Superman is likely to be a big part of Warner Bros.' CinemaCon presentation later this evening, and as the movie's marketing campaign begins to pick up pace, the Dcu's Man of Steel, David Corenswet, has discussed the role with Time.
While playing a superhero was once a guarantee of success for actors, apparent "superhero fatigue" means these movies are no longer surefire hits. And for misfires like Morbius, Madame Web, and Kraven the Hunter, the damage done to the careers of those who led them is significant.
Corenswet is well aware of that and the pressure a role like Superman brings. He also knows that there's a very good chance he'll only ever be remembered for playing the Man of Tomorrow. And he's okay with it.
"Would this be worth doing if this was the only thing I do as an actor for the rest of my life?" he ponders.

Smallville is about the evolution of a teenage Clark Kent into the legendary Superman. Creators Al Gough and Miles Millar wanted to delve into what made the man a hero. Exploring why Clark Kent wants to help people makes for an emotionally resonating journey and a TV show that garners new fans all the time. The show deals with darker themes, like what turns someone into a supervillain, and real questions about morality and humanity, with a hopeful message. The pilot episode of Smallville lays the groundwork for the series, introducing these themes and foreshadowing where the story will go.
No other shot in the series sums up Clark Kent quite like when he stands in front of an angel statue with its wings spread out behind him. This iconic shot encapsulates Clark’s role in Smallville as a guardian of the town, saving people regularly, a martyr with his...

James Gunn’s version of Superman will soon be launched on the big screens, and the buzz surrounding it couldn’t be louder than ever. While many are still unsure if his revamped version of the Dcu that would feature David Corenswet as the new Clark Kent would be worth it, many others already have their hopes high with Gunn about it all.

Amidst all of this, quite a lot of speculation is also surrounding how Gunn’s version would be different than Zack Snyder’s. And it seems like Gunn may as well have already surpassed Snyder in one major aspect: This is through the simple-minded concept he used to nail Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan’s casting, as opposed to what Snyder did in his saga.

The movies adapting the heroes of the DC Universe have seen many characters make decisions that proved to age poorly. Even before the beginning of the Dceu’s movie timeline, DC movie adaptations were bringing the heroes of DC Comics to life on the big screen. Boasting several iconic characters such as Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, the movies set in the DC Universe feature some of the most recognizable characters in pop culture.
However, those characters don’t always make the best decisions. The movies of the Dceu saw many characters make certain choices that turned out to be terrible in the long run, or be viewed differently years later as part of the ever-shifting cultural landscape of modern society. Well-intentioned or not, they each came to be considered poor choices in hindsight, making these 10 DC movie decisions age incredibly poorly.

Spencer Treat Clark's acting career got off to a promising start at the turn of the millennium when the 12-year-old, coming off of appearances in "Arlington Road" and "Double Jeopardy," booked roles in what wound up being two of 2000's biggest hits: Ridley Scott's "Gladiator" and M. Night Shyamalan's "Unbreakable." Three years later, he landed the part of Silent Ray in Clint Eastwood's "Mystic River," at which point it felt like we might be watching Clark grow into one of the top actors of his generation.
While Clark has worked steadily since then, he seems to be settling into more of a character actor groove –- which is a great place to be! But you have to wonder how the now 37-year-old performer feels when he happens across a trailer for "Gladiator II" and sees Paul Mescal mixing it up in the Coliseum as Lucius Verus,...

Lost star Michael Emerson looks back on his character's darkest moment from his entire nine-year run on the series.
Speaking to TheWrap, Emerson discussed the moment in Lost in which his character, Ben Linus, watches the brutal murder of his adoptive daughter Alex, as portrayed by Tania Raymonde. Responding to whether that might be the darkest moment for Ben in the series, Emerson said, "Yeah, it was terrible, a big, big turning point, certainly, and a terrific narrative surprise. Fantastic play on the part of the writers to turn the sympathy system of the show on its head and to be willing to sacrifice a loved character in that way, to make them a martyr, sort of. Yeah, that was heavy."

The TV series Smallville ended over a decade ago, but it remains a favorite in the hearts and minds of various television and DC Comics fans. Telling the story of a young Clark Kent, it showcased his earliest adventures and his development on the road to becoming Superman. Now, the show is being considered for a followup, albeit in a different format.
According to actor Michael Rosenbaum, an animated Smallville sequel has been considered, with some even questioning if it will ever happen. The animated medium is much different than the kind of show that fans are used to, and it could provide for various new avenues to expand the series' story. Nicolas Cage's unrealized Superman movie remains one of Hollywood's most popular "What if?" projects. Director Tim Burton looks back on the film that would have altered the course of the Superman franchise.
Director Tim Burton confirmed Superman Lives faced a gauntlet of production challenges. In an interview with Variety, he compared his experience to the quest for the Golden Fleece from the Greek legends. "There's always this Jason and the Argonauts-style journey that everyone goes through to get a movie made," he explained. "I've worked on a couple movies that didn't happen after working for years on them, and those are quite traumatic. I just try to focus on things that I feel strongly about and get rid of all the noise surrounding them." Burton reflected on this after saying he's not interested in making another superhero film at the moment.

Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman became an instant hit when the series debuted on ABC in 1993. Terri Hatcher, who played the titular Daily Planet reporter opposite Dean Cain's Man of Steel, recently shared her thoughts about a promotional photo from the series that went viral due to its provocative nature.
"I broke the internet when we still had dial-up," Hatcher told The Guardian when asked about the photo which featured the actor wrapped in Superman's cape and nothing more. "I don't credit myself with being so fabulous. I do remember the photo-shoot, which was to promote the TV show. It took all day. I was wearing a white blouse and pencil skirt because Lois is a reporter from the Daily Planet, with the cape wrapped over."

Smallville's absence in Crisis on Infinite Earths' final montage was due to oversight and SAG pay rules. Future possibilities for Smallville's fate lie in a planned animated sequel series. Updates on the Smallville animated series development and potential pitch to DC have come out in 2024.
The Arrowverse's Crisis on Infinite Earths showrunner explains the crossover's confusing Smallville choice. One year before Arrow debuted in 2012 and the Arrowverse was born, Tom Welling ended his run as Clark Kent after ten seasons of Smallville. With the final season of the Superman prequel series, it seemed like the actor would never play Clark again. Thankfully, the Arrowverse changed that, with Welling and Lois Lane actress Erica Durance returning for the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover, though there was an issue.
On The Showrunner Whisperer podcast, Crisis On Infinite Earths showrunner Marc Guggenheim talked about why Smallville's universe was not included in the event's post-Crisis montage.

Playing Superman is one of Hollywood's most coveted opportunities and it's unthinkable anyone would decline the role. Jude Law says he did just that for a compelling (personal) reason.
Jude Law revealed he almost joined the short list of actors ever to play Clark Kent / Man of Steel; he was among the few courted for the role in an early 2000s Superman project. "So this is true. Yeah," Law confirmed in an episode of The Playlist podcast. "And there was a process of flirtation going on. And I always resisted because it just felt like [off]. And I know you can say, 'Well, but you played Yonn-Rogg and Dumbledore!' It just felt like a step too far." Law had been mostly cast in dramas up to that point, starring in critically acclaimed films like Gattaca, The Talented Mr. Ripley, Road to Perdition, and Cold Mountain.

Superheroes on the small screen have become a regular occurrence lately, but an early success story for the genre came with Warner Bros.' Superman prequel Smallville. Beginning in 2001, Smallville's depiction of Clark Kent's early years is charming and surrounds him with a crowd of likable characters. However, while Smallville may seem a friendly locale for Clark, it can also be an extremely dangerous place to hang out, with many fights having broken out in the town. Tom Welling's recent comments regarding his interest in a Smallville movie have reignited interest in the show, which many fans believe has some very intense battle sequences.
These action-packed Smallville moments prove that the small screen is just as capable of producing a spectacular superhero fight as the big screen. They contain some particularly strong choreography that helps to recreate the magic of the Superman comic books. Smallville's main and supporting characters are skilled fighters,...

Cavill's Superman portrayal in the Dceu had its flaws, influenced by creative choices and behind-the-scenes turmoil. The limited screen time and muted performance of Cavill's Superman hindered his ability to showcase his full range of talent. Superman's violent tendencies and lack of concern for innocent bystanders, as well as his selective focus on saving personal friends, undermined his portrayal as a caring hero.
Though there is a sense of loss surrounding the end of Henry Cavill's tenure as Superman, a look back at his appearances in the Dceu makes it clear that things weren't always great for this iteration of the character. Some issues with Cavill's Superman were down to creative choices, while others were created by the turmoil behind the scenes at DC and the decision to reboot their film franchise. Clark's powers and abilities in Smallville were awe-inspiring, as he fought against major villains and constantly evolved his powers. Smallville showcased Clark's wide array of powers, including super speed, heat vision, freeze breath, and invulnerability, making him the most powerful member of the Justice League. Some of Clark's most remarkable displays of power included leaping tall buildings, tunneling through the ground, crushing coal into diamond, and pushing away an entire planet to save the Earth.
Tom Welling's Superman showed great abilities in Smallville, and some of the times Clark Kent used his powers were quite awe-inspiring. Welling played Clark for all of Smallville's ten seasons, and while the DC series only saw him become Superman in its very final episode, Clark fought plenty of Superman's major villains from the comics over the years. Some of Smallville's best villains include Doomsday, Darkseid, General Zod, and, obviously, Michael Rosenbaum's Lex Luthor.

In the final episodes of Superman & Lois Season 3, yet another character learns Clark Kent's secret identity. This is part of a larger trend in live-action superhero storytelling, through the Arrowverse and beyond, where secret identities aren't as important as they've been historically in the comics. However, a common approach to the discovery of this massive secret gets it wrong about why heroes have a right to keep their identities to themselves.
It's not just Superman & Lois or the rest of the Arrowverse, either. For example, a mission halfway through the Miles Morales: Spider-Man game features the character's best friend, Ganke, encouraging Spidey to reveal his identity to The Tinkerer, another of their friends. At the heart of all these stories is the idea that keeping one's identity a secret from friends and family is tantamount to deception. In live-action or realistic animation, like the game, people treat the hero's secret as a betrayal of trust.

Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan is ending with season 4, meaning it's the last chance for another major figure from the books to appear. While Jack Ryan has changed actors nearly as often as James Bond, the key difference is that Jack used to swap faces in almost every outing. On the big screen, only Harrison Ford has played the CIA analyst more than once, but with Amazon's Jack Ryan, John Krasinski has been given multiple seasons to make his mark on Clancy's most famous hero. While Jack Ryan will end with its upcoming fourth series, a spinoff fronted by Michael Peña is currently in the works.
