Since FX moved under the Disney umbrella in 2019, it has sometimes been difficult to find its programming; I’m a professional and I’m often stymied when it comes to which FX shows actually air on FX and which are Hulu exclusives. But FX shows have still felt like FX shows.
The new FX-produced drama Class of ’09 is a puzzlement. One of those Hulu-only offerings, Class of ’09 surely has the air and aura of an FX show, from its sturdy, cinematic production values to a cast topped by FX veterans Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta) and Kate Mara (A Teacher) to its creation by writer Tom Rob Smith (The Assassination of Gianni Versace). But what it feels like? Well, it feels like a broadcast TV show from a decade ago — specifically like ABC’s Quantico, a drama remembered largely by Priyanka Chopra Jonas devotees.

Some two months after the pilot was shot, Freeform has given a series order to Last Summer, an “unconventional thriller” that counts Jessica Biel (The Sinner) among its EPs.
Taking place during three different summers — 1993, 1994 and 1995 — Last Summer is set in a small Texas town where a beautiful and popular teen, Kate (played by Project Mc2‘s Mika Abdalla), goes missing. Seemingly unrelated, a girl named Jeanette (Tell Me Your Secrets‘ Chiara Aurelia) goes from being a sweet and awkward outlier to the most popular girl in town — and, by ’95, is the most despised person in all of America.

After more than a year on the market with an in-hindsight pie-in-the-sky initial asking price of $10.495 million that incrementally dropped to a still too aggressive $8.995 million, Jeremy Piven has engaged the services of a new, high-profile real estate agent and re-listed his beach front residence in Malibu, Calif., with a once-again reduced price of $8.5 million. The former “Entourage” star, whose CBS series “Wisdom of the Crowd” was cancelled last year during its freshman season amid mounting allegations of sexual assault, which the actor has denied, purchased the 4,404-square-foot, three-story home in 2004 for $3.5 million and the four-bedroom and 3.5-bathroom residence, along one of Malibu’s most sought after streets, according the marketing materials, had also been available in recent years as a furnished short-term rental at prices that fluctuated between $30,000 and $50,000 per month.

CBS’ The Big Bang Theory will finish the 2017-2018 TV season as the country’s most watched series with an average of 18.634 million viewers. NBC’s NFL Sunday Night Football is the season’s highest-rated series in the key 18-49 demographic, with a 6.2 rating; it also takes the No. 2 spot in overall audience (18.285M).
In the demo, NBC’s sophomore series This is Us (5.4) follows football, while Big Bang ranks No. 5 (4.4).
In a TV season that re-defined “new” and “canceled,” Roseanne was the most successful “new” series launch, ranking No. 3 in total viewers (17.815M) and in the demo (5.0). Its mid-March launch made headlines, outstripping every scripted series of the season except the post-Super Bowl episode of This Is Us.

What’s in a name? It could be a TV show’s destiny. The name of a TV series could make or break it, depending on if viewers are even willing to give it a chance. It’s a foot in the door, and sometimes that foot will get slammed if the audience is put off by its title. Remember “$#*! My Dad Says,” “Gcb,” or “The Knights of Prosperity”? There’s a reason you don’t.
For the 2017 Fall TV season, IndieWire called out four shows — “9Jkl,” “The Orville,” “Ten Days in the Valley,” and “Wisdom of the Crowd” — for their poor title choices. Of the lot, only “The Orville” survives, which may be more of a testament to the love for Seth Macfarlane and his specific brand of humor mixed with a love of “Star Trek.” Oddly enough, “The Orville” was probably the worst title of them all. Therefore,...

With Murphy Brown and Magnum P.I. as two of the six new series on the fall 2018 CBS schedule, it feels like a trip back to the 1980s at the network, which will feature five reboots next season.

On Monday, Fox unveiled the network's primetime slate for the 2018-2019 television season during its annual Programming Presentation at the Beacon Theatre.
"This year, we launched four of the Top 10 new shows on broadcast, which led to a very strong roster of young series returning for their sophomore seasons. That gives us tremendous momentum heading into the fall," said Newman and Walden. "With our increased investment in football, we're going to use the powerful platform of the NFL to launch our new comedies. We'll then take some big swings with dramas at midseason, which is a proven strategy for Fox."
The new comedies joining the lineup this fall are Rel and The Cool Kids. Inspired by the life of Lil Rel Howery, Rel is a multi-camera comedy starring Howery as a loving husband and father living in Chicago, who finds out his wife is having an affair, and must rebuild...
