I remember being shown a podcast by a professor in college, which in my memory was on This American Life, but totally may not have been. In this episode the subject discussed was the gap that exist in every artists early career (generally before we see their work displayed publicly) between their taste and their abilities. When you first start out, the frustration that the gap creates forces some to stop creating entirely, and pushes others to work on closing it.
This is the first film I have purposefully made publicly available, and been credited online with my full given name. The reason for this is that I feel like I have finally closed the gap at least enough that my frustration has subsided. This is the first work that I felt like came out how I intended. It is not perfect. I rarely think short films are perfect, generally they show off the ambitions and talents of upcoming and aspiring feature-filmmakers. However despite it not being perfect, my rating reflects my pride in the piece as its creator, and my satisfaction with the minimal distance between intention and end result.
