Netflix has released a trailer for its forthcoming series Sirens, and if the streamer was going for “slightly disturbing,” then it hit the mark.
The limited series from Maid creator Molly Smith Metzler stars Meghann Fahy (The White Lotus, Drop) as a woman who comes looking for her younger sister (Milly Alcock, House of the Dragon) — only to discover she’s become ensconced in the strange world of a wealthy family. Netflix’s description reads, “Devon (Fahy) thinks her sister Simone (Alcock) has a really creepy relationship with her new boss, the enigmatic socialite Michaela Kell (Julianne Moore). Michaela’s cult-ish life of luxury is like a drug to Simone, and Devon has decided it’s time for an intervention, but she has no idea what a formidable opponent Michaela will be.”
The bass line from Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know” is looped throughout the trailer, underscoring the strange vibes.

A few days before “You” Season 5 premiered on Netflix, I went to see Christopher Landon’s “Drop” in theaters. As we emerged from the “punchy, ridiculous thriller” into broad daylight, my friends were quick to dismiss it, to engage in the common but misguided practice of conflating highbrow quality with entertainment value. “Drop” is no cinematic hallmark (though some of Marc Spicer’s shots will stay with me for a long time), but it kept me engrossed, entertained, and invested in the final outcome.
The same approach will pay off with the end of “You,” created by Sera Gamble and Greg Berlanti and brought to the bloody finish line by showrunners Michael Foley and Justin W. Lo. If you’ve stuck with the series thus far, you signed up for outrageous twists, cartoonish characters, and an exorbitant number of murders, all tied together by Penn Badgley’s bewitching performance. It’s not prestige TV,...

Universal Pictures is developing a live-action adaptation of OutRun, the long-running Sega racing video game franchise, with Michael Bay directing and producing. Sydney Sweeney is also attached as a producer. The project is being scripted by Jayson Rothwell.
Originally released in arcades in 1986, OutRun placed players behind the wheel of a sports car racing against a countdown clock while avoiding traffic and navigating split-path routes. The game became a major success for Sega and remained one of its defining properties through various home console ports and sequels.
Bay will produce the feature alongside Brad Fuller through their Platinum Dunes banner, which holds a first-look deal with Universal. Toru Nakahara, whose credits include Sonic the Hedgehog and Knuckles, is producing on behalf of Sega. Sega Corporation president Shuji Utsumi will oversee the film.
No plot details have been shared. While the original game emphasized arcade-style gameplay over narrative, it became known for its coastal settings,...

Audiences can't get enough of Sinners, as the new horror thriller not only surpassed opening weekend projections, but the final box office numbers were also higher than what was initially reported on Easter Sunday. Sinners is the fifth film from director Ryan Coogler, and his first original film not based on a true story or a pre-existing IP. With a cast led by Michael B. Jordan, great trailers, and exceptional word of mouth from both critics and audiences, Sinners rode a wave of good buzz to defy expectations and take the number one spot at the box office from A Minecraft Movie, the expected winner of the holiday weekend.
Variety reports that Sinners opened to $48 million over the Easter holiday weekend, $2.4 million above the Sunday projections, which had predicted the movie would earn $45.6 million. Not only did that put Sinners in the number one spot at the box office, but...

Ryan Coogler, the director behind "Black Panther" and "Creed," has proved himself as one of the most valuable and beloved directors in Hollywood. But while the filmmaker had asserted himself as a force to be reckoned with in the realm of franchises, his ability when it came to originals, in terms of delivering at the box office, was not a guarantee. That is no longer the case, however, as Coogler's latest, the original vampire flick "Sinners," had a downright stellar opening weekend.
Hailing from Warner Bros. and starring Michael B. Jordan in a dual role, "Sinners" opened to $48 million domestically (per Deadline), outperforming "A Minecraft Movie" to claim the top spot on the charts. The movie also pulled in a fair amount of change overseas, giving it a $63.5 million global start. "Minecraft" had topped the charts for the previous two weekends, but, while it was a close race, Coogler and...

Over the years, a lot of chemistries have blossomed between co-stars in Hollywood’s entertainment industry, with some of them, unfortunately, lasting only until the end of shoots, while others are fortunate enough to make their way into their real lives as well. But while some reported romances turn out to be true, others, not so much. Like Sydney Sweeney’s.
A little back in time, there was a lot of buzz surrounding Sweeney’s reported fling with her co-star. But it later turned out that the rumors were all a pre-planned PR stunt, since which, it has become harder to trust any possible Hollywood romance reports. This includes even Brandon Sklenar’s recent romance reports with his co-star from his upcoming flick, Drop.

Update April 20, 2025: There’s a new box-office champion for the April 18-20 weekend. Ryan Coogler's Sinners, starring Michael B. Jordan, dominated the competition with a $45.6 million debut, securing the top spot. The vampire film not only exceeded projections but achieved something no other horror film has done before. As noted by Deadline, Sinners received an A grade from CinemaScore, the first time in the tracking firm's nearly 50-year history that a horror film has earned that rating from exit audiences. Lauded film and genre classics like A Quiet Place, The Lost Boys, and The Conjuring all managed A-minus scores. Not even the Oscar-winning Get Out could get higher than that. But Sinners, one of the best-reviewed films of the year and already drawing Oscar buzz, managed to make the grade, notching a new milestone.
Meanwhile, A Minecraft Movie — widely expected to win its third consecutive weekend — settled for second place with $41.3 million.

It looks like our box office predictions for the weekend ended up coming true after all. In a surprise reversal, Sinners, which looked like it was going to have to settle for a second-place debut at the Easter box office, rallied thanks to performing stronger-than-expected on Saturday evening. As it stands, Ryan Coogler’s vampire pic will dominate the weekend box office, with a $45.6 million gross compared to A Minecraft Movie’s still potent $41 million (in its third weekend). Boasting an amazing A CinemaScore rating, word of mouth may well propel Sinners to a stateside finish north of $100 million. Notably, this is the first time a horror film has ever gotten such a strong rating, with only movies like A Quiet Place 1 & 2 managing anything north of a B in the last decade. However, it will likely be up to foreign gross to see if the film ultimately turns a profit...

Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan have found a hit on their hands with Sinners. The vampire movie, which is now playing in theaters, has reached new ground for the genre with its CinemaScore grade.
Upon the movie's debut in theaters, Sinners was scored with an A on CinemaScore, which gauges filmgoer responses after movie screenings to bestow new releases with a letter grade. Per Collider, this marks the highest-ever CinemaScore grade for an original R-rated horror movie. It's also the highest-rated film of Coogler's career, surpassing previous collaborations with Jordan including Fruitvale Station, Creed, Black Panther, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Typically, horror movies don't often draw high CinemaScore grades. Recent releases like Drop (B) and Heart Eyes (B-) were able to get some praise upon release, but fell short of reaching a B+ or higher. Getting an A grade also puts Sinners ahead of the A- scores earned...

The horror genre is currently dominating the box office. 2025 has already seen a whole slew of original films that are destined to become cult classics. The latest one is the romantic horror thriller Drop. Director Christopher Landon's latest genre affair made moviegoers' own first-date mishaps look like small inconveniences in comparison. While the film only opened up in the number five spot at the box office this past weekend, the reviews have been nothing short of glowing. Now, even though it's been in theaters for less than a week, Drop’s physical media editions are already up for pre-order.
You can pre-order Drop on a 4K/Blu-ray/Digital combo pack($27.95 Usd), a Blu-ray/Digital combo pack ($22.95) and a DVD ($17.95) thanks to Gruv.com. There's no official box art, special feature announcements or a release date yet, but we should know more once the film is close to finishing its theatrical run.

Following his standout turn in the forever controversial film It Ends with Us, Brandon Sklenar continues to rise in the ranks in Hollywood with recent hit projects on both the big and small screens. Now, there's the latest Blumhouse film Drop, hitting theaters this week and showcasing more of Sklenar's performance range — including a few surprises on the physical side. Many of them looked at us with a mixture of bewilderment and amusement, and The Rule of Jenny Pen head on a stick that I proudly held high only seemed to add to the latter. Were we protesting something (these days I consider myself to be in a constant state of protest)? Were we celebrating something? Were we not quite in our right minds?
Indeed, I had the feeling that while many of the bystanders watching from the cobblestone sidewalks and iron-railed balconies had seen a Second Line parade before, they had never seen one quite like this—one that had Babadook leaping onto a Bobcat and Frendo clowns prancing about outside of their beloved cornfields and the Boulet Brothers leading the charge with a live marching band playing the haunting tones of John Carpenter’s Halloween score. A Minecraft Movie is now the biggest blockbuster of 2025.
Warner Bros.' adaptation of the wildly popular video game continued its box-office dominance over the weekend, earning $80.6 million between April 12 and 14. Remarkably, Black's top three blockbusters are also connected to games: The Super Mario Bros. Movie ($574.9 million) in 2023, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle ($404.5 million) in 2017, and Jumanji: The Next Level ($316.8 million) in 2019. It was a surprisingly packed weekend at the box office, despite the fact that the previous weekend's champion, "A Minecraft Movie," managed to repeat atop the charts with another $80 million under its belt. At the same time, we had a handful of new movies opening this weekend including A24's war drama "Warfare," Rami Malek's action-thriller "The Amateur," and Blumhouse's new horror/thriller "Drop." However, it was an animated, faith-based movie starring Oscar Isaac that came out on top of the rest of the weekend's newcomers.
Angel Studios' "The King of Kings," an animated retelling of the story of Jesus based loosely on Charles Dickens' "The Life of Our Lord," opened to a bigger-than-expected $19.3 million domestically. That came very close to challenging "Sound of Freedom" ($19.6 million) for Angel's biggest opening weekend to date. That movie went on to become a word-of-mouth sensation, pulling in nearly $185 million domestically and more than $250 million globally.

Director Christopher Landon returns with high-concept suspense thriller Drop, which cleverly combines the anxiety of a first date with the type of unseen assailant threat familiar from films like Phone Booth, Grand Piano and the more recent Carry On. As such, it’s hugely enjoyable, and the sort of movie where the ridiculous contrivance is a big part of the fun.
After a tense prologue, which isn’t explained until later and could either be a flashback or a flash-forward, Drop opens with single mother Violet nervously preparing for a first date, encouraged by her younger sister Jen (Violett Beane), who will be babysitting Violet’s 5 year-old son Toby (Jacob Robinson) for the evening. Spoiler Warning: This story contains plot details from “Drop,” now playing in theaters.
Meghann Fahy is a busy woman. She’s spent the last few weeks crisscrossing the country to promote “Drop,” her first starring role in a major movie. The Blumhouse-Universal movie debuted at SXSW last month, and Fahy’s been on the go ever since.
“It was a whirlwind,” Fahy tells Variety on Friday afternoon from New York, sounding a bit relieved to see the movie, directed by “Happy Death Day’s” Christopher Landon, finally launching in theaters. “I’m so happy that we were able to make it all work.”
Just a few days before this interview, Fahy waltzed the red carpet at the Tcl Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles with her parents in tow.

A Minecraft Movie has completed its second weekend in theaters with a behemoth box office total. The video game adaptation led by Jack Black added another $80 million to its domestic box office total this weekend, and it now sits at $280 million at the domestic box office. Pair that with $269 million internationally, and the film has earned just over $550 million worldwide, making it the second-highest-grossing movie of the year. This $280 million at the domestic box office is enough to make Minecraft one of the top 25 highest-grossing Warner Bros. movies ever, sitting at #24 at the time of writing after recently passing The Hangover. A Minecraft Movie has also out-earned Captain America: Brave New World at the box office after less than two full weeks in theaters.

After claiming first place last weekend by a margin of $149.7 million, A Minecraft Movie managed to hold onto the top spot again this weekend, but only by $61.5 million.
In its second weekend of release, Warner Brothers’ A Minecraft Movie took in $80.6 million, bringing its two-week total to $281.1 million. This was more than enough to best second-place The King of Kings, which debuted this weekend with a total of $19.1 million for Angel Studios. Meanwhile, The Amateur claimed third place with its $15 million debut for 20th Century Studios. Just behind that, with $8.3 million earned over the weekend was A24’s Warfare which claimed fourth place in its first weekend of release. The fourth new film in the top ten, Drop, debuted in fifth place with $7.5 million taken in for Universal Pictures International (Upi).
The final debut of the weekend, The Chosen: Last Supper Part 3 finished in sixth place with $5.8 million taken in over the last three days.

The Oscar Isaac-led animated filmThe King of Kings, which depicts the life of Jesus Christ through Charles Dickens telling a story, has broken a few records. The King of Kings is a South Korean animated film acquired by the faith-based production company Angel Studios, who made waves in 2023 by acquiring the surprise hit Sound of Freedom. The King of Kings features a stacked voice cast that includes Oscar Isaac, Kenneth Branagh, Uma Thurman, Pierce Brosnan, Mark Hamill, Ben Kingsley, and Forest Whitaker, to name a few, and opening a week before Easter has paid off.

A Minecraft Movie continued to "Notch" out its utter dominance at the box office en route to repeating as the No. 1 film for the second weekend in a row. Jason Momoa and Jack Black's team-up in the adaptation of the immensely popular video game franchise faced off against several newcomers over the second weekend of April, but none of those movie titles put up any real threat of dethroning director Jared Hess' family-friendly fantasy adventure.
No. 1 A Minecraft Movie brought in an estimated $80.6 million to not only reign supreme over the weekend, but the Momoa and Black-led flick also continued its worldwide dominance by increasing its global total to $550.6 million. The film’s overwhelming financial success has helped Minecraft not only recoup its $150 million production budget and turn a profit for Warner Bros. Pictures, but it also aided the adventure in climbing the worldwide box office chart for video game adaptations.

After the most successful opening weekend of 2025 at the box office, A Minecraft Movie isn't stopping. The video game adaptation of the popular game Minecraft has been a success despite poor reviews from critics and other criticism.
In its opening film, the Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment new adaptation earned twice its budget in its opening weekend alone. The movie was made on $150 million, and in its first three days, it had already covered its investment and was on its way to profit with $313 million globally. Per Deadline, A Minecraft Movie's dominance continues as it became the highest-grossing film of the year from Hollywood.
In just two weekends, A Minecraft Movie grossed $550.6 million worldwide, with $269.6 million of it from international markets, after breaking records for its lead stars. This pushed the adaptation above Captain America: Brave New World, which had been topping the domestic box office since its Feb.

As expected, A Minecraft Movie dominated the box office this weekend. It only fell a modest 51% in week two for $80.6 million over the three-day weekend, which is about what we predicted earlier this week. It’s a terrific showing for a movie no one seemed sure there was an audience for, but it has seemingly grabbed the cultural zeitgeist in a way that’s hard to reverse engineer. It’s undoubtedly a huge win for Warner Bros, with them also opening the buzzy Ryan Coogler vampire epic, Sinners, this coming weekend. If they get two hits in a row, suddenly their iffy box office track record for 2025 will start to look much better.
This weekend, another box office success story has to be Angel Studios’ King of Kings, with them posting their biggest hit since Sound of Freedom, with the animated biblical epic scoring a $19.05 million weekend. The studio, which...

Will “A Minecraft Movie” become the year’s first blockbuster to join the billion-dollar club?
Well, Warner Bros. and Legendary’s PG video game adaptation is certainly on its way to the elusive $1 billion mark as ticket sales soared past $500 million after two weekends of release. So far, “Minecraft” has generated a massive $550.6 million globally, including $269.6 million at the international box office and $281 million domestically. It’s already the highest grossing film of the year, ahead of Disney and Marvel’s “Captain America: Brave New World”.
Over the weekend, “A Minecraft Movie” added another $79.6 million from 76 international markets, declining 45% from its overseas debut. Top territories include the United Kingdom ($39.8 million), China ($20.3 million), Germany ($18.9 million) and Mexico ($18.7 million).
Disney and 20th Century’s vigilante thriller “The Amateur” started strongest among newcomers with $17.2 million from 52 territories. France was the highest-grossing market with $1.6 million, followed by the U.K. with $1.4 million and Mexico with $1.4 million.

While a franchise title still leads the box office with Warner Bros./Legendary’s “A Minecraft Movie” continuing its excellent run, a quartet of new releases is filling out the rest of the top 5, and none of them are sequels.
“Minecraft” is proving that it is not a frontloaded title at all with an $80.6 million second weekend, a total that was considered to be an optimistic outcome for its opening weekend in initial pre-release projections. But with millions of younger moviegoers excited to see the film thanks to memes and viral videos taken in theaters, it is proving to be the spring hit that theaters were starving for in March.
Overseas grosses are just as strong with $79.6 million, giving “Minecraft” a $269.6 million overseas total led by $39.8 million from the UK. Combined with $281 million from domestic theaters, the film has a running total of $550 million and is on pace to become Warner’s eighth $1 billion hit,...

Brandon Sklenar is starring in Universal's Drop, he starred opposite Blake Livelyin It Ends With Us, and he is getting ready to star opposite Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried in the upcoming film The Housemaid. Oh and he split his head open on the set of 1923. Sklenar played Spencer Dutton on two seasons of the hit Paramount+ series, starring as the nephew of Harrison Ford's Jacob Dutton. The series was a spin-off of the fan favorite Yellowstoneand made Sklenar a star. But it also left him with a scar.
Sklenar was doing an interview with Sweeney for Interview Magazine when she asked him a series of spitfire questions. One question was the last thing he googled, which distracted Sklenar for most of the questions, but another question was the dumbest way he injured himself on set. "Splitting my own head open with a helmet shooting a scene in 1923. That was pretty dumb,...

When Christopher Landon was announced as taking over the directorial reigns of the "Scream" franchise from Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gilpin of Radio Silence, it felt like the perfect passing of the torch to a person who was always meant to be at the helm of a Ghostface vs. Sidney Prescott showdown. "Some people don't know this, but one of the reasons why I was so excited to do 'Scream 7' was because I was an intern at the company that made the original 'Scream,'" he told me during an interview with Fangoria Magazine.
It was 1995, and Landon was tasked with reading a spec horror script from an at-the-time unknown writer named Kevin Williamson. It only took him a few pages of reading before he knew he had to convince his supervisor to buy it. Becoming the director of "Scream 7" was the kind of full circle career moment Hollywood loves,...

The box office juggernaut that is A Minecraft Movie shows no signs of slowing down this weekend. So far, it’s performing in line with what we predicted earlier this week, with a superb $80 million weekend and a drop of only 51%, which is a terrific result for a movie that opened as well as it did. The even better news for WB is that with Easter Weekend coming, family audiences will no doubt keep it performing at an incredibly high level. Warner Bros, who looked to be on the verge of calamity just a few weeks ago, should have a great holiday with the well-reviewed Sinners on track for a good opening, too. It really goes to show you that the whole business can pretty much change just on the merits of one unexpected hit at the box office, with no one expecting A Minecraft Movie to blow up the way that it did.

Hot off the release of its first two installments, The Chosen’s fifth season is now playing in its entirety in theaters. This week saw the debut of The Chosen: Last Supper - Part 3, after the two previous parts generated a combined total of around $30 million and pushed the franchise past the $100 million mark. This was made possible only because of the devoted support shown by the series’ core fan-base. The momentum seems to be continuing with Last Supper - Part 3, which, like the previous entries, debuted to a near-immaculate response from audiences. Fathom Entertainment is building towards the Easter weekend, when all three chapters will be available to watch independently or as a whole.
Last Supper - Part 3debuted with a near-perfect 99% audience score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes. Last Supper - Part 1 and Last Supper - Part 2 also hold 99% audience scores, which makes this an unprecedented achievement of sorts.
