A few months ago, rumours swirled that Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy was gearing up to step down from her executive role. The news was welcomed by Star Wars fans who have lost faith in Kennedy's vision for the franchise, though she'd later rein in expectations.

To recap, Kennedy joined Lucasfilm as co-chair alongside Star Wars creator George Lucas in 2012 and later took over following his exit when Disney acquired the company for $4 billion.

Initially, Kennedy found great success in the role. Star Wars: The Force Awakens was a box office hit that grossed $2 billion worldwide. Some fans weren't happy with the movie, but it was a critical success and, two years later, The Last Jedi was another win for the studio. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story also grossed over $1 billion in 2016 and received positive reviews despite creative issues behind the scenes.

Fresh off Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo, the Rebel Alliance continues with the premiere of the second and final season of Andor, now the highest-rated Star Wars title.

The prequel series takes place five years before the events in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and features original film star Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, the thief-turned-rebel leader. Andor also stars Stellan Skarsgard, Genevieve O’Reilly, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, Fiona Shaw and Kyle Soller; Alan Tudyk joins the cast in season two as the modified security droid K-2So.

At Andor‘s season two premiere at Star Wars Celebration, Luna told The Hollywood Reporter, “It’s so big in every possible way. There’s more adventure, action and drama. We’re getting close to Rogue One, so everything matters so much.

Lost showrunner Carlton Cuse, along with his son Nick, are working on a new Star Wars series for Disney/Lucasfilm, it’s been announced.

After a lengthy wait, Andor season 2 has begun streaming in certain territories (the UK gets it on the 23rd April). Meanwhile, Lucasfilm appears to be planning other small screen adventures in the Star Wars franchise.

Several outlets – including Variety – are reporting that Carlton Cuse, perhaps best known as the showrunner of hit ABC series Lost, is currently in the early stages of developing a new Star Wars TV series. Cuse is said to be making the show with his son Nick, writer on the likes of the 2019 Watchmen series or Masters Of The Air.

Besides that, absolutely nothing is known about what the Cuses are working on. This means we’ll have to write about some other semi-related things in order to make this news story look a bit more substantial.

The Star Wars Celebration 2025 took place April 18-20 at the Makuhari Messe Convention Center in Tokyo, Japan. The 16th bi-annual event was attended by more than 105,000 people, making it the largest Star Wars Celebration to date.

Guests were treated to 26 hours of panels on the three main stages. This year’s event included the announcement of a new standalone Star Wars film with Ryan Gosling, a panel for The Mandalorian and Grogu starring Pedro Pascal, and a preview of season two of Andor.

The 2023 Celebration was held in London, and 2027’s fan event is set for April 1-4 in Los Angeles. The 2027 Celebration will coincide with the 50th anniversary of Star Wars: A New Hope.

Diego Luna debuted the character of Cassian Andor in the 2016 film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. He reprised the role in the Disney+ show Andor, which took us through Cassian's life before he was an Intelligence Officer with the Rebel Alliance.

Andor Season 1 distinguished itself as one of the most celebrated Star Wars properties to come out in quite some time. The show was able to take the IP in a more mature direction, something that Star Wars had not previously done. This was widely applauded by fans and critics alike.

With the second and final season of Andor set to premiere next week, the first reactions have been shared on social media following the show's Star Wars Celebration panel, and by all accounts, this season is even stronger than the first.

Andor is still widely viewed as the best Disney+ Star Wars series, and if these reactions are any indication, Lucasfilm, Tony Gilroy and co. have managed to surpass the acclaimed first season on every level.

As Andorgears up for its second season premiere on April 22, one of its stars is applauding the way women are depicted in the Disney+ Rogue Oneprequel series. Genevieve O’Reilly, who portrays Mon Mothma in Andor,talked with Cbr’s Grae Drake at Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Tokyo about the positive way women are represented in the show.

“I have to bring up Tony (Gilroy) here, because he’s written a cast of brilliant women,” O’Reilly said of Andor creator/showrunner Tony Gilroy. “There are many of us in this show, both in Season 1 and Season 2, so what that allows us to do, is not just to play the woman. We get to be the women,” she continued.

Thousands of devoted fans at Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo were treated to an advanced screening of the season two premiere of Andor, the highly-anticipated return of Lucasfilm’s most acclaimed Disney+ show.

Ahead of the episode presentation, dozens upon dozens of fans dressed as prisoners from Narkina 5 performed a fun, and certainly less stressful, procession around the conference arena in a nod to the Andor season one episode “One Way Out.”

The original plan for the Tony Gilroy-created Disney+ series was to produce five seasons of Cassian Andor’s five-year evolution into the Rebel hero who makes the ultimate sacrifice in 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. However, after making season one, Gilroy and Luna both realized that their initial aim was too ambitious and likely required at least a decade of their lives to fulfill. As a result, Gilroy instead devised a narrative structure for season two that spans four years’ worth of time. The second and final season of Star Wars: Andor will connect Cassian Andor's (Diego Luna) backstory with the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Last we saw the scavenger-turned-mercenary-turned-spy, he convinced Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgard) to make him a part of his secret rebel network. The new season will tell us how he goes from there to becoming a revered Intelligence Officer of the Rebel Alliance, working closely with Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly), Bail Organa (Jimmy Smits), and other Republic-loyalist Senators.

Given the hard-edged storytelling of both Rogue One and Andor, fans are used to seeing onscreen deaths that pull no punches. Be it Cassian's Aldhani allies or Jyn Erso's (Felicity Jones) mother or the entire Rogue One crew, people die without an emotional or heroic sendoff. Season 2 is expected to be no different.

Universal Pictures has released a brand new featurette for their upcoming summer blockbuster Jurassic World Rebirth, featuring some never-before-seen new footage and revealing how the new film is more connected to the original than any of the previous sequels.

It’s been 20 years since Genevieve O’Reilly was first cast as Mon Mothma in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. Her scenes were cut from that film, but her journey with the character didn’t end there. Now, as Andor season 2 gets ready to premiere, O’Reilly says this is the story she’s always wanted to tell.

In an interview with GamesRadar+, O’Reilly shared her feelings about finally getting to explore Mon Mothma in depth. “I think Andor is the story that I always hoped for Mon Mothma. I always hoped that she could have this moment for the character, for her, for who this woman is within that universe. And I feel very privileged that I got the opportunity to play it [and] to play her in this moment.”

Andoractors Diego Luna and Adria Arjona are drawn to very specific Star Wars original trilogy characters. The pair recently revealed the identity of their favorites and said they would love to play them if given the chance.

"Darth Vader was haunting me, you know, my childhood so, but at the same time. I don't know, there was a curiosity, you know, to actually find out what's behind the mask, that kind of thing," Luna told Cbr's Grae Drake. After some brief banter about Luna's previously unspoken connection to the Star Wars franchise's original Sith Lord, Arjona shared her choice. "I like Chewbacca," she said. "I really like Chewbacca." Luna also went on to also mention Han Solo, noting that "there's something in the whole kind of like Western approach."

Luna and Arjona are currently preparing to reprise their respective roles as Cassian Andor and Bix Caleen for the second season of Andor on Disney+.

Andor Season 2 is right around the corner, and one previous Star Wars Disney+ star has provided an update on their status in the series. Obi-Wan Kenobi premiered more than two years ago in 2022, and it featured the debut of Vivien Lyra Blair as a young Princess Leia. Blair’s role as Leia in the show was a hit among fans, and as Andor Season 2 draws closer by the day, everyone is curious about potential cameos and connections to the larger Star Wars universe. Blair recently caught up with Collider’s Maggie Lovitt to promote her new Heroes & Villains clothing collection, and she confirmed that, despite recent rumors, she will not be seen in Andor Season 2:

"Some people have talked about cameos in Andor. I, unfortunately, don't have anything in Andor Season 2, so you will not be seeing me there."

Andor is set to return to Disney+ for its highly-anticipated second (and final) season on April 22, and Lucasfilm has now released the first official clip from the three-episode premiere.

In this action-packed preview, we see Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) attempting to escape from an Imperial facility (possibly a Star Destroyer) after commandeering a Tie Fighter. As Stormtroopers rush into the hangar and begin to open fire, Andor figures out how to use the craft's weapons and cuts down most of his enemies.

Only one bazooka-wielding trooper remains, but Andor is out of missiles.

Andor Season 2 will pick up the story of Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), the lone ranger who goes from a scoundrel to one of the core figures in the early days of the Rebellion. Andor is a prequel series to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and while Season 1 was mostly lacking connections to the film, Season 2 will begin to weave some threads together. Andor debuted its second and final season in Los Angeles on Monday night, as star Diego Luna and creator Tony Gilroy reflected on closing out the story of Cassian Andor.

The character first appeared in 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which Gilroy co-wrote; then prequel series Andor arrived in 2022, now ending in 2025.

"We never would've gotten involved in the show in the first place if it wasn't for him." O'Reilly also praised Luna as "the perfect lead," calling his depiction of the rebel spy's pre-Rogue One: A Star Wars Story's self "as wonderfully gritty and nuanced as the show. I am in awe of how he does it so subtly, charismatically, and beautifully."

Along with behind-the-scenes footage of Season 2's production, Luna talked about what it's been like playing Cassian for nearly a decade and transforming him into someone truly devoted to the Rebel Alliance's cause.

The actor gave Vanity Fair a lengthy interview and discussed his career so far, expressing his emotions about the final season of Andor. The acclaimed Disney+ series allowed him to explore the backstory of his Rogue One: A Star Wars Story character in detail. Only a few months remain until Jurassic World Rebirth marches its way to theaters, and Lego has released new sets based on the upcoming film.
