As the format continues to gain traction, here’s our regularly-updated list of upcoming 4K Ultra HD disc releases in the UK.

Sitting alongside our list of upcoming DVD and Blu-ray releases (that you can find here), we’re also keeping a calendar for those who support the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc format. As we learn of new UK releases, we’ll add them to this list.

We have started adding shopping links too. We’d be obliged if you clicked on them, as it really helps us in our quest to make the Film Stories project of magazines, website and podcast profitable. We’re a 100% independent publisher, and we quite like drinking coffee. It’d be lovely to afford some more.

Lido Aldo's debut feature, the 1971 Giallo movie, Short Night of Glass Dolls, begins with the discovery of a dead body in a park. The body itself is Gregory Moore (Jean Sorel), who upon being discovered is brought to a hospital and declared dead, and yet there's something amiss. Gregory's body temperature doesn't decrease, his eyes remain open, and through internal voiceover, it becomes clear that Moore is conscious, yet paralyzed. Gregory's unable to alert any doctor or nurse that he's alive but cannot exercise any movement. As he lies in the cold morgue and the doctors question the peculiarities of his body's state, Gregory tries to figure out how exactly he got here. Hip-hop artist Mike. makes a strong debut on Rolling Stone’s Breakthrough 25 Chart, entering at Number One after having a massive month on streaming in August. In the last week of July, his album the highs. debuted Number 45 on the Rs 200 as he also made his debut on the Artists 500 Chart. But Mike., whose full name is Michael Francis Seander, didn’t lose steam in August, pulling in 22.5 million more streams than he did in July.

The Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber’s hit song “Stay” secured a sixth consecutive week atop the Rolling Stone Top 100 Songs chart for the week of August 13th through 19th.

The track racked up 28.2 million song streams to help it move a projected 231,000 units. It also became the second song of 2021 to stay at Number One for six straight weeks, following Olivia Rodrigo’s “Good 4 U.”

This week’s horror and sci-fi Blu-ray and DVD titles are an eclectic bunch, led by a pair of cult classics—Fright and Straight on Till Morning—which were both directed by Peter Collinson. Arrow Video put together a special edition release for Who Saw Her Die?, which this writer is really looking forward to checking out in the coming weeks, and Unearthed Classics is resurrecting Nightwish on both formats as well.

In terms of new films, The Velocipastor arrives on Tuesday on both Blu and DVD, and for those of you who missed it in theaters, Dark Phoenix rises again on multiple formats, and Clownado touches down this week on DVD as well.

Other notable releases for September 17th include The Night Sitter, D-Railed, The Bloody Ape, Return of the Scarecrow, and The Films of Sarah Jacobson: Mary Jane’s Not a Virgin Anymore & I Was a Teenage Serial Killer from Agfa.

Former Bond star George Lazenby headlines this classic giallo directed by Aldo Lado as compelling for its haunting atmosphere, twists and turns as for its parallels with another great Venetian horror/thriller Nicolas Roeg s Don t Look Now.

Sculptor Franco Serpieri (Lazenby) welcomes Roberta his young daughter from a failed marriage to Venice, unaware that a disturbed child-killer is stalking the city s canals. When Roberta s body is found floating face-down in the river, the lives of Franco and his estranged wife Elizabeth are ripped asunder. Released at the height of the giallo boom, this gripping mystery thriller boasts some of the most iconic names associated with the genre on both sides of the camera.

Blue Underground released the first batch titles from their Midnight Movies collection, which include a number of cult horror releases. For those that may not be familiar with some of these movies, a new trailer has been released that contains highlights from each film.

It has also been announced that a second wave of Midnight Movies will be released this August and includes two zombie and two cannibal films.

The corpse of reporter Gregory Moore (Jean Sorel of Lizard In A Woman’S Skin) is found in a Prague plaza and brought to the local morgue.

The term “giallo” initially referred to cheap yellow paperbacks (printed American mysteries from writers such as Agatha Christie), that were distributed in post-fascist Italy. Applied to cinema, the genre is comprised of equal parts early pulp thrillers, mystery novels, with a willingness to gleefully explore onscreen sex and violence in provocative, innovative ways. Giallos are strikingly different from American crime films: they value style and plot over characterization, and tend towards unapologetic displays of violence, sexual content, and taboo exploration. The genre is known for stylistic excess, characterized by unnatural yet intriguing lighting techniques, convoluted plots, red herrings, extended murder sequences, excessive bloodletting, stylish camerawork and unusual musical arrangements. Amidst the ‘creative kill’ set-pieces are thematic undercurrents along with a whodunit element, usually some sort of twist ending.
