Netflix has released a trailer for its forthcoming series Sirens, and if the streamer was going for “slightly disturbing,” then it hit the mark.

The limited series from Maid creator Molly Smith Metzler stars Meghann Fahy (The White Lotus, Drop) as a woman who comes looking for her younger sister (Milly Alcock, House of the Dragon) — only to discover she’s become ensconced in the strange world of a wealthy family. Netflix’s description reads, “Devon (Fahy) thinks her sister Simone (Alcock) has a really creepy relationship with her new boss, the enigmatic socialite Michaela Kell (Julianne Moore). Michaela’s cult-ish life of luxury is like a drug to Simone, and Devon has decided it’s time for an intervention, but she has no idea what a formidable opponent Michaela will be.”

Warner Bros.’ “A Minecraft Movie” continued its blockbuster run at the U.K. and Ireland box office over the Easter weekend, adding £5.3 million ($7 million) in its third frame, according to Comscore. The video game-inspired hit has now amassed a towering $60.2 million, securing its place as one of the highest-grossing releases of the year so far.

Universal Pictures is developing a live-action adaptation of OutRun, the long-running Sega racing video game franchise, with Michael Bay directing and producing. Sydney Sweeney is also attached as a producer. The project is being scripted by Jayson Rothwell.

Originally released in arcades in 1986, OutRun placed players behind the wheel of a sports car racing against a countdown clock while avoiding traffic and navigating split-path routes. The game became a major success for Sega and remained one of its defining properties through various home console ports and sequels.

Bay will produce the feature alongside Brad Fuller through their Platinum Dunes banner, which holds a first-look deal with Universal. Toru Nakahara, whose credits include Sonic the Hedgehog and Knuckles, is producing on behalf of Sega. Sega Corporation president Shuji Utsumi will oversee the film.

Jordan, dominated the competition with a $45.6 million debut, securing the top spot. The vampire film not only exceeded projections but achieved something no other horror film has done before. As noted by Deadline, Sinners received an A grade from CinemaScore, the first time in the tracking firm's nearly 50-year history that a horror film has earned that rating from exit audiences. Lauded film and genre classics like A Quiet Place, The Lost Boys, and The Conjuring all managed A-minus scores. Not even the Oscar-winning Get Out could get higher than that. But Sinners, one of the best-reviewed films of the year and already drawing Oscar buzz, managed to make the grade, notching a new milestone.

As it stands, Ryan Coogler’s vampire pic will dominate the weekend box office, with a $45.6 million gross compared to A Minecraft Movie’s still potent $41 million (in its third weekend). Boasting an amazing A CinemaScore rating, word of mouth may well propel Sinners to a stateside finish north of $100 million. Notably, this is the first time a horror film has ever gotten such a strong rating, with only movies like A Quiet Place 1 & 2 managing anything north of a B in the last decade. The horror genre is currently dominating the box office. 2025 has already seen a whole slew of original films that are destined to become cult classics. The latest one is the romantic horror thriller Drop. Director Christopher Landon's latest genre affair made moviegoers' own first-date mishaps look like small inconveniences in comparison. While the film only opened up in the number five spot at the box office this past weekend, the reviews have been nothing short of glowing. Now, even though it's been in theaters for less than a week, Drop’s physical media editions are already up for pre-order.

Directed by Jared Hess, the film’s domestic total now stands at an impressive $280.9 million, surpassing Disney/Marvel's Captain America: Brave New World ($199.9 million) to take the crown as 2025's top movie so far.

After just 10 days in theaters, A Minecraft Movie has already become the fourth-biggest box-office hit of Jack Black's career. Remarkably, Black's top three blockbusters are also connected to games: The Super Mario Bros. Movie ($574.9 million) in 2023, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle ($404.5 million) in 2017, and Jumanji: The Next Level ($316.8 million) in 2019. At the same time, we had a handful of new movies opening this weekend including A24's war drama "Warfare," Rami Malek's action-thriller "The Amateur," and Blumhouse's new horror/thriller "Drop." However, it was an animated, faith-based movie starring Oscar Isaac that came out on top of the rest of the weekend's newcomers.

Angel Studios' "The King of Kings," an animated retelling of the story of Jesus based loosely on Charles Dickens' "The Life of Our Lord," opened to a bigger-than-expected $19.3 million domestically. That came very close to challenging "Sound of Freedom" ($19.6 million) for Angel's biggest opening weekend to date. After claiming first place last weekend by a margin of $149.7 million, A Minecraft Movie managed to hold onto the top spot again this weekend, but only by $61.5 million.

In its second weekend of release, Warner Brothers’ A Minecraft Movie took in $80.6 million, bringing its two-week total to $281.1 million. This was more than enough to best second-place The King of Kings, which debuted this weekend with a total of $19.1 million for Angel Studios. Meanwhile, The Amateur claimed third place with its $15 million debut for 20th Century Studios. Just behind that, with $8.3 million earned over the weekend was A24’s Warfare which claimed fourth place in its first weekend of release. The fourth new film in the top ten, Drop, debuted in fifth place with $7.5 million taken in for Universal Pictures International (Upi).

The final debut of the weekend, The Chosen: Last Supper Part 3 finished in sixth place with $5.8 million taken in over the last three days.

The Oscar Isaac-led animated filmThe King of Kings, which depicts the life of Jesus Christ through Charles Dickens telling a story, has broken a few records. The King of Kings is a South Korean animated film acquired by the faith-based production company Angel Studios, who made waves in 2023 by acquiring the surprise hit Sound of Freedom. The King of Kings features a stacked voice cast that includes Oscar Isaac, Kenneth Branagh, Uma Thurman, Pierce Brosnan, Mark Hamill, Ben Kingsley, and Forest Whitaker, to name a few, and opening a week before Easter has paid off.

Deadline reports that The King of Kings brought in $19 million in its opening weekend, taking the number two spot at the box office behind A Minecraft Movie. As expected, A Minecraft Movie dominated the box office this weekend. It only fell a modest 51% in week two for $80.6 million over the three-day weekend, which is about what we predicted earlier this week. It’s a terrific showing for a movie no one seemed sure there was an audience for, but it has seemingly grabbed the cultural zeitgeist in a way that’s hard to reverse engineer. It’s undoubtedly a huge win for Warner Bros, with them also opening the buzzy Ryan Coogler vampire epic, Sinners, this coming weekend. If they get two hits in a row, suddenly their iffy box office track record for 2025 will start to look much better.

Well, Warner Bros. and Legendary’s PG video game adaptation is certainly on its way to the elusive $1 billion mark as ticket sales soared past $500 million after two weekends of release. So far, “Minecraft” has generated a massive $550.6 million globally, including $269.6 million at the international box office and $281 million domestically. It’s already the highest grossing film of the year, ahead of Disney and Marvel’s “Captain America: Brave New World”.

Over the weekend, “A Minecraft Movie” added another $79.6 million from 76 international markets, declining 45% from its overseas debut. Top territories include the United Kingdom ($39.8 million), China ($20.3 million), Germany ($18.9 million) and Mexico ($18.7 million).

Disney and 20th Century’s vigilante thriller “The Amateur” started strongest among newcomers with $17.2 million from 52 territories. France was the highest-grossing market with $1.6 million, followed by the U.K. with $1.4 million and Mexico with $1.4 million.

While a franchise title still leads the box office with Warner Bros./Legendary’s “A Minecraft Movie” continuing its excellent run, a quartet of new releases is filling out the rest of the top 5, and none of them are sequels.

So far, it’s performing in line with what we predicted earlier this week, with a superb $80 million weekend and a drop of only 51%, which is a terrific result for a movie that opened as well as it did. The even better news for WB is that with Easter Weekend coming, family audiences will no doubt keep it performing at an incredibly high level. Warner Bros, who looked to be on the verge of calamity just a few weeks ago, should have a great holiday with the well-reviewed Sinners on track for a good opening, too. It really goes to show you that the whole business can pretty much change just on the merits of one unexpected hit at the box office, with no one expecting A Minecraft Movie to blow up the way that it did.

Hot off the release of its first two installments, The Chosen’s fifth season is now playing in its entirety in theaters. This week saw the debut of The Chosen: Last Supper - Part 3, after the two previous parts generated a combined total of around $30 million and pushed the franchise past the $100 million mark. This was made possible only because of the devoted support shown by the series’ core fan-base. The momentum seems to be continuing with Last Supper - Part 3, which, like the previous entries, debuted to a near-immaculate response from audiences. Fathom Entertainment is building towards the Easter weekend, when all three chapters will be available to watch independently or as a whole.
