After thirty years I decide to watch 12 Monkeys again, to see if it aged well. At the time it was a movie I enjoyed a lot and now thirty years later I can say I still enjoyed watching it. Terry Gilliam has a vivid fantasy, he made some great movies and this one is one of them. His Monty Python period is over and since then he directed some very good movies. In 12 Monkeys it's all about Madeleine Stowe, Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt, the three main actors that made this sci-fi entertaining. Good acting from all of them. It's for sure not an easy story, you have to stay focussed all the time if you don't want to lose the plot. But since I remembered a lot of this movie it became much clearer than the first time I watched it. Later they made a series about it but the movie is in my opinion better. You could say 12 Monkeys has its place in the classics of this genre.
I never heard of Hunt For The Wilderpeople before. I stumbled on it whilst browsing in a list with one hundred movies worth watching. It's definitely a movie worth watching, certainly if you like an adventurous drama with mild humour and good nature scenes. The beautiful landscapes, a touching and heartwarming story, and good acting are the main ingredients of this movie. Sam Neill plays the older lonely guy and he is accompanied by Julian Dennison, the young small delinquent with a wild fantasy and everything to learn. Together they go on a journey through the bush whilst being chased by the authorities. It's all good entertainment and well made.
Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly together in a movie is something to look forward to. Step Brothers is another movie with both of them, which I found a bit better than Talladega Nights: The Ballad Of Ricky Bobby. But this one is also a good comedy, well at least for people like me that have no problem with mocking Southern hillbillies. Not sure if the true Rednecks will have the same sense of humour or even understand that kind of humour. In this movie it's all about the clichés of that certain part of America. So yes you could call the characters pretty dumb but that's what made it funny. Making fun of people with a lower IQ in this case is just funny, maybe wrong to others, but funny to me. Who in his right mind would pay hundreds of dollars to watch cars driving in circles the entire day? You need some 'special' people for that. Personally I hate that sport, if you can call that a sport, but watching making fun of them is just priceless. Add to that that I have a soft spot for Will Ferrell whose movies I always find funny and you get a good movie night.
