A few months ago, rumours swirled that Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy was gearing up to step down from her executive role. The news was welcomed by Star Wars fans who have lost faith in Kennedy's vision for the franchise, though she'd later rein in expectations.
To recap, Kennedy joined Lucasfilm as co-chair alongside Star Wars creator George Lucas in 2012 and later took over following his exit when Disney acquired the company for $4 billion.
Initially, Kennedy found great success in the role. Star Wars: The Force Awakens was a box office hit that grossed $2 billion worldwide. Some fans weren't happy with the movie, but it was a critical success and, two years later, The Last Jedi was another win for the studio. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story also grossed over $1 billion in 2016 and received positive reviews despite creative issues behind the scenes.

Academy Award-winning composer Alexandre Desplat draws inspiration from his “forever idol” John Williams with the orchestral score for Jurassic World Rebirth.
“At some moments, the music is so loud and so strong and dynamic that we feel it,” Desplat previews in the featurette below. “The audience will feel it for sure.”

Lost showrunner Carlton Cuse, along with his son Nick, are working on a new Star Wars series for Disney/Lucasfilm, it’s been announced.
After a lengthy wait, Andor season 2 has begun streaming in certain territories (the UK gets it on the 23rd April). Meanwhile, Lucasfilm appears to be planning other small screen adventures in the Star Wars franchise.
Several outlets – including Variety – are reporting that Carlton Cuse, perhaps best known as the showrunner of hit ABC series Lost, is currently in the early stages of developing a new Star Wars TV series. Cuse is said to be making the show with his son Nick, writer on the likes of the 2019 Watchmen series or Masters Of The Air.
Besides that, absolutely nothing is known about what the Cuses are working on. This means we’ll have to write about some other semi-related things in order to make this news story look a bit more substantial.

I’ve never sat down to watch a Star Wars property and thought to myself, “what this franchise needs is more intimate partner violence, child marriage, and attempted sexual assault.” All of that is in the Disney+ show, Andor season 2.
Somehow, that’s just skimming the surface of how lazy and backward the entire season is. For a show that’s releasing in the year 2025, the overarching sentiment is of a bygone era—one that even manages to outmatch some of the problematic elements of the original Star Wars trilogy.
Like its predecessor, Andor season 2 is broken up into four chapters of three episodes each. However, this time around, there’s a time jump between each chapter as the show attempts to lead us straight to the start of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. A new “Star Wars” streaming series is in the works from Carlton Cuse, the showrunner and executive producer of “Lost,” according to media reports. His son Nick Cuse will also be behind the upcoming series.
Little is known about what the series will be about, who its central characters will be or where it will take place in the timeline of the beloved sci-fi franchise.
Other “Lost” principals have been involved in the “Star Wars” galaxy – “Lost” co-creator J.J. Abrams directed “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.” Damon Lindelof, who co-created “Lost” with Abrams and who served as showrunner alongside Cuse, was writing a Rey-centered spinoff film but was replaced by another creative team.

If you found Andor Season 1 methodically paced, prepare for an even slower crawl in Season 2. Structured in four chapters of three episodes each, the first half moves at a frustratingly deliberate pace, focusing on new political entanglements rather than jumping straight into action. But stick with it—the payoff in the final episodes is worth the wait, culminating in a finale that begs for a rewatch of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

The 2016 film “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” was a critical and commercial success at the time, but hasn’t had much staying power in the cultural consciousness. A prequel to “A New Hope” extrapolated from that movie’s iconic opening crawl, “Rogue One” was vestigial by design. The subtitle also announced the project as one of a planned series of standalone films to pad out Disney’s release schedule; when that effort fizzled along with beleaguered origin story “Solo,” “Rogue One” was left marooned as a largely forgotten blip.
One of the many, many impressive accomplishments in “Andor,” the Disney+ series that will conclude its two-season run in the coming weeks, is that it retroactively transforms “Rogue One” from a trivial footnote into a thrilling conclusion. A prequel to a prequel named for a protagonist who (spoiler alert!) dies in a successful attempt to steal the plans for the Death Star,...

Plot: The second season takes place as the horizon of war draws near and Cassian becomes a key player in the Rebel Alliance. Everyone will be tested and, as the stakes rise, the betrayals, sacrifices and conflicting agendas will become profound. Rife with political intrigue and danger, Andor sets the clock back five years from the events of Rogue One to tell the story of the film’s hero, Cassian Andor, and his transformation from disinterested, cynical nobody into a rebel hero on his way to an epic destiny.

Andor is a perfect example of history repeating itself — not just in terms of the quality or excitement of another season of Disney+’s greatest series, but in how its stunning themes and subtext perfectly mirror what unfolds daily in today’s news cycle. While Andor takes over two years to make, it doesn’t just reflect the past — it is a kind of soothsayer.
From the galactically entertaining Andor season opener to episode nine — possibly the finest hour Disney+ has ever produced — the season takes a sweeping look at the ever-expanding forces of authoritarianism: the erosion of civil rights, the undermining of peaceful transfers of power, the spread of propaganda, attacks on the free press, and colonialism.

Diego Luna debuted the character of Cassian Andor in the 2016 film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. He reprised the role in the Disney+ show Andor, which took us through Cassian's life before he was an Intelligence Officer with the Rebel Alliance.
Season 1 of the series dealt with Cassian's introduction to the Rebellion and what he went through to start believing in the cause. Season 2 will show us his early days of opposing the Empire and the struggles and grief that come with it.

Andor Season 1 distinguished itself as one of the most celebrated Star Wars properties to come out in quite some time. The show was able to take the IP in a more mature direction, something that Star Wars had not previously done. This was widely applauded by fans and critics alike.

Andor may be ending its critically acclaimed run with season two, but lead actors Diego Luna and Adria Arjona both have a very specific story they’d come back to tell.
The original plan for the Tony Gilroy-created Disney+ series was to produce five seasons of Cassian Andor’s five-year evolution into the Rebel hero who makes the ultimate sacrifice in 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. However, after making season one, Gilroy and Luna both realized that their initial aim was too ambitious and likely required at least a decade of their lives to fulfill. As a result, Gilroy instead devised a narrative structure for season two that spans four years’ worth of time. Each block of three episodes explores a few significant days during that particular year before jumping another year to the next block of episodes. Kathleen Kennedyserves as President of Lucasfilm and has been a producer on some of your favorite films. But the woman in charge of Star Warshas also faced her fair share of rumors and noise. More recently, a report came out that stated that Kennedy was retiring from the company and certain "fans" within the Star Wars franchise were excited to see who would take over after Kennedy. Quickly after the report, Kennedy announced that she had no plans of retiring and that was the last fans heard of it.
At Star Wars Celebrationin Japan, ScreenRant's Ash Crossan was speaking to Kennedy in a shared media suite with Colliderwhen she asked Kennedy about the news. Kennedy, to her credit, made it very clear that she was not planning on going anywhere. When Crossan asked her, Kennedy replied "I'm not retired. I'm not going anywhere." The second and final season of Star Wars: Andor will connect Cassian Andor's (Diego Luna) backstory with the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Last we saw the scavenger-turned-mercenary-turned-spy, he convinced Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgard) to make him a part of his secret rebel network. The new season will tell us how he goes from there to becoming a revered Intelligence Officer of the Rebel Alliance, working closely with Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly), Bail Organa (Jimmy Smits), and other Republic-loyalist Senators.
Given the hard-edged storytelling of both Rogue One and Andor, fans are used to seeing onscreen deaths that pull no punches. Be it Cassian's Aldhani allies or Jyn Erso's (Felicity Jones) mother or the entire Rogue One crew, people die without an emotional or heroic sendoff. Season 2 is expected to be no different.

Universal Pictures has released a brand new featurette for their upcoming summer blockbuster Jurassic World Rebirth, featuring some never-before-seen new footage and revealing how the new film is more connected to the original than any of the previous sequels.
Outside of the main cast of characters returning to Isla Nublar - the island where the original film takes place - the most prominent way the film connects back to the original is by bringing back Jurassic Park and The Lost World: Jurassic Park scribe David Koepp.
In the new featurette, Koepp teases the T-Rex riverboat sequence, which promises to be one of the upcoming film's most thrilling moments and a scene that has has essentially been thirty years in the making.
The cast features Scarlett Johansson (Lost in Translation; Marriage Story; Black Widow), Mahershala Ali (Moonlight; Green Book; True Detective), Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton; Fellow Travelers; Crashing), Rupert Friend (Homeland; Anatomy of a Scandal...

It’s been 20 years since Genevieve O’Reilly was first cast as Mon Mothma in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. Her scenes were cut from that film, but her journey with the character didn’t end there. Now, as Andor season 2 gets ready to premiere, O’Reilly says this is the story she’s always wanted to tell.
In an interview with GamesRadar+, O’Reilly shared her feelings about finally getting to explore Mon Mothma in depth. “I think Andor is the story that I always hoped for Mon Mothma. I always hoped that she could have this moment for the character, for her, for who this woman is within that universe. The 15th edition of the Beijing International Film Festival kicks off on Friday, and its competition lineup of 15 titles includes three homegrown Chinese movies.
Chinese actor-director Jiang Wen (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Let the Bullets Fly) will serve as the head of the main competition jury that will hand out the fest’s Tiantan Awards.
Here is THR‘s closer look at the three Chinese films in this year’s Beijing competition program.
Hao Ming and Li Peiran’s Better Me, Better You
Executive producer and actress Ma Li stars as Bai Liping in the drama Better Me, Better You, described as an ode to female resilience.
The star plays a caregiver from Northeastern China who leaves a life of domestic violence behind “to seek a better life in the city, only to face repeated setbacks.” In Beijing, she meets a lonely elderly woman called Tang Shuyin, portrayed by Zhao Shuzhen.

Jurassic World: Rebirth's revealing new featurette proves the film will continue to ponder the age-old question of "Just because we can, should we?" The upcoming sequel is hoping to recapture the essence of one of the greatest blockbusters of all time, Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park. The entire marketing campaign for the film, directed by Gareth Edwards, centers around the dinosaur thriller's promise to bring audiences back to the magical feeling of the original Jurassic Park. While the claims of recapturing the awe-inspiring spirit of the original are bold to say the least, a new featurette backs it up with plenty of substance.
If having the director of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and a script by original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp wasn't reassuring enough, the new, behind-the-scenes footage sure helps. The featurette shows that the team behind Jurassic World: Rebirth knows what they're talking about. It...

If you love the original Jurassic Park, Jurassic World Rebirth is the movie for you — so says the new featurette below.
“It harkens back to the first film. It’s a survival story,” says Scarlett Johansson. “We’ve really gone back to basics to imagine yourself in this circumstance on this Jurassic island.”
“I know that it will bring back the wonder of seeing Jurassic for the first time,” adds Jonathan Bailey.
“It will have a lot of humor and it will be fun, but it also has a lot of very scary, very intense moments,” teases director Gareth Edwards.
Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp returned to pen the script, which incorporates a raft sequence from Michael Crichton‘s original novel that didn’t make it into the 1993 film.
Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planet’s ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining...

Andoractors Diego Luna and Adria Arjona are drawn to very specific Star Wars original trilogy characters. The pair recently revealed the identity of their favorites and said they would love to play them if given the chance.
"Darth Vader was haunting me, you know, my childhood so, but at the same time. I don't know, there was a curiosity, you know, to actually find out what's behind the mask, that kind of thing," Luna told Cbr's Grae Drake. After some brief banter about Luna's previously unspoken connection to the Star Wars franchise's original Sith Lord, Arjona shared her choice. "I like Chewbacca," she said. "I really like Chewbacca." Luna also went on to also mention Han Solo, noting that "there's something in the whole kind of like Western approach."
Luna and Arjona are currently preparing to reprise their respective roles as Cassian Andor and Bix Caleen for the second season of Andor on Disney+.

Andor Season 2 is right around the corner, and one previous Star Wars Disney+ star has provided an update on their status in the series. Obi-Wan Kenobi premiered more than two years ago in 2022, and it featured the debut of Vivien Lyra Blair as a young Princess Leia. Blair’s role as Leia in the show was a hit among fans, and as Andor Season 2 draws closer by the day, everyone is curious about potential cameos and connections to the larger Star Wars universe. Blair recently caught up with Collider’s Maggie Lovitt to promote her new Heroes & Villains clothing collection, and she confirmed that, despite recent rumors, she will not be seen in Andor Season 2:
"Some people have talked about cameos in Andor. I, unfortunately, don't have anything in Andor Season 2, so you will not be seeing me there."

Acclaimed Andor showrunner Tony Gilroy has explained why Season 2 of the prequel series had to recast or not include some legacy characters. The events of the new installment lead directly into those of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Gilroy had hoped to bring back as many characters as possible.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the showrunner discussed mitigating factors to the fulfillment of that desire. "Legacy characters are really tricky to bring back. They're very, very expensive. A lot of times, their schedules don’t work out," he said. "There's probably a couple of people [we] wanted to have in Yavin at the end, who are in the beginning of Rogue, but we just couldn’t get them because they were busy."
Gilroy will leave the Star Wars franchise after Season 2, with the veteran director revealing in a previous interview that he wanted to move on to other projects.

The Beijing International Film Festival has developed a reputation for putting a spotlight on female voices in cinema.
Its 15th edition, running April 18-26, is continuing that trend with its sixth annual “Women’s Voice” section, featuring the likes of Walter Salles’ Oscar winner I’m Still Here, the political autobiographical drama starring Fernanda Torres as a Brazilian woman whose dissident husband disappears, and Mike Leigh’s Hard Truths, his depression comedy-drama with Marianne Jean-Baptiste.
“In recent years, female creators and their stories have continued to emerge, and the voices of women on screen have become more diverse and powerful,” the Beijing festival highlights. “These works continue to break boundaries in form and theme, bringing us richer and more multidimensional female expressions.”

Andor is set to return to Disney+ for its highly-anticipated second (and final) season on April 22, and Lucasfilm has now released the first official clip from the three-episode premiere.
In this action-packed preview, we see Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) attempting to escape from an Imperial facility (possibly a Star Destroyer) after commandeering a Tie Fighter. As Stormtroopers rush into the hangar and begin to open fire, Andor figures out how to use the craft's weapons and cuts down most of his enemies.
Only one bazooka-wielding trooper remains, but Andor is out of missiles.

With Andor Season 2 right around the corner and Star Wars Celebration set to kick off this weekend, there’s no better time to be invested in stories from a Galaxy Far, Far Away. Andor Season 2 will pick up the story of Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), the lone ranger who goes from a scoundrel to one of the core figures in the early days of the Rebellion. Andor is a prequel series to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and while Season 1 was mostly lacking connections to the film, Season 2 will begin to weave some threads together. We know that K-2So (Alan Tudyk) and Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn) will appear, but during a recent interview with THR, Andor creator Tony Gilroy spoke about the complexities of adding legacy characters to the cast:

Andor showrunner Tony Gilroy had already written most of season two by the time season one became the most well-reviewed Star Wars title of the Disney era. The series about how small-time thief Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) became a Rebel hero in time for his ultimate sacrifice in 2016’s Rogue One was so well-received that one of the audience’s only quibbles actually pertained to the minimal number of alien characters. (Season two noticeably makes up for it.) But despite having the second 12-episode story planned out in detail, the road to the finish line became far more challenging than anybody ever expected.
For starters, in the months leading up to Andor’s series premiere in September 2022, Wall Street fell out of love with streaming, resulting in a major market correction that no longer valued subscriber growth projections. Consequently, Disney had to make some tough choices about Disney+ going forward.

The struggle against the Empire continues. Three years after the first season of Andor redefined what a modern Star Wars show could be, the Disney+ series about the early days of the Rebel Alliance is finally returning for Season 2. Since creator and showrunner Tony Gilroy has crafted such a detail-oriented story, it’s understandable if we all need a refresher on where we left off with Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) and his comrades and the Imperial officers trying to stop them.

Andor's success would be nothing without several key factors, including Diego Luna's committed performance. So it's not surprising that showrunner Tony Gilroy and actor Genevieve O'Reilly have nothing but praise for Luna's tenure as Cassian Andor.
"Diego just gives you the instant gravitas," Gilroy said, in a brand-new promo released by the official Star Wars YouTube channel. "We never would've gotten involved in the show in the first place if it wasn't for him." O'Reilly also praised Luna as "the perfect lead," calling his depiction of the rebel spy's pre-Rogue One: A Star Wars Story's self "as wonderfully gritty and nuanced as the show. I am in awe of how he does it so subtly, charismatically, and beautifully."
Along with behind-the-scenes footage of Season 2's production, Luna talked about what it's been like playing Cassian for nearly a decade and transforming him into someone truly devoted to the Rebel Alliance's cause.

I am in awe of how he does it so subtly, charismatically, and beautifully."
Along with behind-the-scenes footage of Season 2's production, Luna talked about what it's been like playing Cassian for nearly a decade and transforming him into someone truly devoted to the Rebel Alliance's cause.

Diego Luna has finished filming his final season as Cassian Andor. Speaking at the Andor Season 2 premiere in Los Angeles, the actor reflected on what it meant to leave the role he’s played since Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in 2016.
“I said goodbye to this character when we wrapped,” Luna said. “I had a beautiful opportunity to talk to the crew, to talk to the cast. [Creator] Tony Gilroy gave these beautiful words, we had a drink, we hugged, we cried. I’m going to miss this family.”
Set to premiere April 22 on Disney+, the second season picks up a year after the uprising on Ferrix. Cassian is now working directly with Luthen Rael. According to Luna, the character is no longer uncertain about his role. “He’s working for Luthen’s team and he’s been quite successful. He’s been given a lot of responsibilities now, so...

The two halves of a rather odd couple each play important and distinct roles in Season 2 of Andor, the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story prequel series that returns Tuesday, April 22 at 9/8c (with weekly, 3-episode drops).
Season 1 of the acclaimed drama built to a climax at the funeral for the titular Cassian Andor’s (Diego Luna) mother. In a pre-recorded hologram, Maarva delivered a final rallying cry — “Fight the Empire!” — at which point the crowd pressed on toward the front line of Imperial soldiers, and a melee ensued.

Diego Luna is grateful to be a part of Star Wars as a character who represents the common man but admits he finds the dark side alluring.
The actor gave Vanity Fair a lengthy interview and discussed his career so far, expressing his emotions about the final season of Andor. The acclaimed Disney+ series allowed him to explore the backstory of his Rogue One: A Star Wars Story character in detail. It's the opportunity of a lifetime to play a guy who discovers the power he holds to change the world.
While Cassian isn't the typical lightsaber-wielding Star Wars hero, he represents the "downtrodden". To Luna, Andor represents a guy who discovers "that any revolution starts with yourself".
For me, what I want to do is get involved in things that are important to me.Diego Luna.
The actor admits he wouldn't take a role that doesn't reflect our reality.
