Deadline can reveal that Big Talk Studios, the producer behind Stephen Merchant’s BBC/Amazon series The Outlaws, is pitching a UK version of NBC’s iconic comedy. Thirty years after Cheers’ last orders, Big Talk has enlisted Simon Nye, the British writer known for Men Behaving Badly and The Durrells, to adapt the series for a UK audience. Nye will be showrunner if Cheers is greenlit.

Cheers ran for 11 seasons and 275 episodes on NBC, depicting life in a titular Boston bar run by Sam Malone (Ted Danson). Regulars included Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer) and Rebecca Howe (Kirstie Alley), and the show is consistently ranked among the best comedies ever made.

Starring Lucy Boynton, Justin H. Min, David Corenswet and Austin Crute, Benson’s latest has been described as a love story centering on the connection between music and memory, and how they transport us, sometimes literally. In what is likely to be considered a major poach, Sony Pictures Television has hired Mathew Justice — a seasoned U.K. industry vet and currently managing director of the ITV Studios-owned Big Talk — for the newly created role of executive vp, head of U.K. and Europe.

Reporting to Spt president of international productions Wayne Garvie, Justice will directly manage the company’s International Studio operations and European co-productions business, as well as work closely with Spt International Production’s wholly owned and joint venture production companies in the region, which include Bad Wolf (His Dark Materials, Industry), Eleven Films (Sex Education) and Left Bank Pictures (The Crown). He joins later this year.

“Joining Wayne and the team at Spt is an opportunity that dreams are made of,” said Justice. “The Spt labels are outstanding, so it is a rare honor to get to work with them and the people behind them.

Cunk on Earth is a BBC series directed by Christian Watt in which Philomena Cunk (played by Diane Morgan) asks questions which are sometimes uncomfortable, other times surrealistic and sometimes intelligent about inventions of Humanity and, how, centuries later, we have ended up the way we are today.

This is an interesting series that follows other batches of Cunk, which are a series that is a mix between educational series and entertainment that are ironic and atractive, above all, thanks to the presence of Diane Morgan who is just great with her British style that knows how to deliver this… irony.

The BBC has revealed the first trailer for four-part drama series “Marriage,” starring Sean Bean (“Time”) and Nicola Walker (“The Split”). The series will bow on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Aug. 14.

Written and directed by Stefan Golaszewski, the drama follows Ian (Bean) and Emma (Walker) as they negotiate the ups and downs of their 30-year marriage. They deal with the insecurities, the ambiguities, the hopes and the fears that are part of all marriages, as the drama explores the risks and the gifts of a long-term intimate relationship.

The cast also includes James Bolam as Gerry, Emma’s father, Henry Lloyd-Hughes as Jamie, Emma’s boss and Chantelle Alle as Jessica, Ian and Emma’s daughter.

The series is produced by The Forge and The Money Men. Executive producers are Tommy Bulfin for the BBC, Beth Willis and George Faber for The Forge and Richard Laxton and Stefan Golaszewski for The Money Men.

Steve Coogan and Sarah Solemani are writing and co-starring in a comedy-drama about sexual politics in the wake of the #MeToo movement for Britain’s Channel 4.

Produced by Coogan’s Baby Cow Productions, Chivalry stars Coogan and Solemani as filmmakers put together by a cynical studio executive to salvage a failing movie.

Coogan plays successful producer Cameron, who is known for dating a string of young women. Solemani stars as woke writer and director Bobby, a mother of one who has tasted success with a low-budget feminist film.

The odd couple are brought closer by a creeping attraction and a feeling that they are just pawns in the studio’s agenda for a Saudi Arabian buyout.

Screenwriters often say their characters are inspired by people they’ve met in real life. If that’s the case for Stefan Golaszewski, he’d better hope that none of them ever watch his shows and recognise themselves. That’s hardly a risk of course. Golaszewski’s best—and by best, I mean worst—comic creations are so lacking in self-awareness they’d never notice the similarities.
