dud of decade

There are two kinds of people filmy actors/ directors, politicians who live in a fool's paradise. Cricketers and sports people are dropped when they are out of form but directors, film stars are stubborn, they don't understand cues, so someone has to tell them in a simple language to exit, to leave gracefully even while they are at the top. Earlier one would go to Balakrishna's films expecting at least some kind of entertainment, but today's release forgets to deliver what it promises, in fact it drives you to tears.

Parama Veera Chakra is the best form of punishment any criminal should be given for consciously squandering money at the time of inflation. Balakrishna's respect, reverence for director Dasari must be deep, it is so deep that he couldn't say no to his film and parallely jeopardises his previous hit Simha and also pushes his fans into depths of despair.

The films of Balakrishna have become so passingly familiar that anyone with a least knowledge of Telugu films would predict that it wouldn't be replete with the thigh slapping scene and dialogue. The film actually begins after three hours, when either Murali Mohan or Balakrishna keep threatening that the story hasn't begun yet. But before that the saga in short is about a film star who finishes the unfinished task of an Army Major by stepping into his shoes; he's been wrongly implicated and killed. So you have the hero playing the dual role.

The first one hour seems to keep the sanity of the story, screenplay intact but after the interval, it becomes a nightmarish experience. Notice the hypocrisy of the director who talks against importing artistes from neighbouring states and has at least half a dozen people who make you feel you are watching a C grade Hindi film. Agreed, the hero has great talent for Telugu and felicity of expression but why would anyone be interested in watching him come up with a monologue that would last for five minutes.

Comedy in the form of a spoof on Robot leaves you with an uneasy feeling, there has been one or two films which have already used this not so funny interruption. Imagine calling Chitti as Cheddi, only a demented person can think of such a word. Sheela, Amisha Patel, Neha Dhupia all look so comfortable in the film and why wouldn't they? Vijay Kumar, Vijayachander attempt to laugh hard and make a fool of themselves. In short Parama Veera Chakra is a film by oldies, for oldies.

Don't lose faith, this film won't go waste, it can be used as a powerful ammunition to bomb Pakistan. If Dasari is aiming to win any award for this film, the audience please stake claim, you are rightful shareholders for being part of the film, the viewing experience. Some films might not be good, but you enjoy it. The reviewer is still hunting for that enjoyment.

PVC...you better see

It's a Herculean task when two stalwarts of Telugu Film Industry (TFI) come together and work on a project that has to live up to the audiences'expectations. In this case, there were no stalwarts and obviously no expectations.

Comedy king Natakiriti Rajendra Prasad left a vacuum in TFI after a string of commercially unsuccessful comedy genre films. His movies were always entertaining and most of them are still very funny to this date. One hero, and by no means an actor, Balakrishna has involuntarily become a hero who gives tremendous comic relief to audiences across various sections, barring very few who think is a great actor for reasons unknown.

The story of Parama Veera Chakra is rare and hard to find because there is no story to start with. The director and the hero just know that they have to make a movie together. Dasari might have been a good director in the past but why he is still making movies is beyond me. Balakrishna has acted, I repeat, acted in only a few movies in his entire career. All the other movies, he was just a caricature and a mere puppet used in every which way possible by the people around him. I pity Balakrishna and at the same time thank god that at least he has got the money from his father so he can lead a comfortable life. He's definitely missing many vital brain cells.

I just realized I am wasting my precious time writing about something no one will even remember in a few weeks. So, I am ending this so-called review abruptly. I know you must be wondering about the 9/10 rating, but I think the two old people deserve that for their dedication to complete the project they had started and also for spending months shooting for it. Agreed, they both need psychological help but guys they have created a new genre of films that have meaningless dialogs, senseless fights and emotionless acting.
