Today, Apple TV+ unveiled the trailer for Love You to Death (A muerte), the Spanish-language romantic comedy hailing from Atresmedia TV and Goya Award-nominated Dani de la Orden (Casa en Flames).

Starring Goya Award winner Verónica Echegui (The Patients of Dr. García) and Joan Amargós (Show Yourself), the seven-episode series will make its global debut on Apple TV+ on Wednesday, February 5 with the first two episodes, followed by a new episode every Wednesday through March 12.

Today, Apple TV+ announced a new seven-episode global acquisition of the Spanish-language romantic comedy Love You to Death (A muerte) from Atresmedia TV and director Dani de la Orden (Casa en flames).

The series stars Verónica Echegui (Orígenes secretos) and Joan Amargós (Show Yourself), and will make its global debut on Apple TV+ on Wednesday, February 5 with the first two episodes, followed by a new episode every Wednesday through March 12.

José de la Torre, star of Netflix’s Spanish series Toy Boy, died December 5. He was 37.

Spanish publication Montilla Digital reported on de la Torre’s death, while Spanish actors have paid tribute to their former colleague on social media.

Montilla reported that the actor had been fighting a mystery illness, diagnosed just a few months ago.

De la Torre was one of the leads in Toy Boy, which tells the story of a male stripper wrongly convicted of murder. The show, which aired on Atresmedia in Spain, ran for two seasons.

His other credits include local series Amar es para siempre (To Love is Forever) and Servir y protege (Serve and Protect).

In an Instagram post, Spanish actress and singer Lolita Flores said: “How hard it is for me to accept that you’re gone, without even knowing you … Life is so unfair sometimes. You’re handsome on the outside and on the inside.

Exclusive: Disney+ has placed a big bet on daily drama with the launch of Return to Las Sabinas.

The first five instalments dropped today in Spain, as well as on Disney+ around the world and Hulu in the U.S. The remaining 65 parts will be stripped throughout the week with new eps released weekday mornings. Soapy daily dramas and telenovelas move the dial across swathes of the TV world, but Return to Las Sabinas, from Diagonal and commissioned by Disney+ in Spain, is the first series of its kind in the daily drama space created for a major subs-based streamer.

Yesterday, on the eve of the launch, Disney+ programming boss Sofía Fábregas, creator and showrunner Eulàlia Carillo, and director Jordi Frades, clued Deadline in on the buzzy project.

Disney+ Spain has unveiled what it touts as the first original daily melodrama series produced by a premium streaming platform in Europe, “Return to Las Sabinas” (“Regreso a Las Sabinas”).

The announcement was the first order of the day at the Madrid confab, Iberseries & Platino Industria, which kicked off on Oct.1.

Like the traditional telenovela, it will be stripped daily but unlike the popular genre, will run for only 70 45-minute episodes instead of the 100-plus episodes typical of the original format that originated in Latin America.

Shot in and around Barcelona, the story follows sisters Gracia and Paloma who return to their childhood home in Las Sabinas to care for their father. Gracia reconnects with her first love, Miguel, who is now engaged to Ester. However, his brother Tano, is still in love with her and refuses to back down.

Disney+ shared some early footage from its upcoming original Spanish series Return To Las Sabinas (Regreso a Las Sabinas) this morning at Iberseries and Platino Industria in Madrid.

The series drops on Disney+ on October 11 and is one of the streamer’s first forays into the production of daily series. The first five episodes of Return To Las Sabinas will drop on October 11 while the remaining episodes will air one each day from Monday to Friday starting October 14.

The series, which consists of 70 episodes, was created by Eulàlia Carrillo and is directed by Jordi Frades, who was on the ground here at Iberseries and Platino Industria with Sofía Fábregas, VP of Original Production, Spain.

“We thought why is nobody doing this? Why is there no daily programming on any of the platforms,” Fábregas told the crowd in Madrid of the premise behind the series. “We thought who could do this?...

The ambitious Begoña Montes is locked in a toxic marriage to a magnate in the thrilling telenovela period drama “Dreams of Freedom” (“Sueños de Libertad”), produced for Antena 3 by Banijay’s Diagonal TV alongside Atresmedia – who produced groundbreaking shows “Money Heist” and “Velvet.”

“Our relationship with Diagonal is, and will continue to be, very good. We worked with them hand-in-hand on many productions, including ‘Amar es para siempre’, the predecessor of ‘Dreams of Freedom,’” Atresmedia fiction director, Montse García, told Variety.

Indie Spanish film studio Filmax has picked up international sales rights to “Alumbramiento” (‘Birth’), the sophomore feature by Pau Teixidor (“Purgatorio”), set up at Aquí y Allí Films, the production house run by Pedro Hernández Santos and behind “Something is About to Happen,” and “Life and Nothing More.”

Co-written by Teixidor and Lorena Iglesias (“Towards Bruce Lee’s Tomb”), and inspired by real events, the feature narrates the moving story of Lucia, a teenager sent to a centre for young, pregnant girls in Spain, in 1982.

In her feature length debut, Spanish actress Sofía Milán (“Love in Difficult Times”) plays Lucía, who’s been taken to Madrid by her mother Marisa to find a solution for an unwanted pregnancy.

Lucía ends up in Peñagrande, a reformatory for teen mothers-to-be where she will forge strong friendships with the other girls and discover the awful truth that her not yet born child is...

Sometimes, love happens when you least expect it. Voltage Pictures’ upcoming film See You on Venus is based on the debut young adult novel by author Victoria Vinuesa. The YA romance features Virginia Gardner portraying the role of Mia and Alex Aiono as Kyle.

Amazon’s Prime Video has announced a 2023 Spanish production slate which takes in movies and series from directors, writers and above all producers who have set Spain’s box office and global streamer rankings on fire over the last decade.

Talent attached to the three new movies and three series unveiled Tuesday in Madrid at a Prime Video Presents Spain event include “Hildegart,” from the producers of 2022 Berlin Golden Bear winner “Alcarràs,” “Un hipster en la España vacía,” produced by Lazona Films, which made ”Spanish Affair,” the highest grossing Spanish film ever in Spain; and “Apocalipsis Z: El principio del fin,” backed by Nostromo Pictures, behind “Through My Window,” the sixth-most watched non-English movie ever on Netflix.

Another title, docuseries “El Circo de los Muchachos” is co-written by Pepe Coira, co-scribe of “Hierro” and “Rapa,” two of the most popular series to date on Telefonica’s Movistar+.

Exclusive: Studiocanal has sold Spanish drama The Vow into Italy and the show has been commissioned for a second season.

On the eve of Mip TV, the producer-distributor has struck a deal with Italy’s Mediaset, which will air The Vow on Canale 5 later this year.

Created by Josep Cister Rubio and airing on Tve’s La1 in Spain, The Vow takes place at the beginning of the turbulent 20th century amongst the stunning landscapes of Southern Spain. Jana, a maid working at the waning yet ruthless House of Luján, seeks revenge for her mother’s murder, but there is one element she did not anticipate, falling in love with Manuel, son of the Count of Luján. Tve has just renewed for a second season.

Lionsgate+, formerly known as Starzplay, has set March 3 as the premiere date of its darkly comic original series ‘Nacho’ across all Latin America.

The news comes as Atresplayer Premium in Spain has announced that “Nacho” will bow on its service on March 5 as an Atresplayer Premium Original, in other words an exclusive in Spain on the adventurous service whose recent Originals include “Cardo,” produced by Los Javis.

Bowing its international trailer exclusively on Variety, the eight-episode series stars Martiño Rivas (“Cable Girls”) who plays the legendary Nacho Vidal whose notable physique makes him a star in Spain’s incipient porn industry in the ‘90s.

International production powerhouse The Mediapro Studio, producer of “The Head” and the Oscar-shortlisted “The Good Boss,” is allying with top Turkish producer-distributor Medyapim – behind global hit series “Mother” and “A Woman Scorned” – to launch of a new joint venture company dedicated to Spanish-language content production.

The as-yet-to-be-named j.v. between two of international’s production pacemakers will see the partners making Spanish-language originals and adaptations of hit Turkish and other country dramas, as well as further content assets from Medyapim, for distribution in Spain, Latin America and the world.

Unveiled by the partners on Thursday, the joint venture announcement comes as Turkish sries are enjoying a remarkable run on broadcast-network TV in Spain as indeed around much of the weorld.

The star of the Amazon Prime series El Cid will continue to be repped by CAA, You Rock Talent; and Brecheen, Feldman, Breimer, Silver & Thompson.

Sanz is renowned for her turn as Paloma Iglesias in the second season of El Rey’s From Dusk Till Dawn from Robert Rodriguez.

Sanz is currently shooting Gideon Raff’s bilingual thriller series Now and Then for Apple TV+ opposite Rosie Perez, Maribel Verdú, and Marina de Tavira. Set in Miami with an all-Hispanic cast, the series explores the differences between youthful aspirations and the reality of adulthood, when the lives of a group of college best friends are forever changed after a celebratory weekend ends up with one of them dead. Now, 20 years later, the remaining five are reluctantly reunited by a threat that puts their seemingly perfect worlds at risk.

Last year’s release of the Atresplayer Premium pay TV platform involved stepping up Atresmedia’s bet on original TV content production, particularly in fiction series.

Part of its transformation process from traditional broadcasting group to a digital content producer, Atresplayer Premium is giving the group a new distribution window for Spain and the rest of the world.

With a remarkable presence in Spain and Latin America, Atresplayer Premium’s subscribers number has grown significantly from 140,000 at the end of last year to 253,000 in June.

“It’s clear that direct-to-consumer is the way to go. Atresplayer Premium will continue growing in 2021,” says María Rúa Aguete, executive director at research company Omdia.

“Atresplayer shows three different types of programming: Linear broadcasting of the group’s TV channels, previews of programs that will later release on free-to-air, and originals,” explains José Antonio Antón, director of programming, content and digital at Atresmedia.

Emily Mortimer (Hugo), Bill Nighy (Love Actually) and Patricia Clarkson (Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials) are due to star in writer-director Isabel Coixet’s (Endless Night) drama The Bookshop, which is due to get underway this August.

Coixet has adapted the story from Booker Prize-winning novelist Penelope Fitzgerald’s well-received novel of the same name.

Set in a small town in 1959 England, The Bookshop charts the story of a woman (Mortimer) who decides, against polite but ruthless local opposition, to open a bookshop, a decision which becomes a political minefield.

Celsius Entertainment will be cooking up deals in Cannes on the period project, which has pre-sold to Spain (A Contracorriente), Australia/Nz (Transmission), Greece (Odeon), Airlines (Jaguar) and Turkey (Filmarti).
