“Riverdale” and “District 9” star Nat Boltt has lined up a trio of would-be nuns for her directorial debut.

“Holy Days,” a comedy based on the novel by author Dame Joy Cowley, will star Oscar nominee and Emmy, Golden Globe and BAFTA winner Judy Davis (“Husband and Wives”), BAFTA winner Miriam Margolyes (the “Harry Potter” franchise) and two-time Oscar and Golden Globe nominee Jacki Weaver (“Silver Linings Playbook”). Meanwhile, young rising star Elijah Tamati (“Deep Water”) plays a leading role, while Boltt — who directs from her own screenplay — will also star.

Blue Fox Entertainment has acquired worldwide rights — excluding New Zealand and Canada — to the the Ff Films and Lily Pictures feature, and will be launching sales at the upcoming AFM. Principal photography is slated to begin mid-November.

In “Holy Days,” three quirky older nuns hit the road looking for miracles but end up learning to drive like demons instead.

Acorn TV has announced the titles that will be available on the AMC-owned streaming service in September 2024. The Acorn TV September 2024 slate adds to the service’s various acclaimed English and foreign-language dramas, engaging comedies, documentaries, and more.

Since breaking out of the gate with a modern Sci-Fi masterwork in 2009 with District 9, writer/director Neill Blomkamp has seemingly struggled to hit that same initial almighty high. Yet, in spite of some widely different readings, he remains a filmmaker with incredible vision and ambition.

From the social class gap depictions of Elysium, to the AI implications of Chappie, Blomkamp’s work always can be relied upon to ponder weighty and interesting themes within a grand aesthetic. However his latest lockdown shot film is something far more stripped back and lower in budget, but no less intriguing for it. When you give your horror movie the simple and uninspiring title of ‘Demonic’, you better be ready to do something big, something exciting! And if there’s any director that could do that with a horror movie, Neill Blomkamp might be the guy. I know his movies have divided opinion since his brillinat debut feature District 9 but Elysium and Chappie have both been full of originality and creativity so I was hoping he’d bring that into the horror genre.

Director Neill Blomkamp has given us a unique mixture of films, one great, one terrible and one right down the middle. District 9 was a sharp, socially conscious horror flick that achieved "instant classic" status. Elysium was an effective riff on class warfare. And Chappie lacked heart.

So where does Demonic rank among Blomkamp's oeuvre? The generic title would have you believe this is a generic movie, which it is. With his new film “Demonic,” writer-director Neill Blomkamp has done something he’s never done before: He’s made a feature film that’s almost completely pointless.

The man behind “District 9,” “Elysium,” and “Chappie” has never been particularly subtle about his allegories, whether the films are acclaimed or not. So far he’s used sci-fi trappings to explore the evils of apartheid and health care, and to address at least some of the bigger questions about artificial intelligence. They’re usually big swings, the sci-fi films of Neill Blomkamp, so it’s hard to begrudge him for going for a bunt this time.

But “Demonic” isn’t just a low-budget supernatural–sci-fi thriller; it’s also a shallow one, a boring one, a poorly conceived one — and the characters stink too. It’s a horror movie with no ideas and only half a scare. It’s a sci-fi movie...

Neill Blomkamp’s sci-fi work finds its chief pleasures as a cinema of the hyperreal. Aliens, robots, and impossibly cool implements of destruction exist fifteen minutes into the future, covered in the grime and grit and chipped imperfection of used objects, in alternate worlds as beholden to the violence of material inequity as our own. Anderson Cooper (playing himself) reveals speculative history as breaking news coverage. The fantastically imaginary becomes physically palpable. Blomkamp’s chief aesthetic guideposts are visual media’s pinnacles of “you are there” immediacy: cinema verité, video games, documentary. His cinema is vividly externalized, rife with world-building, sprawling in scope, and rooted in a firm sense of the material.

Implication that Demonic may not play to his strengths comes with the opening scene. In an economically cut series of crawling, low-angle handheld shots, uncannily perfect symmetrical compositions, and other dream sequence clichés, a woman (Carly Pope) wanders...

IFC Midnight has released the official trailer for Demonic, the new twisted sci-fi horror movie from director Neill Blomkamp. Set for a release in theaters and on VOD on Aug. 20, the movie was shot in Canada during the pandemic and held its world premiere at Berlinale in March. After following up District 9 will the large-scale sci-fi tentpole Elysium, Neill Blomkamp slightly lessened his scope with Chappie. Now, for his next feature, he made the best of the restrictions of the pandemic to film a down-and-dirty horror film in British Columbia, Canada. Ahead of an August 20 release from IFC Midnight, the first trailer for Demonic has now arrived.

Starring Carly Pope, Chris William Martin, and Nathalie Boltt, the film follows a young woman who unleashes terrifying demons when supernatural forces at the root of a decades-old rift between mother and daughter are revealed. The first trailer reveals the director is delighting in his grislier side for what are hopefully some effective scares.

Neill Blomkamp is back but the director who is best known for his sci-fi movies is dipping his toes into horror with his new feature Demonic.

Written and directed by Blomkamp, the film stars Carly Pope, Nathalie Boltt, Chris William Martin, Michael J Rogers, and Andrea Agur but beyond that, there's very little information on the film beyond the official synopsis which reads:

A young woman unleashes terrifying demons when supernatural forces at the root of a decades-old rift between mother and daughter are ruthlessly revealed.

While there aren't many more details on the movie, a pair of new images and a behind-the-scenes video were released today.

Demonic will open in theatres on August 20 and be available on VOD and Digital on August 2...

It’s not the full-blown crossover some fans have been waiting for, but Riverdale does receive a pair of shout-outs (and then some) in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina‘s just-released Part 3.

Riverdale Season 3 will include a flashback episode called "The Midnight Club", which will be based loosely on the John Hughes classic The Breakfast Club. To take this episode to a whole new level of radness, Anthony Michael Hall has been cast in the episode!

In the episode, the audience will learn some dark secrets from when the adult characters were high school students. Anthony Michael Hall will take on the role Principal Featherhead, the longstanding principal at Riverdale High who ends up getting caught up in the game the teenagers are playing in an unexpected way.

There's also some fun promo art that was released showing Hall in the role of Principal Featherhead as well as high school yearbook photos of the adult actors as teenagers. 

As far as the cast goes for the younger version of the adult characters, Lili Reinhart is playing a younger version of Alice Cooper...

If you ask Nathalie Boltt, her Riverdale character recovered from her season two injuries way too quickly. Penelope Blossom was hospitalized back at the beginning of the season after her murderer husband hung himself and her angry daughter Cheryl burned the house down, and while Pen was back up on her feet and starting her own business as a prostitute while emotionally torturing her daughter in no time, Boltt wishes the healing process had been longer and a little less successful. Well, the Riverdale High musical went about as well as could be expected, and by that we mean that someone got murdered.

For the special episode airing Wednesday, the students of “Riverdale” staged a production of “Carrie: The Musical,” a Broadway musical adapted from Stephen King’s 1974 novel. Kevin Keller (Casey Cott) directed the play with Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) in the title role and Alice Cooper (Madchen Amick) as her religious mother Margaret. Or at least, that was the plan until Kevin continued to receive cut-and-paste death threats from the Black Hood (but didn’t he die?) demanding that Cheryl be replaced as the lead or else a very heavy sandbag would take her out of commission.

Riverdale ended its first season with a bang on Thursday! Just as the town was unraveling the truth behind Jason Blossom’s death, another shocking blow came in the finale’s last moments, when Fred Andrews (Luke Perry) was gunned down during a robbery at Pop's Chock'lit Shoppe as son Archie (Kj Apa) helplessly tried to intervene.

Et hopped on the phone with Riverdale executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who stayed mum on Fred’s fate, but dished on how the shocking events of the finale -- which included intense family drama for Betty (Lili Reinhart), Veronica (Camila Mendes) and Jughead (Cole Sprouse), as well -- will affect each character as Riverdale looks ahead to its second season.

South African director Neill Blomkamp made his stellar directorial debut with 2009's District 9, which was followed up by Elysium and this weekend's Chappie. Ever since District 9 came out, fans have been pining for the sequel District 10, but there is very little we know about the project except for the title. Of course, now the director is working on bringing Alien 5 to the big screen, with Sigourney Weaver reprising her role as Ripley and original Alien director Ridley Scott producing, so it may be quite some time before we ever see District 10 on the big screen. During an interview with IGN, Neill Blomkamp revealed that he does have an idea for District 10.

"I have an idea for District 10, which is really cool. The problem is I feel like Chappie is the end of three films that have a similar stylistic approach to them. Chappie is the odd one out...

Director Neill Blomkamp has good news and bad news for fans of District 9 who are clamoring for the sequel District 10. The good news is that he and co-writer Terri Tatchell have an 18-page treatment written out for the follow-up, but the bad news is the filmmaker isn't quite ready to commit to it yet.

The filmmaker wouldn't go into any specific details regarding the story, except that his idea is, "really f---ing cool."

He also spoke briefly about Chappie, which already has the director's District 9 and Elysium star Sharlto Copley confirmed to star, and Dev Patel in talks to join the cast. Here's what he had to say about the story, which centers on a sentient android robot.
