Clio Barnard, the BAFTA-nominated writer/director behind acclaimed British indie films such as “The Selfish Giant,” “Dark River” and “Ali & Ava,” has set a buzzy ensemble cast for her next feature.

“I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning,” based on the novel of the same name by Keiran Goddard (“Hourglass), will star Anthony Boyle, Joe Cole, Jay Lycurgo, Daryl McCormack and Lola Petticrew.

The cast also includes Millie Brady, Lucie Shorthouse and James Eeles.

Tony-winning Irish playwright, screenwriter and director Enda Walsh penned the screenplay for the film, which has now commenced principal photography on location in the U.K.

Exclusive: Monica Dolan, the double-bafta-nominated star of Mr Bates vs the Post Office, has raised concerns that the TV industry is “plagued by fear” due to the drama funding crisis.

Dolan, who last Thursday became the first actress this decade to be nominated for two TV BAFTAs in one year, said “creativity has to come from risk, belief and bravery” as she reflected on the outsized success of local stories like ITV’s six-time BAFTA-nommed Mr Bates.

“I think really what we are plagued by is fear and unfortunately in a lot of rooms that are supposed to be creative there’s talk that we’re scared of it being this or that or don’t want it to be X, Y or Z,” she told Deadline. “But if you are starting from a place of fear then you might as well forget about it really.”

The annual awards event recognizes the excellence in British television of 2024.

The 2025 BAFTA TV Awards are scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 11 at the Royal Festival Hall in London, England and will air live on BBC.

Nicola Coughlan will be honored at this year’s Canneseries festival with the Konbini Commitment Award. The Bridgerton and Derry Girls star will participate in an interview before receiving the award at the Lumiere Theater in Cannes’ Palais des Festivals on April 28.

The award, presented by French media group Konbini, recognizes talent whose work has artistic impact or social significance. Previous recipients include Sex Education creator Laurie Nunn, American Horror Story actress Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, and Transparent showrunner Joey Soloway.

Coughlan gained recognition for her role in Derry Girls, a comedy set in 1990s Northern Ireland. The series won best comedy at the 2023 BAFTAs and the International Emmy Awards. Nicola Coughlan will be feted at Canneseries. The Derry Girls and Bridgerton star will receive the Konbini Commitment Award at the event, which takes place on the Cote d’Azur in late April. Coughlan will take part in a sit-down interview and then receive her accolade in the iconic Lumiere Theater in Cannes’ Palais des Festivals. Coughlan’s recent work includes a role in the Doctor Who Christmas special. She will next be seen as Silky the woodland fairy in the upcoming adaptation of Enid Blyton’s The Magic Faraway Tree alongside Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy.

A pair of films from TV Asahi’s Shin Chan franchise will be released in India. Shin Chan Our Dinosaur Diary and Shin Chan The Spicy Kasukabe Dancers In India will released locally through multiplex operator PVR Inox Pictures.

The EastEnders actor will compete for Best Actor at the Broadcasting Press Guild (Bpg) Awards, which is voted on by British television and media journalists.

Dyer starred as electronics businessman Freddie Jones in Disney’s series about sex and skulduggery in the British television business in the 1980s.

BBC Studios and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) have renewed their content alliance with a comprehensive multi-year deal spanning drama, comedy, kids programming and entertainment fare. The agreement brings fresh installments of Alan Carr’s autobiographical comedy “Changing Ends” (Seasons 3-4) and standup favorite “Live At the Apollo” to ABC platforms. The pubcaster has also secured first-run rights to children’s series including preschool hit “Hey Duggee,” “Andy’s Global Adventures” with Andy Day, “Supertato,” “Deadly 60” and “Horrible Histories.”

BBC Studios and Australia’s public broadcaster, ABC, have extended their long-standing content agreement, continuing the delivery of British programming to Australian viewers. The deal, described as “substantial,” was announced as London’s International TV Week kicks off.

Under the renewed pact, ABC will receive a range of programming, including new seasons of Alan Carr’s Changing Ends, Live At the Apollo, Death in Paradise, Beyond Paradise, and Call The Midwife. The ABC will also debut Unforgotten (Season 6), Sherwood (Season 2), and a re-imagined Walking With Dinosaurs.

Apple TV+ has unveiled the trailer and key art for its Prime Target series, starring SAG Award winner Leo Woodall and Quintessa Swindell.

Created by award-winning writer Steve Thompson, who serves as executive producer, the conspiracy thriller is produced for Apple TV+ by New Regency with Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Productions.

The first two episodes of the eight-episode Prime Target series will premiere globally on Apple TV+ on January 22. One episode will follow weekly every Wednesday through March 5.

Exclusive: Joanne Froggatt, best known for starring in the long-running ITV/PBS period drama Downton Abbey, has signed on to join Guy Ritchie’s untitled crime series starring Tom Hardy (Venom: The Last Dance) for Paramount+ with Showtime.

Froggatt joins as a series regular alongside Mandeep Dhillon (CSI: Vegas) and Jasmine Jobson (Top Boy).

Production on the global crime series, previously known as The Associate (w/t), is currently underway in London. The show’s leads are Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, and Helen Mirren. Hardy stars as Harry Da Souza, the professional conciliator of the fictional Harrigan Irish crime family, Brosnan will play Conrad Harrigan, the Harrigan family head, and Mirren is Maeve Harrigan, Conrad’s wife, and the Harrigan family matriarch.

Froggatt will play Jan Da Souza, Harry’s wife. Dhillon will play Seraphina, Conrad’s daughter. Jobson has the role of Zosia, who works for Harry and is one of his closest associates.

The Witcher season 4 doesn't have a release date yet, which is no surprise given how the show has recast its lead role with Liam Hemsworth. Geralt of Rivia's mentor will also look different, as Vesemir's actor also won't be returning due to scheduling conflicts. But according to Netflix, the rest of The Witcher's regular cast will be returning, barring those who died during the climactic end of season 3.

The Witcher season 4 will also be bringing on several new cast members, such as fan-favorite vampire Regis, who will be played by Laurence Fishburne, as well as Danny Woodburn as Geralt's friend, the Dwarf swordsman Zoltan Chivay. With these additions, The Witcher's next outing will have a star-studded cast as the Netflix show reaches a tense point of adapting Andrzej Sapkowski's books.

In a first-look and development deal, Fremantle will become the primary home for all of Fudge Park’s upcoming scripted projects.

The news was unveiled Tuesday following the success of BBC Three’s Daddy Issues, starring Aimee Lou Wood (Sex Education) and David Morrissey (The Walking Dead, Sherwood), which debuted on BBC iPlayer in August and has already been green-lit for a second season.

Graham is the talent behind projects including play “Dear England,” which is being adapted for the BBC, and “Quiz” starring Michael Sheen.

The drama, starring David Morrisey, is made by House Productions. The first two seasons are available in the U.K. on iPlayer and in the U.S. on streamer Britbox.

Delivering this year’s Edinburgh TV Festival MacTaggart lecture, the prolific British scribe argued passionately for greater working class representation in the TV industry, along with criticizing commissioners’ ongoing temptation to opt for “source material, adaptations and expanded universes.”
