Anette Ostrø’s debut feature-length film “The Golden Swan” took the seasoned filmmaker, who has been directing documentaries for television for decades, nearly 30 years before she was ready to make it.

The film, which was first pitched at IDFA, tells the story of Ostrø’s brother Hans Christian, a Norwegian actor who was abducted and murdered by a terrorist group during a trip to India in 1995. Now in post-production, the doc was one of five films presented this week as part of the Norwegian showcase at Visions du Réel’s industry program. Variety caught up with Ostrø and her producer Beathe Hofseth in VdR’s host town of Nyon, Switzerland.

Hans Christian and five other tourists — from Germany, the U.K. and the U.S. — were abducted in Kashmir in July 1995. The kidnapping made headlines around the world at the time. Five weeks later, Hans Christian’s beheaded body was discovered.

After more than a decade of constant updates, Digital Extremes brought one of the biggest updates in Warframe. The 1999 update was announced at The Game Awards 2024 and released on December 13, 2024. The update has been so successful that the developers are already using it to move to the next big update.

The seventh instalment in the long-running found footage franchise, V/H/S/Beyond, sees the series change its focus somewhat, from straight forward horror to a science fiction/horror hybrid. While it doesn’t quite follow Jason and the Leprechaun into space, most of the segments do involve aliens or other sci-fi elements.

Directed by Jay Cheel the film’s wraparound “Abduction, Adduction” begins that trend as Mitch Horowitz, host of Alien Encounters: Fact or Fiction, hosts an investigation of a pair of VHS tapes allegedly found at a flea market, and said to be proof of alien visitation.

That segues into “Stork”, directed by Jordan Downey who co-wrote it with Kevin Stewart based on artwork by Oleg Vdovenko.

This week's episode of Agatha All Along, titled "Familiar By Thy Side," begins at the celebration of young William Kaplan's "Magick Mitzvah." His parents watch on proud as punch and he later celebrates becoming a man alongside his friends. 

William enters a palm reader's tent and encounters Lilia Calderu. She sees that a long journey lies ahead of him, but the lights flicker when she notices his lifeline is broken in two. She puts it down to William's coming of age but after spouting another seemingly random sentence writes that familiar sigil on a small stone and places it in his jacket pocket. 

An emergency alert reveals that something strange is happening with the anomaly in Westview; everyone is ordered to head home and, while the radio plays snippets of the sitcoms we saw in WandaVision, the Hex comes down...and the car William and his parents are in crashes.

According to several sources, Clint Eastwood almost played Jonah Hex in a movie based on DC Comics' popular western hero. Eastwood has frequently been fan-cast as DCs scarred bounty hunter, so it will come as a shock to many that the world-famous star may have come close to playing Jonah Hex not long after the outlaw made his comics debut.

To this day, video games based on movies are widely treated as kind of a joke. According to Variety, Stahelski and his production company 87Eleven Entertainment are producing the remake for Lionsgate. The original Kill is directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, and opens in theaters on July 4 in North America and the UK thanks to Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions. It marks one of the very few instances where a large American studio partners to distribute a Hindi-language film. Jason Spitz and Alex Young are also producing the remake for 87Eleven Entertainment, which has worked on notable films such as Captain America: Civil War, Jurassic World and others.

We’ve finally arrived at the first of ten 2023 Amityville titles! First up is writer/director Jack Hunter II’s Amityville Ride-Share, a ~60 minute found footage film featuring loosely interconnected (or not) clips.

In some ways, Ride-Share feels reminiscent of the ill-advised pandemic title Amityville Hex, which exclusively featured YouTube creators doing their take on a viral video challenge.

The difference between this and Hex, however, is that there appears to be a knowing wink of self-awareness to the material. And while that may be giving Hunter II and dialogue writer Dann Eudy too much credit, even if it is unintentional, the bizarre meta commentary about gimmicky, cash grab sequels makes Ride-Share more interesting in the long run.

When Sword agent Monica Rambeau passes through Maximoff’s Westview-engulfing Hex, she emerges with strange new abilities. This power-up will serve her well in Marvel’s next film The Marvels.

Monica debuted in WandaVision, revealing she was a Sword agent and the daughter of Captain Marvel's best friend, Maria Rambeau. In the series, the character developed powers after coming into contact with the Scarlet Witch's Hex dome, which was put in place by a grieving Wanda.

The Avengers: Endgame actor is currently shooting season 2 of TV series Outer Range, in which he plays a Wyoming rancher fighting to keep his land.

Brolin wants fans to know that the new episodes will “take things in a different direction”, and to highlight this, he posted a photo on Instagram showing him wearing no clothes whatsoever – save for a necklace and a cowboy hat.

Outer Range season two had a showrunner overhaul when creator Brian Watkins stepped down following the show’s renewal in October. Charles Murray, whose credits include Sons of Anarchy and Luke Cage, is now overseeing the show.
