National Awards are widely regarded as one of the most prestigious honors in Indian cinema, valued for their integrity, lack of commercial flamboyance, and support for alternative, parallel, and small-budget yet impactful films across various languages and regions of the country. The National Award is a badge of honor for the filmography of any actor. Compared to other award ceremonies, National Awards are largely considered more authentic and unbiased, as these awards are selected by a jury of esteemed people.
Over the years, National Awards have diversified with many new awards introduced over some time. However, the diversification of the awards has also led to controversies regarding the awards and their adherence to unbiased selection. Time and again concerns were raised regarding the selection of artists for the National Awards, particularly in the case of films like “Rudaali” (1992), “Daman” (2000), Hum Tum” (2004), “The Kashmir Files” (2021), etc., and artists like Kirron Kher,...

According to her, not only are women getting to play good characters, but the audience too, has become more accepting of these roles.
Looking back over the last couple of years and the types of films that have released in India, we couldn’t agree more.

Filmmaker Prakash Jha, whose films are known to be seeped in the realism of soci-politico system, is revisiting the cop-drama genre with Jai GangaaJal, thirteen years after his National Award winning GangaaJal (2003) in the same genre. However, inspite of the similar names and the protagonists being topcops in both the films, the upcoming Priyanka Chopra starrer is in fact, not a sequel to the Ajay Devgn starrer hit.
Talking about the similarity in names and why the film is called Jai GangaaJal he says, “The difference between the two films is that they are stories and situations of two different Indian societies – the society of 2003 which is hugely different from that of 2016. The similarity is the kind of compulsions under which the police functions and the challenges they have to resolve”.
Both are cop dramas, interweaved with the society fabric mirroring the kind of respect that the police force command.

Ace filmmaker Prakash Jha waged a war against the Censor Board Of Film Certification (Cbfc), when the Revising Committee, headed by Cbfc Chairperson Pahlaj Nihalani, asked him to make 11 cuts, for a UA certificate, in his upcoming film Jai Gangaajal and the filmmaker has finally come out with flying colours.
The cop-drama got a clearance from the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (Fcat), which suggested only two minor changes – first to change a word in a dialogue and the second, to reduce the length of a scene by a few seconds. The Revising Committee had asked Prakash Jha to make 11 cuts in his cop-drama for a UA certificate, which if applied across the film would have added up to 70-odd cuts and would have changed its very texture. Pahlaj Nihlani had also threatened to give the Priyanka Chopra starrer an ‘A’ certificate, if ‘necessary’ changes were not made.

Earlier it was reported that Prakash Jha's film Jai Gangaajal that features Priyanka Chopra had hit a road block with the Censor Board of Film Certification (Cbfc) demanding 11 cuts in the film, sans which it would receive an 'A' rated certificate. However, now we hear that the makers of the film have received clearance for the film from the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (Fcat). Though the Fcat has cleared the film with a 'UA' rating, they have requested for two minor chances in the film. Commenting on the same, an elated Jha said that while the cuts are minor this clearance termed the Cbfc chief Pahlaj Nilhani's actions as 'questionable' and said that it appeared as if Nihlani had some personal agenda. As for the film, Jai Gangaajal, which is a sequel to Jha's 2003 release Gangaajal, is slated to release on March 4.

The Censor Board Of Film Certification (Cbfc) has provoked the ire of both – filmmakers and the audiences with their whimsical demands for cuts and beeps and now, they have rubbed noted filmmaker Prakash Jha the wrong way. Jha has been asked to beep out the word ‘saala’ among other ‘offensive words’ from his upcoming Priyanka Chopra starrer Jai Gangaajal as it is there in Cbfc Chairperson Pahlaj Nihalani’s infamous cuss list. The Revising Committee has asked Prakash Jha to make 11 cuts in his cop-drama for a UA certificate, which if applied across the film would add up to 50-odd cuts and will change the film’s very texture. An upset Jha, says, “How many beeps can you have in a film? Saala is a word we use in everyday conversation. My cop drama is set in the hinterlands. I’m not saying anything anti-national or anti-religion. I’m a...

Priyanka Chopra has won hearts across the globe by essaying the role of smart and agile, FBI Agent Alex Parrish in American TV show Quantico however, not many know that playing a badass cop in Prakash Jha’s Jai Gangaajal, helped her immensely to prepare for her character in ABC’s crime-thriller.

Here’s some exciting news! The much-awaited trailer of Director Prakash Jha’s upcoming film Jai GangaaJal, which stars Priyanka Chopra, will be out on December 22nd. Jai GangaaJal showcases the dusty heartland of Central India with protagonist Abha Mathur portrayed by Priyanka Chopra as she examines again the society–police relationship to tell a new story.
Jha’s original film Gangaajal, which starred Ajay Devgn released in 2003 but this is not a sequel. Though it does revisit the story of a police officer, this drama has its own story to tell. Talking about the tale of Jai GangaaJal, Jha said in a recent interview, “Today, when a female police officer is brought in, people think they will be able to manipulate her, but she turns out to be a tough nut to crack. So, conflicts and confrontations start happening.”
Adding, “The system doesn’t want a stronger person, it wants followers.

Ajay Devgn, who has been a part of Indian film industry for over two decades, was felicitated on October 19 for his valuable contribution to Indian cinema at the opening day of Confederation of Indian Industry (Cii)’s Big Picture Summit.
The two-time National Award-winning film actor is today among Bollywood’s most bankable box office stars. It isn’t his crowd-pulling prowess alone that defines him. His approach to his star status sets him apart from the crowd.
Primarily, his fans get to see Devgn only on the big screen. As his public appearances are rare, the seasoned actor lets his films do the talking for him. Like a true-blue professional, he has steadily evolved with age even if it might be fair to say that not every huge box-office grosser that he spearheads today does justice to the actor in him.

The last time when something was written about Prakash Jha was when there was a news stating that he will be playing the baddie (negative role) in his upcoming film Gangaajal 2 (a sequel to Gangaajal). This news took many by surprise. Well, there is no need to be shocked or surprised now, as it's (almost official) that Prakash Jha, unlike his previous decision to play the role of a manipulative cop, will now be seen in a positive role Gangaajal 2. He will now be seen playing the role of a senior inspector who is in tandem with the film's lead Priyanka Chopra. On the other hand, the role of the baddie will now be portrayed by Manav Kaul. When asked about his role, all Manav said was that he was playing a complex and an interesting role.

Set in the crowded bylanes of small town India, Lipstick Under My Burkha (Lipstick Waale Sapne) chronicles the secret lives of four women who dream small dreams of freedom.
Dodging prying eyes, battling fear, they go about their days, reading what they shouldn’t be, singing what they shouldn’t be, feeling what they shouldn’t be and wanting what they shouldn’t be wanting. Through the colourful kaleidoscope of their world, we see these women secretly trying to live a little of their small lipstick dreams. In essence the film is about their search for freedom. Through the four stories, I want to dig deep into what it means to be a woman.

Mr. Prakash Jha is one of the most respected directors in Hindi cinema. His films are not the typical girl meets boy tales, they move beyond that genre by examining social and sometimes controversial topics. However, he takes these serious social topics down to a personal level, so we not only see the drama, the fight, and the epic huge crowd scenes, but also the fun, the romance, and the many intimate moments that make up a world weaves it all together seamlessly. Not only are moviegoers entertained, they are also challenged to think and care more deeply. For his latest film, Aarakshan he turns the lens on the controversial issue of reservation in the Indian education system. Mr. Jha brings this important social issue into focus by presenting it in a very personal way: setting the story in one school within one village. The film examines how the reservation...
