The band's signature song, "You Keep Me Hangin' On", was recorded in
one take. Other, mixed versions of it were recorded during the same
session, but Atco Records president Ahmet Ertegun insisted that the original
one-take version be the one that was put out on records--a wise move,
as the song shot to #10 on the charts immediately upon release.
