Luca Guadagnino’s Queer is now showing on Mubi in many countries.Queer.Anyone visiting William S. Burroughs in Paris while he edited his third novel would have found a scene closer to a bustling film-production office than a lonely writer’s retreat, with a storyboard on the wall and several collaborators beetling away. Burroughs composed Naked Lunch as a series of loosely related, nonchronological “routines”; the story was found in the edit as he rearranged these pieces into their final order. He had the help of friends such as Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, and the painter and poet Brion Gysin, who later recalled, “The raw material of Naked Lunch overwhelmed us. [...] Burroughs was more intent on Scotch-taping his photos together into one great continuum on the wall where scenes faded and slipped into one another than occupied with editing the manuscript.”1Gysin—having accidentally discovered what he and...

Robert Pattinson and Zendaya are, arguably, two of the biggest stars on the planet right now. The former is DC's Batman, Bong Joon Ho's Mickey 17 (and all the other Mickeys too), and Edward frickin' Cullen for crying out loud; the latter is the McU's own Mj, Luca Guadagnino's Challengers muse, and soon to be seen alongside R-Pattz in Christopher Nolan's currently shooting latest epic The Odyssey. And, if Deadline's sources are accurate, it looks like the in-demand duo may be shooting another blockbuster epic for a beloved auteur together before the year is through. Namely, Denis Villeneuve's Dune 3 — aka Dune: Messiah.
According to Deadline's gossip strand 'The Dish', Villeneuve and Legendary are eyeing Pattinson to play Messiah's shapeshifting antagonist Scytale, a transhuman Face Dancer whose ability to perfectly mimic the likeness and personality of others has wide-reaching ramifications not only for Lisan al Gaib Paul Atreides,...

Cinematographer Darius Khondji has confirmed that Ari Aster’s upcoming film Eddington is scheduled to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. Khondji made the comment during an appearance at the Doha Film Institute’s Qumra event over the weekend, where he spoke about his recent and upcoming work.
The French-Iranian cinematographer, a two-time Oscar nominee, said he will be returning to New York to complete color work on Eddington with longtime collaborator Yvan Lucas. “I’m going back to New York to do the color for Eddington that’s going to Cannes, I hear,” Khondji told Deadline. “Ari showed me the film. The film, financed and produced by A24, stars Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, and Emma Stone. Described as a dark comedy Western thriller, Eddington follows a small-town sheriff in New Mexico navigating a power struggle with a corrupt mayor during a pandemic.

The talk of the week at CinemaCon may have been Sony’s bombshell announcement about its four planned movies about The Beatles. Paul Mescal, Joseph Quinn, Barry Keoghan, and Harris Dickinson are your Fab Four. And how these movies will look, the order they’re meant to be watched in, and most notably, Sony’s ambitious plan to release all four films in the same month, opens up a world of questions.
But there was one other thing that raised an eyebrow: the date — April 2028.
The teasing of movies three years down the road was the longest any studio asked exhibitors to wait to get excited for their product (the movies should be worth it), but they were hardly the only studio playing the long game at this year’s CinemaCon. A number of studios’ heavily touted films opening in 2026 or being announced for 2027 while only showing a smattering of...

Amazon MGM Studios' Wednesday night presentation at CinemaCon 2025 was filled with plenty of new updates for upcoming films. Luca Guadagnino took the stage to talk about his newest upcoming thriller, After the Hunt, starring Ayo Edebiri and Andrew Garfield, and there was also a new look at the live-action Masters of the Universe film, among a myriad of other projects. One such project is the techno-thriller film Mercy, starring Chris Pratt, with a January 2026 release date. Mercy boasts an unconventional but intriguing premise, and to sell the film to attendees further, Chris Pratt recreated a part of the film on stage at CinemaCon by strapping himself onto a chair.
Timur Bekmambetov directed Mercy from a script written by Marco van Belle, and it tells the story of a detective (Pratt) who is accused of killing his wife. Taking place in the future where capital crime runs rampant, the justice system works very differently,...

The annual trade show hosted by Cinema United, CinemaCon is where the nation’s theater owners spend a week listening to sales pitches from Hollywood’s most important people: studio executives, Oscar-winning filmmakers, and Tom Cruise. Here are the standout moments, trailer, and highs and lows from CineamaCon 2025.

CinemaCon closed with a flourish on Thursday night, with a first look at Avatar: Fire and Ash, James Cameron’s forthcoming blockbuster. In some ways, the preview — with its exceptional visuals and pacing typical of an Avatar film — felt like a Brigadoon for the nation’s theater owners and its studio partners. This year’s CinemaCon was marked by notable unease for the motion picture industry, with sagging box office totals sparking debate about theatrical windows and the future of several studio executives uncertain. Luca Guadagnino may well be taking on the yuppie serial killer of our nightmares in his next project, American Psycho, but don't expect him to give too much away about what to expect. The Challengers and Call Me By Your Name director confirmed to Collider’s Steve Weintraub at CinemaCon — while promoting After The Hunt — that his next project is indeed a new take on American Psycho, adapted from Bret Easton Ellis’ infamous 1991 novel, but he wasn't up for divulging much more. Guadagnino kept it vague, but that’s par for the course when you’re dealing with a character as enigmatic — and dangerous — as Patrick Bateman.
It was confirmed late last year that Guadagnino had cast Austin Butler, the Oscar nominee, in the lead role as the demented Bateman, but that doesn't mean we got any juicy nuggets from the acclaimed auteur, who did admit that the script by...

Fox had the honors of hoisting a selfie stick to capture the talent that had appeared on the Colosseum stage inside Caesars Palace in Las Vegas during the two-hour show to cap a packed convention schedule Wednesday night just before 10 p.m. It was a rare group gathering on the big stage at CinemaCon where stars usually come out in clusters to promote their respective films.

Meanwhile, Verity is Michael Showalter’s project, starring Anne Hathaway, Josh Hartnett, and Dakota Johnson. Verity is based on It Ends With Us author Colleen Hoover’s novel, published in 2018. One of the year's most-anticipated Oscar contenders has gotten its first look at CinemaCon.
On Wednesday, Amazon MGM Studios debuted the first trailer for Luca Guadagnino’s After the Hunt, which is expected to be one of the studio’s top awards contenders this year.
Written by Nora Garrett and directed by Guadagnino, After the Hunt focuses on the fallout at a small college after a student (The Bear Emmy Award winner Ayo Edebiri) accuses one of the school’s beloved professors (Oscar nominee Andrew Garfield) of sexual misconduct. Alma (Oscar winner Julia Roberts), a professor connected to both the accuser and the accused, is caught in the middle of the allegations.
In the trailer, Garfield’s character, Henrik, denies the allegations made by Maggie, the student played by Edebiri. However, his friendship with Alma threatens her place on the campus, mainly as the students begin to criticize Alma for...

The Travis Knight-directed take on Masters of the Universe showed off a behind the scenes reel at CinemaCon this evening, and let’s just say, it’s no where near as campy and cheesy as the 1980s movie with Dolph Lundgren. After Red One, this is clearly a big tentpole for Amazon MGM Studios with a big summer date of June 5, 2026.
The pic stars Nicholas Galitzine as wavy blonde He-Man, Camila Mendes as Teela, Alison Brie, James Purefoy, Morena Baccarin, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson and Charlotte Riley star, with Jared Leto and Idris Elba.
This is clearly the first tentpole take of the Mattel property with many of the characters, i.e. Teela, Man at Arms, Skeletor, looking exactly as the toys and then some. God knows when the studio will drop the reel, but we catch Jared Leto as Skeletor, Camila Mendes training on jump wires and running sideways,...

Riding high off “Challengers,” Luca Guadagnino is teaming up again with Amazon MGM Studios for “After the Hunt,” a tense drama and thriller starring Julia Roberts, Ayo Edebiri, and Andrew Garfield.
In what was Amazon MGM’s first presentation at CinemaCon, Guadagnino, Edebiri, and Garfield took the stage at the Colosseum to present the trailer for the film ahead of the movie’s release on October 17, 2025.
The film follows Roberts as a college professor who is caught up in a political and personal crisis when one of her star pupils (Edebiri) accuses one of her fellow professors of an act of abuse. Let’s just say it was a pretty tense experience, one that grapples with the culture wars and generational divide in the post-#MeToo era in fascinating ways.
Garfield referred to Guadagino as “a radical artist” and that it was a “dream come true to be directed by a living master,...

Luca Guadagnino, Ayo Edebiri and Andrew Garfield flew into Vegas today to talk up their upcoming thriller After the Hunt from Amazon MGM Studios and Imagine Entertainment. It’s the filmmaker’s fourth movie with Amazon MGM Studios after Suspiria, Bones and All and Challengers. Guadagnino never dwells in one genre, or one subject, and After the Hunt is a throwback to ’90s thrillers like Michael Crichton’s Disclosure with a little Curtis Hanson’s Wonder Boys thrown in.
Set for limited domestic release on October 10, the psychological drama is about a college professor (Roberts) who finds herself at a personal and professional crossroads when a star student (Edebiri) levels an accusation against one of her colleagues (Garfield), and a dark secret from her own past threatens to come into the light.

The highly anticipated prestige drama “After the Hunt” put CinemaCon in its crosshairs on Wednesday, delivering an exhilarating and deeply conflicting first look at the Julia Roberts-Luca Guadagnino film collaboration.
Heavily tipped for awards buzz already, “After the Hunt” played confidently and compelled the audience of global movie theater owners at their annual Las Vegas convention.
Roberts stars as a college professor who “finds herself at a personal and professional crossroads when a star pupil (Ayo Edebiri) levels an accusation against one of her colleagues (Andrew Garfield),” according to a synopsis. As she grapples with an ugly situation, “a dark secret from her own past threatens to come to light.”
In what Guadagnino teased as the best performance of Roberts’ career, the footage played shows the Oscar winner in top form as a shock-blonde, east coast academic elite. Her circle of slightly sycophantic colleagues tout her brilliance, even...

Andrew Garfield and Ayo Edebiri brought the tense first trailer from their new thriller After the Hunt to CinemaCon.
Luca Guadagnino joined his castmembers to tease the Amazon MGM Studios film that also stars Julia Roberts and hits select theaters Oct. 10 before expanding the following week. Hailing from Imagine Entertainment, After the Hunt focuses on a college professor (Roberts) who is forced to confront her own dark past when a prominent student (Edebiri) makes an accusation against one of her colleagues (Garfield).
“I’ve wanted to work with Luca for 15, 20 years and finally we’ve gotten to do it,” Garfield told the crowd. He called Guadagnino’s work “sumptuous, sensual and life-affirming.”
Edebiri added, “This is a movie that’s built to see with other people to talk about and discuss and just feel.”
The trailer shows Edebiri coming to Roberts to confide in her. “He crossed the line,” Edebiri says of Garfield’s character.

Luca Guadagnino, Ayo Edebiri and Andrew Garfield were a big part of Amazon MGM’s debut presentation at CinemaCon, coming out onstage to show off their upcoming psychological thriller “After the Hunt.”
The film stars Julia Roberts as a college professor who finds herself at a personal and professional crossroads when a star student (Ayo Edebiri) levels an accusation against one of her colleagues (Andrew Garfield), and a dark secret from her own past threatens to come into the light.
The sneak peek starts with a dinner party. “Maggie is brilliant,” Roberts’ character says of Ayo Edebiri’s character.
A series of indoor shots ensue as Maggie is accused of plagiarism by Garfield’s character, who reveals his generational bias in the clip.
“I don’t feel comfortable having this conversation anymore,” Maggie says.
The film’s story turns when Edebiri’s character tells Roberts’ character that Garfield’s character assaulted her.

Exclusive: On the heels of signing with Amazon MGM Studios to produce the next iteration of James Bond films alongside David Heyman, Amy Pascal has closed a multiyear first-look film deal for her Pascal Pictures banner.
Under the pact, Amazon MGM Studios will have a first look at narrative features that Pascal and producing partner Rachel O’Connor percolate. The James Bond film will not be part of the overall deal.
Pascal seemed a natural choice along with Heyman to steer the next batch of Bond films. During her dozen years running Sony Pictures’ film and TV divisions, she oversaw Daniel Craig’s first 007 outings Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace and Skyfall, the latter becoming the first Bond film to crack the billion-dollar mark at the global box office. After exiting the exec suites at Sony, Pascal took over the Tom Holland-starrer Spider-Man franchise as producer, along with the Tom Hardy Venom series.

Chloë Sevigny is a chameleon onscreen, and her latest turn in satire “Magic Farm” is no exception. In the film, the actress stars as a Vice News-esque documentarian who leads a film crew traveling to Argentina to expose the effects of pesticides on people. “Magic Farm” is written and directed by Amalia Ulman, with Alex Wolff, Joe Apollonio, Camila del Campo, and Simon Rex co-starring.
The official synopsis reads: “Fake it ‘til you make it. When a misguided American documentary crew in search of their next viral segment ends up in the wrong town in rural Argentina, chaos ensues. As they collaborate with locals to fake a new music trend, unexpected relationships form and an unfolding health crisis becomes apparent.”
The feature had its world premiere at Sundance earlier this year and also played at the 2025 Berlinale. “Magic Farm” will be among the previews for Mubi Fest, too.

The proliferation of online gambling has led to the wagerification of not just sports, but films, television, and politics. Since the sale of the James Bond franchise to Amazon MGM, gambling sites have put up live odds for actors that are likely to get cast as the villain in the new film. The frontrunners seem to be Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz, but Johnny Depp and Jenna Ortega aren’t far behind.
Per Gambling.com, Farrell has become an 11/8 favorite (+138 odds or a perceived 42% probability of landing the role) to become the next antagonist to face off against 007 in Amazon MGM’s first foray into the franchise. The speculation around Farrell comes from his connection to new Bond producer David Heyman, who has previously worked with the actor on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them– where Farell appeared as Percival Graves, who was really the evil magician Grindelwald in disguise.

Those hoping to get a sneak peek at the upcoming Michael Jackson musical biopic Michael at CinemaCon this week were left wanting on Tuesday, as Lionsgate declined to show new footage of the controversial project. However, Michael is still scheduled for release on Oct. 3 despite the no-show.

Luca Guadagnino (Bones and All, Suspiria) will direct a brand new interpretation of the 1991 book American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis for Lionsgate, and the filmmaker has given an interesting update at CinemaCon today, THR reports.
In December, Variety had reported that Austin Butler (Dune: Part Two) was poised to pick up an axe as Patrick Bateman. Guadagnino’s update reveals that’s not quite the case.
To start, the filmmaker called the source material “a book that I deeply love that is something that has influenced me so much.”
The director confirmed that Scott Z. Burns wrote the script, which is said to be a new adaptation of Ellis’s novel and not a remake of the 2000 film. As for casting, he told the CinemaCon crowd that he’s in current “conversation with exciting performers to play the leads.” As in, no one has been set to star just yet.

CinemaCon as an annual event does not have quite the same name recognition of something like San Diego Comic-Con. After all, it’s a convention for regional theater owners from across the country talking about theatrical windows and looking new models of projectors.
And yet, increasingly, the major movie studios treat CinemaCon like it is Comic-Con. Fanboy bloggers are invited, the top trailers and new footage teases are touted, and a parade of A-listers take the stage at the Caesar’s Palace Colosseum with pre-written hype sessions about their upcoming films.
No, not every year at the annual Las Vegas convention is as eventful as the one in which Olivia Wilde was served divorce papers on stage or when we were all convinced by some screaming fans that “The Flash” was going to be huge, but there’s quite a bit we’re curious to see this year on that (very) big screen.

The quest for a pitch-perfect filmography is something that movie fans have seen countless directors strive for. Quentin Tarantino is the most infamous example, as his refusal to make more than 10 films dominated the headlines and enraged audiences. He isn't the only perfectionist of the bunch, however, as many modern directors are notoriously picky and methodical about the projects they choose. One notable member of this slow and savvy club is the great Paul Thomas Anderson, who has only released nine feature films across his 29-year directorial career.
Regardless of his snail's pace output, Anderson consistently delivers immersive, sprawling experiences that please audiences and critics alike. Whether he's making epic dramas, dense romantic comedies, crime films, or scathing pseudo-westerns, his releases never seem to disappoint. The teaser for Anderson's latest Leonardo DiCaprio-led film dropped this past week, and it has already made waves, with many fans saying it looks...
