosed Tuesday in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission that Kenin's contract will now expire Dec. 31, 2009.

In addition, Kenin's annual base salary will increase to $825,000 next year 2008 and $850,000 in 2009.

Hallmark Channel has been on a roll with its programming, seeing solid numbers for acquired movies like March of the Penguins as well as its original movies, including the mystery franchises Mystery Woman, Jane Doe, Murder 101 and McBride.
