Filmmaker Prakash Jha, whose films are known to be seeped in the realism of soci-politico system, is revisiting the cop-drama genre with Jai GangaaJal, thirteen years after his National Award winning GangaaJal (2003) in the same genre. However, inspite of the similar names and the protagonists being topcops in both the films, the upcoming Priyanka Chopra starrer is in fact, not a sequel to the Ajay Devgn starrer hit.

Talking about the similarity in names and why the film is called Jai GangaaJal he says, “The difference between the two films is that they are stories and situations of two different Indian societies – the society of 2003 which is hugely different from that of 2016. The similarity is the kind of compulsions under which the police functions and the challenges they have to resolve”.

Priyanka Chopra, who will be essaying the role of a female Ips officer in Prakash Jha’s Jai Gangaajal, recently shared a teaser video of the film’s making on her Instagram account, which shows the ace director taking his crew members to task.

The cop-drama got a clearance from the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (Fcat), which suggested only two minor changes – first to change a word in a dialogue and the second, to reduce the length of a scene by a few seconds. The Revising Committee had asked Prakash Jha to make 11 cuts in his cop-drama for a UA certificate, which if applied across the film would have added up to 70-odd cuts and would have changed its very texture. Jha’s original film Gangaajal, which starred Ajay Devgn released in 2003 but this is not a sequel. Though it does revisit the story of a police officer, this drama has its own story to tell. Talking about the tale of Jai GangaaJal, Jha said in a recent interview, “Today, when a female police officer is brought in, people think they will be able to manipulate her, but she turns out to be a tough nut to crack. So, conflicts and confrontations start happening.”

After his last film Satyagraha, filmmaker Prakash Jha has been pretty copious with his absence from the film circuit. However, we now hear that the director - producer will be making a comeback of sorts with not one but five films. In fact come October 29, Prakash Jha will be announcing the five ventures namely, Fraud Saiyyan that will be directed by Saurabh Srivastava featuring Arshad Warsi and Saurabh Shukla, We Are Kukkad Family that will be directed by Riteish Menon, Lipstickwaale Sapne that will see Alankrita Srivastava (who earlier directed Turning 30) and also sequels to both Gangaajal and Raajneeti. Though further details of the films are unavailable, Prakash Jha will be making a formal announcement of the same later this week.

New Delhi, April 21: Yashpal Sharma, known for playing characters with grey shade, will again be seen as a villain in forthcoming film "Manjunath" and director Sandeep Varma says the actor's involvement in the script helped to improve his on-screen character.

Viacom18 Motion Pictures' project "Manjunath" is based on the real life story of young Iim-Lucknow graduate Manjunath Shanmugham, who was killed Nov 19, 2005, allegedly after he threatened to revoke the licence of a Lakhimpur Kheri petrol pump owner for selling adulterated fuel.

On receiving the script, the "Gangaajal" actor impressed Varma with his understanding.

Tell us about your project. What language will it be in?

Set in the crowded bylanes of small town India, Lipstick Under My Burkha (Lipstick Waale Sapne) chronicles the secret lives of four women who dream small dreams of freedom.

Dodging prying eyes, battling fear, they go about their days, reading what they shouldn’t be, singing what they shouldn’t be, feeling what they shouldn’t be and wanting what they shouldn’t be wanting. Through the colourful kaleidoscope of their world, we see these women secretly trying to live a little of their small lipstick dreams. In essence the film is about their search for freedom. Through the four stories, I want to dig deep into what it means to be a woman.

New Delhi, Aug 28: Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn Wednesday denied that his character in the socio-political thriller "Satyagraha" was similar to that of Indian politician and social activist Arvind Kejriwal.

"It's a fictitious story where the content is somewhere relevant to what is happening in the society today. There is no similarity between my character and that of Arvind Kejriwal. The film is not about one particular person or character," Ajay, here to promote the film ahead of its release Friday, told reporters.

After working together in films like "Dil Kya Kare", "Apaharan", "GangaaJal" and "Raajneeti", the 44-year-old.

With the highly-acclaimed Madras Cafe opening to very encouraging responses, the scenario is perfect for another political thriller coming Friday.

And no, Satyagraha is not a sequel to Prakash Jha's Raajneeti. "I was only trying to say that the politics of the two films has a kind of continuity. Where the politics of Raajneeti ends the politics of Satyagraha takes over. Otherwise there is no similarity between the two films. The characters are very different from one another," says Prakash Jha.

While Ajay Devgn, Manoj Bajpayee and Arjun Rampal have worked in a number of films with Prakash, and the Big B has done the anti-reservation film Aarakshan before, it is a first for Prakash with Kareena Kapoor.

Mumbai, July 11: Actress Gracy Singh, who featured in hit Bollywood films "Lagaan" and "Munnabhai M.B.B.S.", says she plans to soon wear the director's hat and that her film will be a social drama.

"I am interested in directing films and I will direct a film soon. Director is the captain of the ship and it's a very creative job," Gracy told Ians.

"My film will be a social drama based in the present times. Let's see how I go ahead with the plan," added the actress who became a known name after featuring in the hit TV show "Amanat".

Mumbai, July 9: Filmmaker Prakash Jha hasn't missed adding one sizzling item number in his forthcoming drama "Satyagraha". He has roped in model-actor Natasa Stankovic to groove to a thumri-electronic fusion number called "Aiyo ji hamri atariya mein" for the movie.

The filmmaker believes that such songs contribute to certain sensibilities and add to the story.

"Such numbers contribute to certain moments and sensibilities. They (dance numbers) help the story too," Jha said in a statement.

Earlier, Manyata Dutt, wife of actor Sanjay Dutt, did an item song called "Alhad mast jawaani" for Jha's 2003 released film "Gangaajal"..

The 12th edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival has organised a special section “Hindi Mood for Marrakech” this year to mark the centenary year of Indian cinema. Some of the Hindi films to be screened are Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Barfi!, English Vinglish, Don and Don 2.

An outdoor screening of selected films from Bollywood will be organised at the Jemaa el Fna square, each evening of the festival.

A delegation of Indian actors, directors and producers, lead by Amitabh Bachchan has been invited to attend a tribute ceremony on Saturday, December 1, 2012.

The festival will run from 30th November – 8th December, 2012.
